My dog and I backpacking along the Red Deer river south of the Penhold bridge back in 1997. Yes it is my dog even though the shadows make him look like a beaver. |
I built this web page to share my love of the outdoors with whoever is interested. I'm hoping that others out there will enjoy my stories and the photos of my very 'average' adventures in the great outdoors.
I'm hoping you will look past me in the above picture and ponder the beautiful scenery behind me. This incredible natural area is less than twenty minutes from my house! I feel so lucky to have it so close I can't help but tell the rest of the world. I guess I'm lucky to have the Red Deer river so close to my backyard and I wonder why I'm writing this when I could be out there watching the river ice break-up? Hmmm!
It's only fair to warn you, my adventures are not extreme, nor do they take place in exotic locales, or even cost lots of money. You will never see them on OLN or the Discovery Network or featured in National Geographic. But for me they are lots of fun and I look forward to sharing with you, our little chunk of paradise known as Alberta!
I lean toward the 'primitive' approach to camping technology, but camping is camping, just as long as you get 'out there'! Car camping with the basics is one of the last vestiges of a cheap and affordable family vacation. It gets everyone out in the fresh air and the kids away from TV and video games! I hope that if people see how beautiful nature is they'll do something about preserving it.
When surfing the web I'm always interested in hearing how other folks do things. I learn lots, I get a chuckle now and then, I get inspired to try something new or otherwise incorporate it into how I do things. I'm hoping that others can take something from the things I publish on this site.
The vanity part of this web site is that I've always wanted to write stories! Ever since I was a kid. I can also combine it with an old and often neglected hobby of mine: photography. At least I'll have some fun! Even if I don't get outside as much any more! Hey wait a minute, there's something wrong with that statement . . . maybe this page will give me good reasons to go out and get more outdoor stories! Yes . . .I like that better!

My dog and me beside our cabin out in the foothills. I spent a week there in January 2002. And yes, my dog does have a name. |
