"If Lucy Fell"
i have too many favorites to pick a paltry five
movies. so i'll give you one from each major film
category. comedy, romantic comedy, drama, action, and
what's the other one? porno? how about sci-fi.
clerks (1994) - i enjoy all of kevin smith's movies,
but this one is pure. no hype, no frills, no gimmicks,
no jay and silent bob action figures. just indie
greatness from beginning to end. what a no-budget
comedy should be. the soundtrack is great, too.
if lucy fell (1996) - okay, so this could be classified
a "romantic comedy," but that genre was really fucked
up by movies like "kissing a fool" and anything with
jennifer love hewitt or freddy prinze, jr.
writer/director/actor eric schaeffer is brilliant in
this movie. sarah jessica parker, elle macpherson, ben
stiller, et al.
glengarry glen ross (1992) - i am convinced that there
has never been another movie i've seen where each
actor was so perfectly cast. this film is about the
lives of several real estate salesmen, but that
doesn't sound too interesting does it? it is, trust
me. alec baldwin doesn't get any better than this.
also stars al pacino, ed harris, kevin spacey, jack
lemmon, alan arkin.
pulp fiction (1994) - quentin tarantino at his nasty
best. amazing cast. interesting, action-packed,
hilarious, shocking- all combined, all the way
through. i never thought john travolta would make a
comeback, but this was the vehicle and he played it
right. the music and cinematography were perfect.
better film than reservoir dogs, in my humble opinion.
the empire strikes back (1980) - how could i leave out
a george lucas classic like this? the darkest of the
trilogy and by far the most entertaining. luke gets
over being a whiny bastard (aaawwwww....uncle owen!
-star wars) and gets down to kicking some empire ass.
there is nothing "ewokified" about this movie. i will
watch it over and over, just not with catherine, who
knows every single line by heart.
