| I want it all, and I want it for nothing. Some people's piss-poor work ethic | ||||||||||

| Heres something that Ive noticed recently is missing from our society; a good work ethic. I know people who DO possess one, but they seem to be few and far between. More and more people care only about themselves, and what THEY can get out of a job. People are all convinced that they deserve more from an employer, yet so few of them actually DO deserve it.
As a case in point, I bring up a situation in the company that I work for. Now, Im not talking about any of the people who work for me at MY store, but there are a couple of other people who travel back and forth between the stores. For the life of me, I just cannot figure out exactly what it is they do that qualifies them for a paycheck. Oh, I know what theyre SUPPOSED to be doing. The company used to have one person who filled this same position, and she did the job far better than the two who are doing it now. But then, she had a good work ethic. If you are supposed to do a job, you stay until it gets done. You dont fucking leave cuz your goddamn dogs need to be fed. Thats a bullshit excuse. This position isnt like a clerk, who comes in, works their scheduled shift, and then goes home. Higher pay means more responsibility, and that in turn means longer hours. You want the pay, you should be doing the fucking work. Although in this case, all the clerks show a hell of a lot better work ethic than these two. Almost every one of them has at one point or another gone above and beyond what they were told was expected of them. But these other two, who both make a lot more than the clerks, cant even be bothered to do their fucking job. If your job is to make sure a certain area of the store is well-stocked, then fucking make sure it is stocked! This isnt that goddamn hard. At least it SHOULDNT be, now that two people are doing the same job that used to be accomplished by one. On the other hand, if you are only going to spend two or three hours a week in a certain store, then dont you think it might be a good idea to LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE THERE ALL MOTHERFUCKING WEEK!? Making suggestions to you does not mean we are trying to tell you how to do your job, or saying that you cant do it. ) Youve already proven that quite thoroughly.) Nor does it mean we are trying to get you in trouble, or fired or take your job. Even though a retarded, alcoholic, dyslexic chimp with only one arm and a penchant for flinging his own poo at customers couldnt do any worse. What these suggestions mean is we are all trying to keep the company running as well as it possibly can. Im not interested in some fucking high school game about who gets credit for ideas. Im not that insecure about my job. But then, I know I EARNED my position. Through hard work and sacrifice, as clichd as that might sound. I wasnt handed my job because I had tits. I held management and supervisory positions at other companies before this one, gathering experience and going to classes for training. And then I worked as a clerk for this company for over six months before being made a manager. I didnt just come in not knowing ANYTHING about it, and hope to hell I eventually learn what the fuck Im doing. And the whole time Im not trying to hide from everyone else that I havent got the first clue. But as I said, I dont have tits, so I had to work. We make these suggestions, not as some childish insult directed at you, but because we are HERE all the time. We TALK to the customers down here, and we know what they are looking for, what they are asking for. Its not a fucking competition to see who has the best fucking ideas. Its all of us working together to try and help this company be even better. So dont get all defensive when we come to you with a comment, or a suggestion, or an idea, or even a complaint. Being in charge of a certain area of the company means you ARE going to have to deal with complaints. I deal with them all the time. It goes with the fucking paycheck. And the most important thing is to DO YOUR FUCKING JOB! I do mine. If I have to be there from ten in the morning til midnight, Ill do that. Because thats what I get paid for. If I dont leave til eight at night, and then have to go in and cover the overnight shift because no one else is available to fill in for someone whos sick, and then STILL have to be there in the morning to do my own work, then I will. Because thats one of the things I agreed to when I accepted that bigger check. And so did you. So enough already with the lame excuses. Youre trying so hard to avoid the job that you KNOW you cant do, without LOOKING like you cant do it, that youre making it glaringly obvious that you cant fucking handle it. Complaints are a necessary evil to your job. You need to LISTEN to them so you can get better at it, and actually HELP the company move forward, instead of holding it back like you are now. Listen to the people who have been here longer. We might just know what the customers are looking for, since you are afraid to even talk to any of them. Anyway, this is an example of what I was talking about. People not bothering to do their fucking job, but looking for more from the company anyway. These two are constantly taking time off, and then turning around and going on trips that the company pays for. Meanwhile I am working my ass off, and I am soon to be going on just my second trip for the company. Not that I am working my ass off just so I can be rewarded. I do it because thats what I agreed to do. Because thats MY work ethic. If something needs to be done, then I will fucking stay there and do it. And if I get some sort of recognition, great! Thats a bonus. If not, I wont hold it against my employers. I know what I did for the company, and I know how hard I worked, and in the end, thats all that really matters anyway. Does that mean the people who DONT follow this type of work ethic are lesser people than me? That they are beneath me, or below me, or simply not as good as me? In the case of these two wastes of flesh, the answer is definitely YES! I AM better than they are. And they know it. This is WHY they get all pissy and defensive when I make a suggestion. Or have a complaint from a customer to pass along to them. They know theres no way in hell they could work the way I do, especially not without getting even more compensation than they are already receiving. I mean, what? Are they getting paid just for showing up once in a while? Thats what their outrageous check is for? And if I want them to actually do some WORK, then they need to get even more? I get sick and fucking tired of constantly having to go around behind these two supposed professionals and clean up their mess. And having to explain to the customers why we USED to have a good selection of product, but now we dont carry the items they actually want because the people in charge of ordering the product think they know better than the customers themselves do what they want. I really dont care what some bitch who owns a warehouse in Las Vegas says SHOULD be really popular. Im telling what the people actually DO WANT. And thats what you should be fucking listening to. Stop treating us like we dont have a clue what people are looking for because we havent mooched a dozen free trips to Vegas like you have. Thats NOT how you learn. Talking to the CUSTOMERS is how you learn what they want, and thats exactly what WE do, so stop ignoring us because what the customers want isnt what YOU want to order. I dont get to do that with the movies, so why should you get to do it with the other stuff? Doesnt make sense to me. Its just bad business to do things that way. Not that any of this would make any difference at all. Because I still dont have tits, so I cant know what Im talking about here. But at least I still have my work ethic, and so do all the clerks, so we can use the other areas, the ones I DO have control over, to make up for the money we are losing with these two greedy, lazy hags. And even though that means I have to do more than my fair share of the work, with fewer rewards, I will continue to do so, for the most part without complaint. Because Im the one who has to live me with me, and I cant do that if I dont give at least 100 %. Because I have a good work ethic that wont allow me to do less. |
