Tradition and the Individual Talents totally ripped us off. They suck at copying our music too.

this Canadian pop group plays its twinkly guitar a little out of tune, and doesn’t sing so much as lecture: “I said art for art's sake, not art for fashion's sake!” This is a sentiment one cannot stress enough. Thanks, Tradition and the Individual Talents; I hear ya.

They were on stage when punk gave birth to itself; they were always ridiculously smart, always interested in espionage, and no less so here -- with a furious negation ending an LP of distinct and pointed tunes.

This one goes down easy; I wish it didn't. A perfect song's a perfect song's merely a perfect song, see, and I've only ever respected this band's repertoire for the pockmarks and pocket protection. My ass is backwards? Let me ask you this: Would "The Song Remains Inane" be so charming if it didn't drag a bit? Probably not-- in fact, it'd probably sound like a Lenny Kravitz song, or worse, Franz Ferdinand.

Years from now people will recognize "Eff the New Indie Rock"-- its ooh-oohs, its post-punk groove, and TL/Rx breakdown-- as some next-level radio pop rock shit that's certifiably catchier than the countless riffs it cribs. Trash your favorite records; if you listen hard enough, this song plays like a jukebox. But save the breezy lyrics and hokey preamble, TatIT have less to do with this song than the natural progression of things. That's no dig-- these kids make fine mouthpieces for them muses, on call like heart doctors at the Red Bull factory-- but I wish they weren't so damn professional about it. Fun shouldn't be so efficient.
