Automation Engineer

General Comments: The positions dealing with this construction project in rhode Island are the highest priorities with this company. Description: This position is responsible for design and selection of automation systems, control SOFTWARE and equipment. This position will also implement such systems and equipment, and oversee design practices, installation methods, testing and commissioning, and documentation of the same. Equipment selection will include: sensors, transmitters, control valves, regulators, variable speed drives, discrete switches, gauges, and automation platforms such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Building Automation Systems (BAS). Successful installation, programming, testing and commissioning are the responsibility of this position. On certain capital projects, work in power distribution upto and including Motor Control Centers (MCC's) and 480 VAC power may also be the responsibility of this position. This position will be situated in Rhode Island, working on the completion and integration of our newest manufacturing facility. They will provide the technical expertise needed to define end user requirements into written scope, and to then generate drawings and specifications or review those generated by outside engineering firms. Such engineering documentation will typically consist of: Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID's), loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, instrument lists, specifications and data sheets, arrangement drawings, panel drawings, SOFTWARE design requirements, SOFTWARE design description, testing and commissioning criteria. This position may be responsible will be responsible for overseeing the technical work performed by outside engineering firms and installations provided by outside contractors. Education: BS degree in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical preferred) or equivalent experience Requirements: Minimum of five years of experience in automation engineering. Experience with biotechnology unit operations in fermentation and purification required. Should be familiar with sanitary instruments, installation, validation, Allen-Bradley PLC programming, DCS systems, BAS systems, National Electric Code, system design, commissioning, and start-up. Professional Registration in State of Rhode Island, preferred. Experience in prioritizing multiple tasks in a faced paced environment. Must be able to analyze data and make good technical decisions. Requires exceptional planning and coordination with others. Strong skills in verbal and written communications in English required. Job will require periodic travel, overnight, via plane, both domestically and internationally. Travel time per month will vary. While no heavy lifting is expected, the physical demands of the job require periodic trips to outside engineering firms, vendor sites, and construction sites. Corrected vision is acceptable. Must also wear PPE at times, such as hard hat, protective eyewear, and safety shoes.
