| "We don't read and write poetry because its cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is full of passion. Medicine, law, business, engineering: these are noble pursuits necessary to sustain life but poetry, beauty, romance, love. These are what we stay alive for." -Professor Keating "Dead Poets Society" |

| Dan's Top 5 Movies Sooo many movies to choose from. I would rather just make a list of every movie I own, but since I put the limit to 5.... Magnolia (1994) - Talk about a family tree... ok, so they are not all related, but if you paid attention you know what im talking about. I saw this movie 3 times in the movie theatre and bought it as soon as it was out on video. This movie really talked to me. It is about doing the right thing in life, sitting back and taking a deep hard look at yourself. All of your faults, all of your failures. Without giving anything away... ribbit... The smile at the very end of the movie is amazing! Good Will Hunting (1996) - This is one of those movies that I didnt fall in love with it until the second time I saw it. Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck are all superb in this one. The park bench is very moving. Apocalypse Now (1979) - Nominated for 8 Academy Awards, won best sound & best cinematography. Trust me when I say this movie is a work of art. I remember watching it when I was little, and thinking, "This show is messed up!" After being in the Army & growing up I understood it a lot better. Memorable scene: "Charlie Dont Surf!" Dazed & Confused (1993) - "Alright, Alright, Alright!" This movie just makes me feel good (even without endulging in what is going on during most of the movie). Taking place during the summer of 76. A group of newly clad freshmen try to stay away from paddle wielding seniors. Some make it, some don't. Fast cars, Bell bottoms, bowling balls, beer busts & a great soundtrack. If you havent seen this one you are missing something! American Beauty (1999) - I almost didn't include this one. Not that it isn't one of my top five, but because I am sure just about everyone is going to include it in theirs. I would be telling a great lie if I didn't include this masterpiece. The filming was just spectacular in this movie. I loved the scenes where everything was basically all black and white with only the roses appearing red. After seeing this film over 10 times, my eyes still bleed tears in the last few scenes. Sam Mendes created a movie that is endless. * * * * * Honorable Mentions (Some of these have probably moved up into my top 5, but I am just going to leave them here) True Romance, Almost Famous, Dead Poets Society, Forest Gump, Pulp Fiction, Erin Brockovich, Hackers, Platoon, Casino, Swingers, The Matrix. Lord of the Rings & Oceans 11. |
