Stormy Waters in Paradise - Chapter 10

“Babe, where’s my hat?” Justin called from the closet. He was kneeling on the floor intently searching through the closet.

“Which one are you looking for?” Keeley replied. She walked out of the bathroom and stopped just as a hat flew past her head. Hats, one after another came flying over his shoulder into a pile on the floor.

“I want my new tan one,” she heard his muffled reply.

She bent down and picked up the one that had almost hit her. “What’s wrong with this one?”

He poked his head to see which one she had in mind. “I can’t wear that one! It wouldn’t go with my outfit, and besides I wore that last week!”

“God forbid you wear something twice! And what do you mean it doesn’t go with your outfit? The damn hat is white, your wearing khakis and a black shirt, how does that not match? Jeez, you’re worse than me!”

Justin just looked at her and rolled his eyes. He turned back to the closet to continue his hunt. A couple minutes later he emerged with a hat in hand and a big grin on his face. “Found it!” He carefully curved the bill and pulled the cap into place. He looked in the mirror, adjusted it and gave himself a million-dollar smile and winked at his reflection.

“Oh yeah, that looks so much better than a white hat,” Keeley said sarcastically as she walked past him. “Come on we’ve gotta get going, we’re gonna be late.”

“Chill woman, we’re fine,” he replied as he grabbed his sunglasses and his keys off the dresser.

“Chill yourself,” she replied. “You know how much I hate being late!”

The two made their way down stairs and into the garage. Justin opened the passenger door for Keeley before he hopped into the driver’s seat.

Before long the two were cruising down the highway with the top down on Justin’s convertible. It was a gorgeous day out. The sun was shining and the sky was dotted with a few white clouds. The announcer on the radio said it would be about 85 degrees that afternoon. Perfect weather for Disney World.

Keeley grabbed their case full of CDs and flipped through it before finally making a selection. She popped the CD in and turned up the volume. Justin gave Keeley a questioning look, but all she did was smile in return. A few moments later Limp Bizkit’s new CD came blaring through the speakers. The two sang along with the songs until they pulled into a long driveway. Keeley turned the volume down as they rounded the corner to find their friends standing in the driveway looking very impatient.

“I told you we were going to be late!” Keeley said as she gave Justin an annoyed look.

“I’m sorry Hun, I needed my hat though. You don’t want to be bothered by fans all day do you?” He looked at her with his best puppy dog look.

She rolled her eyes in reply. When the car came to a stop Keeley got out and walked over to her friends and gave them hugs.

“Damn, what took you so long?” Joey asked as he lifted her off the ground in a bear hug.

“Well, if Mr. Vanity over there didn’t need to try on a million hats we would’ve been here on time.” The group looked over at Justin questioningly. He just shrugged in reply and mouthed the letters P...M…S.

“Ok, so who’s cars should we take?” Monica asked, trying to change the subject. She reached up and adjusted the straps to her red halter-top as she looked at the guys.

“Well, my car is out, it only seats two,” Justin said.

“Let’s take mine and JC’s since they both seat five,” Lance spoke up.

“Sounds good to me,” JC agreed.

The group split up in their cars and agreed to meet at the special entrance of Magic Kingdom. The ride there was rather uneventful. Justin threatened once to cover up Lance’s eyes while he drove but both Keeley and Monica threatened him with his manhood. It didn’t take but that one time and Justin was good the rest of the trip.

The group arrived to the park about 30 minutes later. Being so early in the morning the roads weren’t too bad and they also knew several back roads. They quickly found parking spaces and began to make their way to the gate. They still had about 10 minutes before the park opened so they took a place in line. The guys were rather uneasy about the throngs of people that had already begun to collect at the park. They all had on hats and glasses hoping that no one would recognize them. The girls had even decided to put on hats and glasses. Partly because of the bright sun, but also because many of the band’s fans knew what the three girlfriends looked like. Keeley had decided to wear the white hat that Justin had so flatly refused to wear.

“Man…I want to go inside,” Chris began to whine.

“Chris, we have like maybe two minutes to wait. Chill out,” Cari almost growled at him. She was still not exactly happy with him for having thrown her into Justin’s pool.

