Telepathy

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

SG-1 were walking back towards the gate in silence. Tealc never spoke, so for him it was normal, and he wasnt in the tele-trio as Jack had named the now telepathic members of SG-1. Theyd arrived on P3X 909 in the middle of the Mind Festival as the natives had called it. SG-1 had been invited to stay, the inhabitants were a friendly people and it was party time, so theyd accepted. The Mind Festival as it turned out, was where people were granted telepathy and it was a great honour to have this given to you. It was given only to a group of people who were very close friends and did good for their people. People who were given telepathy were able to talk to each other in their heads, and read the thoughts of others. If the situation called for it, they were able to send telepathic messages to non-telepathic people. So all of SG-1 had been offered telepathy, after telling the local minister about what they did, and how close they had come. At the time, they hadnt know about the meaning of the Mind Festival. And when theyd been given the reader, theyd had no idea what it was, it looked like a simple metal disk.

Now they knew, and had mixed feelings. Tealc had been unable to accept the gift of telepathy, his larval goauld had prevented it.

How do you think Tealc is holding up colonel? they spoke in their minds.

Fine, I can tell hes feeling a little -

Left out?

Yes - and Carter, when we talk in our heads, call me Jack

Then you call me Sam

Sure

How will Hammond take it? Daniel thought

Dunno. Well, heres the gate. Sam, dial home.

Yes sir

Tealc knew what was going on, and he did feel a little left out, though he knew it was not his fault or theirs. NAfto had said it was permanent. He knew that the others would not tell General Hammond until the debriefing, and so he decided he would not either. He also knew, that if they were not careful, this could seriously damage SG-1.

Hes right you know. Sam stated. All of a sudden Daniel started to wander off, to investigate some rock hed seen.

Danny! Get back over here, we dont have time! Jack shouted, both in his head and out loud. That made Daniel turn.

Sorry. He mumbled, though Sam and Jack knew he wasnt, really. At that the gate settled down and Sam put in the Iris code. They stepped through and into the SGC gate room. Home.

Not a word Hammond stepped up to them, looking glad that his team were exactly as they were when they left.

How did the mission go?

Fine Jack said out loud though in his head he continued were telepathic; we can read your every thought, hey! Lets have a contest, think of a number, any number. If I guess right, you give me $20.

Sam couldnt help but smile at this; Daniel even laughed a short, almost silent laugh. Hammond looked confused, but this was SG-1, his best team, what right did he have to interfere with their lives - even if they did confuse the hell out of him. Jacks next comment was really strange.

Gee thanks sir, well keep that in mind. Jack knew Tealc was confused, so he concentrated and told Tealc what had been going on in their head-chat. They knew that he was grateful for this. By now, Hammond had gotten over his confusion.

Get checked out by the Doctor, have a shower. Debriefing at 1600 hours. Dismissed.

So they did. Up until know, theyd agreed that there was to be no personal thoughts if it could be helped, and for the most part they had succeeded.

Ok, time to lift the ban. Feel free to feel.

They walked the rest of the way to the infirmary. Sam was glad about this, her feelings had been hard enough to contain, without telepathy, but with it, it had been almost impossible. Though, this meant Jack would find out she loved him...oh shit. Sam stopped dead, and Jack looked back, the love clear in his eyes, but also shocked, wondering how she could ever feel this way for him, and old soldier. Sam had a very shocked and scared expression on her face. She started to blush, then continued to walk with her head down.

Sam? You mean that? at this, Sam just looked even more embarrassed.

Yeah. But just try to pretend that I didnt say that cause... her voice was uncertain, she was scared that this would ruin them, that she would lose her best friend. The man she loved. She just went even redder at this, knowing that now Jack knew that also. This telepathy thing, was annoying, she couldnt think without two others knowing what she was thinking.

I love you too, Sam

You dont feel the same. You love me? Oh Im so happy!!! Sam now had her head up, her blue eyes were shining, and she had the biggest smile on her face. Though she was uncertain if she should believe that, and calmed down again, but still looked happy.

I can feel it. Here, Im letting down my barriers to you this was hard for Jack, hed never done anything like this before, never let any one see him fully, and this was a big risk. But he wasnt scared, because he knew that no matter what, he would still have Sam as a friend. Sam felt this, felt his apprehension, and his confidence in her. Jack had a serious expression on his face, and with telepathy, that went so much further. So she made a decision.

Me too and they did, a little scared at first. They could feel the love the other had for them. They both looked so happy, eyes shining, Daniel grinned, knowing what had happened, but had kept his mental distance. Tealc suspected he knew, but Janet had know idea. Her friends had just walked in, Sam and Jack looked extremely happy, in bliss. Their eyes said it all, she had no idea why. Maybe they finally told each other. So, she gave them the usual. Whatever was going on, sooner or later, she would find out. She just hoped it was sooner.

