Deep draft class for Reds in 2005
The Reds had many early choices in last year's draft, and have been very happy with their draft.  Below, you will get a short look at a report on how each of the young Reds Farmhands are progressing.
Midseason Mustang Report
Acquired: Tigers #2 RTBNL, 2005 draft.  Age 21. 
2005: 4-3, 3.02 ERA, 77 K in 86 innings, only 14 walks allowed.  .222 batting average against.  Pitching well at the top of the A ball rotation.

Ron Briggs
Acquired: Pirates #2 RTBNL, 2005 draft.  Age 22.
2005: 7-0, 2.31 ERA in 11 starts, walking only 15 in 74 innings, striking out 56.
As predicted earlier, Coles has already been promoted to AA Chattanooga, where he has gone 1-1 with a respectable 4.10 ERA.

Don Coles
Acquired: Tigers #1 RTBNL, #7 overall, 2005 draft.  Age 18.
2005:  6-4 with a 3.11 ERA in 11 starts, striking out almost a batter per inning.
90 innings leads this staff, which is impressive for an 18 year old.

Acquired: Trade with St. Louis, 2004. Age 20.Twin brother of Mustangs RHP Charlie.
2005: 4-3, 3.39 ERA
Competition with Brother John for best Garcia pitcher is close.
Acquired: Trade with Florida, 2004.  Age 20.  Twin Brother of Mustangs RHP John.
2005: 4-3, 3.06 ERA  .227 avg. against.
Top of the rotation pitcher, Garcia has been very consistent.

Charlie Garcia
Acquired: Trade with Philadelphia, 2004.  Age 19.
2005: 4-5, 4.13 ERA. 
19 year old is developing nicely, splitting time between the rotation and bullpen.

Charlie Sanders
Acquired: Athletics #3 RTBNL, 2005.  Age 21.
2005: 0-0, 2.20 ERA, 22 saves in 24 appearances.
Sturtze has been absolutely dominant in the closer's role, and he may be soon getting promoted.

Bob Sturtze
Acquired: Reds #4 RTBNL, 2005.  Age 19.
2005: 0-3, 5.15 ERA. 
Misleading numbers considering Wolf has surrendered less than a hit per inning while striking out more than a hitter per inning, and with good control.  Longs for the rotation.

Mike Wolf
Acquired: Reds #1 RTBNL, #1 overall pick 2005.  Age 18.  Son of Reds GM Bill Akin.
2005: .293 avg, 3 HR, 28 RBI, .378 on base %.
While putting up a bit disappointing numbers this year, keep in mind that Akin is only 18 and may break out any time.  Good progress in getting on base.

Dalton Akin
Acquired: Reds sandwich pick, 31st overall, 2005.  Age 18.
2005: .369 avg, 1 HR, 29 RBI, .419 OB%
Goldsmith is near the league lead in batting average.  Not bad for an 18 year old.

George Goldsmith
Acquired: Reds #2 RTBNL, 2005.  Age 18.
2005: .272, 8 HR 35RBI, 14 steals.
Consistent production from Berry, who is another of the Reds prize crop of 18 year olds.

Hal Berry
Acquired:  Trade with Pittsburgh, 2004.  Age 19.
2005:  .373 avg, 15 HR 51 RBI in 64 games