“You know Cari you are looking a little dry. Maybe our first stop should be one of the water rides,” Chris retorted. To this Cari just scoffed at him, but moved closer to JC nonetheless.

“Children, children. Let’s play nice. Mommy doesn’t want to have to leave the two of you in the car while the good children go and have fun,” Monica laughed.

Lance turned and gave his girlfriend a peculiar look and rolled his eyes before adding, “don’t even think about volunteering Daddy to stay out there with them.”

“Oh look y’all, they are starting to let people inside!” Justin pointed out blissfully.

“Y’all? Don’t use the word y’all, that is so…I don’t know…Southern,” Keeley chided her boyfriend.

“So?” came the reply from Justin, Monica, & Lance. Keeley stood and stared at them with a dumbfound expression. She had forgotten that her best friend and Lance were also from the South.

“We can’t all be from the West Coast now can we?” Lance laughed.

“Yeah, it isn’t our fault that you weren’t lucky enough to be born in the South,” Monica replied nonchalantly. Keeley looked at Monica in disbelief before reaching out to playfully swat her on the arm. Monica looked and Keeley and acted like she was going to cry, her lip began to quiver and Keeley just laughed at her and told her to grow up. To this Justin just laughed, put his arm around Keeley, and led her to the gate. It was almost their turn to get in.

“Where to first?” JC asked the group as they stood on Main Street and looked around.

“Space Mountain,” was the unanimous reply.

“Why didn’t I see that coming,” JC asked himself as his girlfriend began to drag him towards Tomorrowland. When they got to the ride the line wasn’t too bad and they got to get on fairly quickly.

“Chris you scream like a little girl,” Monica stated as they were leaving the building that contained Space Mountain.

“So what, Cari does too,” Chris retaliated.

“In case you forgot Cari is a girl!” Joey said and smacked Chris on the back on the head and ducked Chris’ flying arm that came back at him

“Excuses, excuses,” Chris laughed.

“I swear we can’t take you anywhere,” Keeley said and pointed at Chris.

“Ok, ok. Enough chit-chat were are we going next?” Justin asked eagerly.

“Yes, were are we going next?” the man standing nearby, acting as if he was reading the site map, thought to himself. He folded up his map and pushed his dark sunglasses farther up his nose, in a vain attempt to conceal his bloodshot eyes. The man, who was in his late 20s, had gotten little sleep the night before. He was antsy and very to anxious to get his mission over with. He planned on finishing what Anthony, Steve, and Brian had started. He was still in shock that the three men he had picked so carefully had failed him so miserably. He was up last night making decisions and getting his thoughts in order. During the thought process he had determined that he wasn’t going to dwell on it, otherwise he would be just like the other three and screw everything up. That was not acceptable.

“Oh my gosh, I don’t remember getting that wet on Splash Mountain before!” Cari exclaimed as she reached back and rung the water out of her soaking wet hair.

“I know what you mean,” Keeley replied as she looked down at her white tank top that was now partially see through.

“Um, it is called Splash Mountain ladies, that does insinuate that you’ll get a little wet don’t you think?” Joey asked the girls. He wiped his hand across his forehead to rid himself of the beads of water that had formed. Cari turned and gave him a death glare. “Well, I was just saying…”

“What next guys?” Lance interrupted. He knew that Joey was fighting a losing battle.

“I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but I think I’m about ready to call it quits.” JC slumped down on the bench they had all grouped around. He looked around at his friends and noticed that they all looked pretty tired. ‘Monica has dark circles under her eyes,’ he thought before he realized that her mascara had run underneath her eyes from the wet ride they’d just been on.

“Uh, Mon, you might want to go to the bathroom, you look like a raccoon!” Chris yelled. Monica turned around and looked at him in confusion.

“Huh?”

“Mon you’re mascara is all over your face,” Keeley whispered in her friend’s ear.

“Oh my!” Monica gasped as she rushed towards the bathroom dragging Keeley behind her. She could hear the group laughing behind her.

A couple minutes later the two girls returned, both looking cleaner and a little dryer. Monica walked over by where Lance was standing and leaned her head against his shoulder. He wrapped his arm comfortingly around her. Keeley plopped down in Justin’s lap who was sitting next to JC on the bench.

