A Monkey Tour
In memory of Gizmo
1998 - 2003
My last phot of Gizzy.
WE DO NOT encourage or promote monkeys as pets or replacements for children.
In fact, exactly the opposite.
Please keep that in mind.
Photos of monkeys on this page are from our personal collection and are close monkey friends of ours.
Gizzy, a tufted capuchin, was the epitome of charm! Finally, free of the bars that held him captive, he lost his battle with canceer at age 5. Having worked his way up the ranks he was Alfa Male in his group when he passed. See his bio and artwork, which is for sale. Proceeds go to "Gizmo Memorial Medical Fund", to help purchase medical equipment & supplies for
Jungle Friends. Click photo above
to read Gizmo's  story.
They all live in Gainesville Florida at Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary.
My husband & I are in constant contact with them and continue to do all we can to help.
Connie & Buddie have been through a lot together.
A lot of pet monkeys live in cages that are incredibly small,
way too small.
They've never
seen another monkey,
never touched the earth,
their teeth are pulled or filed and sometimes,
fingers amputated ...
Iris (tufted capuchin) & Buddie (weeper capuchin), the ladies in Gizzy'z life,
were there to the very end.
Buddie is one of  Jungle Friends
first diabetics.
Proper diet & insulin, daily,  keeps her diabetes in check.
Click on this photo to get to Buddies JF bio, then click Iris' name at the top to see her bio and artwork.
... or worse, neglected or sent to a lab because they bite a visitor or family member once they reached maturity... Jungle Friends offers sanctuary & therapy to these
abused and unwanted primates ...
Baily, another white throat capuchin, is one of few residents at Jungle Friends
to be raised by his birth mother.
He's all monkey!
Gizmo was one of his best friends.
To read more about Bailey's antics & see his artwork, click his photo.
... part of their therapy is artwork, visit
Jungle Friends website and enjoy the vast array
of monkey art (which you can purchase),
sponsor a monkey, or just enjoy
the amazing stories of rescue & sanctuary.
Remember, monkeys don't make good pets ...
Tyler is a diabetic who's blood glucose levels are controlled with diet. Once addicted to daytime TV, he is now addicted to the many hours of grooming he receives from his monkey friends. He is in the same group with Iris & Buddie. To learn more about Tyler & his artwork, click his photo.
Mickey, one of the toothless wonders at JF.
... people don't take in to consideration
that monkeys will mature, instincts to be
the alpha monkey kick in.
These are inherent traits and can not be changed, altered or unlearned. They are born with it.
As they were also, born to be wild ...
Mickey is a white throated capuchin. As you can see, he has no teeth. This is a sad & inhumane commonality for pet monkeys. To read his Jungle Friends story & see his artwork,
click his photo.
Cappy one of Jungle Friends geriatrics.
... the monkeys on this page, are free from small enclosures, the abuse of attempts at taming
and free of the poking and proding of laboratory experiments. They are learning to be monkeys again, still,  wishing to be truly free and
out of the cage ...
Cappy is a brown cap capuchin (tufted). He is one of many living at Jungle Friends who is over 30 years old. He loves to greet his human caretakers with squeels of delight . Click photo to see his
JF Bio and artwork.
Born to be Wild, these souls have a new chance in life, as they learn to be monkeys again.
Learn that others speak their language. Feeling a new freedoms.
Once they settle into their new habitats and form new friendships
- with both human & non-human primates - their happiness is apparent in their gaze.
Clydette a black handed spider monkey.
Goldie Hawn kicking back as usual.
Clydette moved with Goldie Hawn from Las Vegas. They now have a boy to play with at Jungle Friends. I met her and Goldie in Las Vegas, where I use to care for them together. Moved to JF so they could be dehumanized, learn to be monkeys again & hopefully released to their rightful home. To read her bio & see her artwork, click photo.
Goldie Hawn is a Spider Monkey. An ex-pet and the first monkey I ever took care of. She is one of the hopefuls to be released back to the wild. To read more on Goldie, click photo.
It was in the Las Vegas home of Goldie & Clydette where I met my husband.
I was in the cage,  getting pounced on by Goldie,
when he arrived to do some landscaping.
It was then that our monkey traveling adventure began.
Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary is working hard to teach them the dangers & pleasures
of the Rain Forrest, in hopes that they can be released back to their natural habitat.
Free as they are Born to be, Wild. For the full story on the