Theyd all had their check up, and Sam was waiting for the boys to get out of the showers, so she could have one. Jack and Daniel could tell she was waiting, wishing that the women on base had their own shower rooms.

Dont worry Sam, were out. And not a moment later, they stepped out.

Told you. Its all yours

Sam went inside the showers and had a quick shower, got out, dried and dressed, when she came out, the guys were there.

Okay, lets go It took effort to speak out loud. Speaking in their heads was as easy as talking had been, and more, like thoughts, which in a way they were. Theyd thought that talking out loud would still be easy, but it had not. NAfto had said this was common, they simply had to learn to speak again, not in the sense of words, but more the fact of saying them out loud. He had said they should try and speak, as often as they could, and soon it would be almost, if not as easy as speaking in their mind. Though sometimes, they might say something both in their head and out loud at the same time, commonly with non-telepaths, but sometimes with telepaths simply for effect. As one they walked off to the debriefing, hoping they wouldnt have to use a particular ability the residence of P3X 909 called giving. Giving, in that term, meant giving a suggestion into ones mind. It could calm a person, or annoy them. If all of the people of the same reader group consented, they could make a person do something against his or her will, even if the mind was very strong, and didnt belong to that of a humans. Though they would only calm Hammond if he got to worked up. Just then they entered and tuck their seats.

Report.

Yippee, another fun mission, the one called The Spanish Inquisition. You know Sam, we should get a TV crew in here, and it would be soooo interesting.

Too true

Ditto all of this passed in no time, and Jack concentrated on talking out loud. This would be hard, for all of them, but it would be their first step to talking out loud normally once more.

They reached the end of their report. It was time to tell him of their newfound telepathy. Hammond wasnt going to jump over the moon about this, they could tell.

Prepare to calm

We have something to tell you sir Carter said, deciding to take point. Jack was glad.

What is it Major?

Its about the reading. The gift, its telepathy

I see. though he didnt, not really.

No, you dont. You see, this didnt work on Tealc because of Junior, but it worked on the rest of us. Hammond was starting to get it.

So, what shed trying to say is, Me, Danny and Sa- Carter are now telepathic.

What does this mean? The General asked.

Well, the obvious and more. We can read others thoughts; like it was it was something you do every day. We can talk to each other other like its the most common thing in the galaxy...

Yes, every one talks

...Not the way I mean. When I say talking, I mean in our heads. Its hard to talk out loud, it needs concentration, though in time NAfto says talking out loud will almost be as natural as talking in our heads. We can also give. That means we can plant suggestions in others heads, make them calmer, or angrier. We can, if me, Sam and Jack all agree, force a person to do something, even if they dont want to, and theyre not human. Daniel said, that had taken a lot out of him, and it had only helped a little. What would it take to be able to talk out loud like they used to?

Be patient Danny Jack reassured him. Hammond doesnt believe us. Well, lets carry out that little bet I came up with earlier

Oh yeah, hell love that one.

Ill just make it harder for him.

I know Sir, you dont believe us. Well, heres some proof. If I win, you give me, I dont know, $40. However, if you win, I give you $60. Now, think of something, anything in the world, something I could never know you were thinking about. Ill tell you what it is

They heard Hammond agree and think of something

OK

Well, youre thinking of how when you got your first car, your best friend borrowed it, and crashed it when it was only 2 weeks old. You stayed friends, but it was ages before you forgave him

 How did you...?

As I said, were telepathic. They could tell Hammond was believing them now. He was starting to panic, so they helped calm him, they knew that he would be able to that himself, but they wanted to help. What they hadnt told him was that they were able to use their telepathy to heal. That would help in the field, or one of them was badly hurt. Even if one of them was dead, the other two working together would be able to revive him/her. This would definitely help with all the trouble that found them.

Confinement. It came at them as strong as a tornado. He was going to put them into confinement, they wanted to alter his decision, but if it would help, they wouldnt. But he changed his mind anyway, he knew that they wouldnt cause any harm, and even if they did do anything, a few walls wouldnt stop them.

OK, but I want the Doctor to make sure that you dont have anything dangerous in you, and for you to stay on base until youre more accustomed talking out loud than you are now. Also, try to work on blocking others minds out, allow them some privacy.

Yes sir, weve been working on that, Jack said

Even when we do block out peoples thoughts, we cant block out their emotions. We can tell if a person is lying or not, which is handy. But yeah, fine, and thanks. She sent over her gratitude. They could tell that he was still a bit uncomfortable about this, but knew he couldnt change it. They also knew that because people werent used to having telepaths around, their thoughts would be broadcast at full volume. Though no doubt the grapevine would spread news of this fast and this would change gradually. But they would try to block out their thoughts as best they could.