“So what’s the plan?” Justin asked.

“Guys I think we should call it a day. It’s starting to get crowded and I think I’m getting a sun burn,” Monica replied.

The group collected their things and made their way towards the main exit. When they reached the parking lot they loaded back into the cars they had arrived in and headed back to JC’s house.

‘This is way too easy! They are completely clueless,’ thought the man driving the black SUV behind Lance’s car. He pulled his baseball hat a little lower and pushed his sunglasses farther up on his nose. He made sure to keep a little distance between himself and the group. He would make his presence known when he was ready.

Later that night, Monica and Lance were curled up on the couch in his living room. They had just finished the pizza they had ordered and were settling down to watch Saturday Night Live.

“Babe, I love the rest of the guys, but it’s really nice to have some alone time with you,” Monica said as she snuggled in closer to Lance and wrapped her arm around his stomach.

“I know what you mean,” Lance replied. “I think this is the first time we’ve really been alone since we’ve been back.”

The two sat in silence and watched the skits unfold on the TV. They had no idea that they were not alone. A pair of eyes was watching them carefully through the window by the TV. Oblivious of their watcher the two drifted off to sleep in each other’s arms.

“J, I’m going to go up stairs and change,” Keeley hollered down the hall. She pulled the beach towel around her tighter. It was starting to get dark out and the two had just finished swimming. She made her way up the stairs leaving little wet footprints behind her.

She was just finishing up in the bathroom when she heard a light knock on the door. “Come in,” she yelled. The door opened and Justin entered the steam filled bathroom.

“Just wanted to see how you were doing,” he said as he walked over to the counter and sat down on it.

“I just finished my shower,” Keeley replied. Justin reached out and pulled her over to him. He was still wearing his swim trunks and his chest was still covering in beads of water. “J, you’re getting me wet!”

“Well, we’d better get you out of those wet clothes then,” he replied. He reached out and grabbed the bottom of her tank top and started to pull it up her stomach.

“I suppose you’ll have to catch me first!” Keeley broke out of his grasp and tried to make a run for it, but there was no place to go. The bathroom door was shut so she jumped into the shower and flung the shower curtain closed.

A moment later the shower curtain flew back open and Justin jumped into the shower with her. Laughing, she reached out and began to tickle his stomach. He curled up in an effort to protect himself from her hands.

“Oh you think that’s funny huh?” he said. He reached out and grabbed both of her hands in one of his and reached out and tickled her mercilessly.

“Ok, ok, I give up!” she cried in defeat.

“I don’t think so,” he replied and continued his attack. After a minute of Keeley begging he finally gave in and slid down to the floor to the bathtub, pulling her down with him.

“You know what this reminds me of?” he asked. She turned around and looked at him questioningly and saw the extremely evil grin on his face.

“What? Oh wait, nuh uh, don’t even go there!” she replied.

“It’s really too bad our tub isn’t big enough to swim in,” he said while looking around the tub.

Keeley turned around and nudged him in the ribs. “You know, Monica and Cari still give me a hard time about that!”

“But it was fun right?” he asked innocently.

“Take your shower Timberlake,” she replied as she wiggled out of his arms and stepped out of the shower. A minute later Justin’s shorts came flying over the top of the shower curtain and the sound of water running filled the bathroom. Keeley tiptoed over to the curtain and whipped it open. Startled, Justin opened his eyes to see Keeley giving him a very evil grin.

“Don’t take too long,” she said and stepped forward to kiss him. He reached out to pull her in but she was just beyond his grasp. He heard the door click closed a second later.

After his shower Justin put on a pair of sweats and a white tanktop and made his way down the stairs.

“Damn, girl, what smells so good?” he called from the hallway. A second later he emerged in the kitchen to find his girlfriend emptying the contents of Chinese takeout boxes into several bowls.

She turned and smiled at him. “Dinner is served!” She picked up the bowls of food and carried them into the living room and set them down on the coffee table. Justin followed carrying two plates and some chopsticks.

The two sat on the floor in front of the coffee table and started to serve up their food.

“Shoot, I forgot to get the drinks,” Keeley spoke.

