The Monolith was never supposed to exist....or was it? Under the dusts of time, always hidden, yet still present. This was a symbol. This was the
unreachable, the unknowable. Mankind's endless quest for answers, and all the possible outcomes. The search for the beyond. Did the Monolith stand in defiance, or as a testament?

The Monolith symbolizes, if anything, the questions, and all possible answers. It symbolizes how humanity has reached its place, and what lies afterwards. Through these means, mankind has created itself, and destroyed itself. The underlying chaos is undeniable, even in the most organized situation. To finally reach the Monolith, it is to reach a new level of existence. to surpass life as one knows it, and to transcend this human shell. To transcend the human symbols. To hold the intangible. The final journey could only be the beginning. The Monolith is a doorway......

Monoith: the band

Monolith has a long and storied past for a band. It started in the mind of Shep in 2001. He had an original lineup in 2002 but quickly found out they didn't have the same aspirations as him and so they split up. There was a time when Monolith was only Shep, in which Shep even recorded a 4 song demo in which he played guitars, bass, and did vocals for it, while a friend of his played drums on it. Though due to the shoddiness of those recordings they never saw the light of day and there's only 2 copies of the demo in existence. After that disaster, Shep got with his friend Jake, who decided he was going to start playing drums. With no one else around willing to start a band Shep agreed to have Jake play drums and they set out to find a guitar player. As luck would have it, Shep met Damon at a show in 2004, with some quick thinking Jake propsitioned Damon with the opportunity to be a part of something new, something heavy. Damon agreed and Monolith lived once again.
With the addition of Isaac, a guy Shep had known for years, on vocals it completed the lineup for a time. So they began writing songs and playing shows. Sadly in March of 2005, Jake decided he was leaving. This struck the band to the core and left them scrambling to find a new drummer. The only person who answered the call was Chris Chapman, the most hated man in the local scene. For a time he completed the lineup and they played a few shows. Though after a few shows Chris decided he didnt' want to be a part of Monolith and left.
The band decided not to give up, and continued to trudge on because they believe deeply in what they do. After a few months of nothing Shep got a message saying that a guy really wanted to play with them. The guys name was Mike Richards, formerly of Only Flesh out of Columbus Ohio. Mike brings 13 years behind a kit experience.
Recently, we aquired a second guitar player, named Stanley Maxwell. Damon had known him for a while, and just recently got back into contact with him, and asked him to try out. Stan ennjoyed what he heard, and decided to see what he could add to Monolith. The band is currently writing.learning material, and the new line-up is scheduled to play a show April 28.