So Sam, you want me to lock you out?

No, and dont either of you lock me out

Dont want to honey

Wouldnt dare. Youre both open to read my thoughts

Well, if we didnt read the others thoughts, we wouldnt be able to communicate, so thats pointless really Jack commented.

 Good point.

Oh no Daniel thought, and they all knew why, Maybourne. In fact, this was so worrying, that they said it out loud as well. Hammond and Tealc looked at each other, knowing that theyd just been talking, to anyone else, they would just look like they were sitting there. But a look of dread had come over them and then...

Maybourne theyd all said at the same time. To be honest, Hammond and Tealc hadnt thought of this. It was going to be a big problem. He would come, they knew, it was only a matter of when.

Dismissed. Hammond announced, a bit disturbed, this could brake up the best defence the Earth had. SG-1 had saved Earth more times than he cared to think about. And if Maybourne got a hold of them, that hope would be gone. Until they were back, the Earth, if attacked, would be destroyed. Not a nice thought. He watched as SG-1 walked out of the room. He had a feeling in his gut that some hard times were coming, and he knew that he needed to keep Maybourne away from the SGC.

It had been a month since SG-1 had returned, and Jack, Sam and Daniel had become the Tele-trio. They had finally been allowed to go out of base, though they hadnt. Sam had decided that she wanted to have a walk around Colorado Springs, and she wasnt back yet. Across the room, Cpt. Alishana Copero, known to her friends as Isha, was watching the two. By now, news of their telepathy had become common knowledge. Theyd all been reassured that they wouldnt prey into their minds, and made sure that they could only read others emotions, unless others gave them permission to do otherwise. She was looking at Jack and Daniel and noticed that a look of pain came over their faces, and it grew.

Sam, whats wrong? Jack shouted

A man! Hes, hes...

O god Daniel whispered

Trying to rape you

By now every one had noticed this, and since nothing that could cause this was happening in this room, they knew it was Major Carter.

Oh God!!! No!!!!!!!!! Sam shouted, as she knew that there was nothing she could do to stop this man. She still fought, and kept her eyes closed. She shielded of the part of her mind that would allow Jack and Daniel to feel her pain

Sam, open your mind, let us help you, share your pain Jack said

No, itll hurt you

Yes, but it will help you Daniel reminded her. They sent her the knowledge that they wanted to do this for her. So she opened her mind fully, and they all fell down in the pain.

Sam!!!! You need to find her!!! Help her please!!! Jack screamed both in his mind and out loud, and every one heard both, even the non telepathic, even those up in the control room heard his screaming in his mind. Hammond was worried.

Cpt. Capero, as it just so happened, was the highest-ranking officer in the mess hall at the time, with the exception of Jack and Daniel. So she took charge.

Lt. Heroshi, get them both down to the infirmary! Ill go see General Hammond. They all rushed to do as she said. Though nobody in this room had ever spoken to Hammond before, even Cpt. Capero.

Hammond heard a knock on his door, and shouted for them to come in. A woman in her 30s stepped in. Cpt. Capero if he remembered. She had a good record, whatever this was about, it was serious.

Sir, I was the senior most officer, with the exception of Colonel ONeill and Dr. Jackson in the Mess Hall when the incident occurred. It appeared that both of those men were in great pain, though there was no reason for that, so its my belief that Major Carter is the source of pain. Then, all of a sudden, their pain appeared to grow enormously, they fell on the floor. Colonel ONeill shouted, Sam!!!! You need to find her!!! Help her please!!! both out loud as they say, and, well, in our heads sir. When that happened, I could feel a great pain thats not my own. I ordered Lt. Heroshi to take both to the Infirmary and reported here.

Yes, I heard that shout in my head also, and felt the pain. Though I thought it was my imagination, though every one else seemed to have also. I was about to contact both Daniel and Jack right now. Thank you for reporting it. Get back to work, Ill see to this my self. Dismissed. With that the captain walked out. Shed heard that he was nice, and that he had a soft spot for SG-1, now she knew it.

Hammond walked into the infirmary, and could tell that Daniel and Jack seemed a lot better than what Cpt. Capero had suggested. Though if this were telepathic, that would mean that Sam was also doing better, and that was good. Janet walked over to him to give him a report, she knew hed been coming, the lieutenants whod brought Daniel and Jack in had said that a captain had gone to talk to Hammond.

Well, physically, their fine sir. So Id say that this is due to something that Sam is going through. And we need to help her if thats the case. And Im inclined to beleive it is. This may sound crazy but I heard the Colonel in.. Your head. And you felt a lot of pain, but only briefly. I know, its the same with every one on base. Including me. Your not crazy Doctor. Then both of them heard groans and turn to the only two patients there. Daniel and Jack opened their eyes and looked around, then focused on Hammond.

Have you found her yet?

