Dune is the creation of Frank Herbert. Many consider it to be the ultimate science fiction novel. The original books, by Frank Herbert, show how a barren planet called Dune becomes the center of power in the galaxy and chronicle the downfall of one Imperium and the establishment of another. After Frank Herbert's death, his son Brian Herbert and award-winning author Kevin J. Anderson pick up the saga with the Prelude to Dune trilogy that profiles the three most powerful families in the galaxy. They are in the process of creating the Legends of Dune trilogy that step back another 10,000 years to cover the wars with the thinking machines and the creation of an Empire.
