| Hey do you remember The Carol Burnett Show? Actually, do you even know who Carol Burnett is, outside of pop culture references? Not a lot of people under the age of 30 do, which is most likely WHY she is suing the creators of Family Guy over a 20 second or so clip that aired on a recent episode. She says they infringed on her rights to her name and likeness, and wants two MILLION dollars, and wants Fox to re-edit the episode so she isnt in it.
What a load of crap. Carol Burnett should be happy that someone remembers her fondly enough to poke a little fun at her. Thats what Family Guy does; pokes fun at pop culture. It parodies things that either are popular, or were popular in the past. Which is pretty much the same fucking thing that used to happen on The Carol Burnett Show. So now shes suing someone else for doing the same fucking thing she used to do. Yknow, back when she still had a career and people were talking about her. Thats what this is really about; the fact that shes pretty much a nobody now. She hasnt actually done anything in years. Yeah, I know shes an old crone now, but still, George Burns was doing things right up until he died. So was Bob Hope. A lot of people do, but Carol Burnett hasnt done shit in years, or if she has, no one has heard about it most likely because it wasnt worth hearing about! I get really tired of these show business idiots who think they are bigger or more important than they really are. Yes, you had a hit television show, and it was REALLY popular, but that was THIRTY FUCKING YEARS AGO! A HUGE percentage of Family Guys audience wasnt even BORN when your show was on, so Im willing to bet half of them didnt even get the ear reference anyway. And Im willing to bet Carol Burnett also knows that most of the viewers didnt get it and thats what is REALLY bothering her. Thats what this lawsuit is REALLY about getting her name in the headlines again. Well, that and the two million dollars, because if she isnt doing anything anymore, she probably NEEDS the money. Thirty years is a long time to go without income, even if you did have a popular television show. Just ask the cast of Star Trek. Happily, Fox is so far refusing to edit the episode, and kudos to them for that. Bowing down to these nimrods from the distant past is insane, and no one should do it. Parody is a perfectly legitimate form of comedy, which Carol Burnett should already know since thats what made her in the first place. Now all we can do is hope whatever excuse for a judge this ends up in front of realizes this as well, and the miserable cretin doesnt cave like so many people seem to do these days. Thatll just open the floodgates for other stars like Carol Burnett to do even more of this shit. And that wouldnt be funny at all. Just like Carol Burnett after 1978. |