No, we havent started the search yet. Weve only just figured out whats going on at this they both paled.

You know everything? Jack asked

No, only that something painful happened to Major Carter. That she was unable to shield you from it.

No, she could, and she wanted to so she wouldnt harm us. But we told her not to do that, by sharing her pain; its less for her than if shed decided not to share. But we need to get to her. NOW.

Where is she?

Sam honey, Hammond needs to know where you are so that he can come and bring you back to base

You have to come, both of you, I need you

Well come, promise. Where are you?

By the Cinema. In an old alley way. Please Jack

Danny, you tell Hammond

I will.

Shush honey its okay, youll be alright

Sam wasnt so sure, after what had happened to her, she couldnt help herself, and he had just been to strong. Shed fought, but theres been nothing she could do. Jack wouldnt want, wouldnt love some one like that. She would lose him forever. He didnt love her anymore. Hell never will again. I wont have anyone. He doesnt love me. He doesnt love me. Oh god, what will I do? He wont love me any more.

Sure I will, Ill always love you, no matter what with that, Jack gave Sam a mental hug. Daniel had told Hammond where Sam was. Sam, in the mean time, was very happy that Jack still loved her, she had no idea why he did, and just that he did. And she clung onto that knowledge with her life.

General, Jack and I need to go also, and I suggest only those closest to Sam go with us. Basically, you and Janet, I would say Tealc, but hes not here. Also, well need to get a blanket for Sam. We need to go now, Daniel said to Hammond who agreed. Daniel knew all of what was going on. And if he said only those close to Sam could come, then that would happen. He was honoured that they considered him close to them; after all, they were the famous SG-1, the team that didnt really have that many friends out side it. SG-1 was considered by most as a military team that explores worlds through the Stargate. But to those who worked in the SGC, they knew that SG-1 also represented the closest group of friends there ever could be. It was the name of their close-knit group. And in that sense, Janet was an honorary SG-1 member.

OK, Colonel, tell Major Carter, that were on our way

Sam, me, Daniel, Janet and Hammond are on our way to come get you a feeling of relief flooded them.

Only them?

Yes.

Good

The car pulled up outside the cinema. There was a queue of people waiting to see some new movie there. But when two people in military fatigues and two people in Air force uniforms, one a doctors appeared, they all looked, this was not normal. So they listened and looked.

Shes near, I can feel it One of them said, he was tall and had greying hair. They walked down an alleyway, and some people went to see what was there, and were shocked.

Jack walked up to Sam, Daniel on his heal and crouched down beside her. Sam honey, its me. Jack said in his mind and out loud. She looked up and hugged him. They knew that Sam might not talk out loud for a while. Theyd completely forgotten the people that were near, and they didnt know people were watching. The fact that Sam was very scared, and frightened filled their minds. Who would blame her?

Jack. Oh Jack. I love you so much. Danny?

Here. We need to get you to the car. Can you walk?

Think so. Oh god, Im probably all naked. Sam hung her head in shame at this. Why did Jack love her? Im worth nothing.

Dont worry about it honey. Your wonderful and you deserve so much more than this. Weve got a blanket, to keep you warm till you get back to base, Jack commented. It was at this point that he realised that people could be watching, and likely had figured out what had happened, as had Hammond.

Sam, can you talk out loud? Daniel asked

Dont want to

Come on beloved, you can do it. Just say something true and close to your heart. Or something

Kay what was not surprising was that even in her mind, she spoke scared and withdrawn. She looked up at her best friends and lover and managed a small, watery smile.

I love you guys She said faintly, and all of the non tele-trio members that were based at the SGC were surprised she hadnt reverted back to pure telepathic communication.

Okay Sam, time to get you out of here. Daniel, you go get the blanket out of my bag there.

Sure Janet

Jack, look after Sam. General, you go get the car started, we want to get back as soon as possible.

So the crowd stepped back, but still watched. A few minutes later, the people theyd identified as Daniel and Jack was carrying Sam, who had a blanket around her. She had cuts and bruises on her face, and her hair was all over the place. She was shaking like a leaf. Her face was pale. Jack had his arms around her, and kept on looking at her. Poor woman. They didnt pity her, they knew that was the last thing she would want, they were just sad that this had to happen to a pretty, and probably kind and smart woman. Then they got in, Jack, Sam and Daniel in the back, the General and Janet at the front. Boy did they hope she would be okay.

Just as the car sped off, they could have sworn they heard a man say I love you Sam, and a woman reply I love you too Jack in their heads.

==========================================
Like it? Hate it? Let me know. Ill see if I can get a second part out sometime. This is my first ever-completed fic. Yet again I must thank Shamera who helped and supported me ever so much. And Kestra. Thanks, I wouldnt have done it without you two. Copyright (c) 2000 Neth