“Babe, it’s ok, I’ll get it,” Justin offered.

“Nah, it’s ok, I’m already up anyway,” she replied. “What would you like to drink?”

“Just some water.”

Keeley walked into the kitchen over to the cabinet and pulled out two glasses. She got some ice out of the freezer and went over to the sink. She turned the faucet over to cold and stuck her hand under it to wait for the water to cool down. All of a sudden, she had the feeling she was being watched. She turned around expecting to see Justin but he was no where to be seen. “J?” she called.

“Do you need some help?” he replied from the living room.

“Uh, nevermind.”

She slowly turned in a complete circle examining the kitchen. The feeling hadn’t gone away. She still felt as if eyes were watching her. She came to a stop facing the sink once again. Slowly she raised her eyes to the window above the sink. There, staring back at her were two dark eyes. She let out a scream and dropped the glass she was holding. It crashed to the ground, shattering into several pieces. She turned quickly back to the window but the eyes were gone. She was staring into darkness.

From the living room Justin heard her scream and the shattering glass and sprinted into the kitchen.

“Keeley! What happened? Are you ok?” he yelled as he rushed over to her. He pulled her shaking body into his arms and asked again. “What happened?”

“I…I…someone was watching me through the window!” she exclaimed. She was completely shaking, she couldn’t control herself. Justin ran to the backdoor, flipped on the light and swung the door open. He stared out in his dark backyard for a minute before closing it. He locked the door, and checked the handle just to be sure before he walked back over to her and wrapped his arms around her once again.

“Well, whatever it was, it’s gone now,” he said reassuringly. He helped her into the living room and sat her down on the couch. She had finally stopped shaking and her breathing had begun to slow down.

“Are you ok?” he asked a couple minutes later.

She looked at him and nodded her head. “Yeah, I’m ok.”

“Alright, I’m going to go clean up the glass in the kitchen. You just sit here and try to relax.”

“Thanks J. I’m sorry,” she said.

“For what?”

“For breaking your glass.”

He walked back over to her and enveloped her in a hug. “Sweetie, don’t worry about the glass, its no big deal.” He pulled back and kissed her gently. “I’ll be right back.”

“Oh my gosh, are you ok?” Monica exclaimed. Keeley had just finished telling her what had happened the night before. The two were having coffee together.

“Yeah, I’m fine. I probably just imagined it. I’m still jittery from the trip,” Keeley replied. She gave her friend a reassuring smile and reached for her mocha and took a slow sip.

Monica looked at her friend skeptically. “Yeah, you’re probably right,” she finally said.

The two sat in silence for a few minutes, both lost in their thoughts. Keeley finally spoke up, “ It’s too bad the guys had to go back into the studio this morning.”

“Yeah, I know what you mean. Lance and I just got to spend our first night alone together in weeks, and now he’s going to be busier than ever.”

“Mmm,” Keeley nodded in agreement. She too knew how demanding their boyfriend’s jobs were on their time. When work called, the guys had to leave. She was always lonely when Justin had to be in the studio until late at night. “It always kind of creeps me out being alone in that big house without him.”

“Yeah, I feel like that too some times. The house just seems so, I don’t know, empty I guess.” Monica took the last sip of her latte and stretched. “Ok, now I’m all depressed, let’s go shopping!”

“I like you’re thinking girl,” Keeley replied. The two friends collected their cups and threw them away as the exited the coffee shop and headed for the mall.

“Babe I’m home,” Justin called through the house.

“I’m in the living room,” Keeley called back.

“Come here for a sec, I’ve got a surprise for you,” Justin replied. A happy grin was plastered on his face. He couldn’t wait for her to see what he’d brought her. A few moments later Keeley walked into the entryway and looked at Justin curiously.

“Well, where’s this surprise?” she asked as she looked at him standing there empty-handed.

“Look outside,” was his simple reply. With that he opened the front door and stepped aside so Keeley could see out.

“Oh my gosh!” she squealed as she rushed out the front door over to the tree in the lawn. There sitting next to the tree was a little golden retriever puppy with a red bow half it’s size. She rushed over to the puppy and kneeled down next to it. She laughed as she was greeted with wet sloppy kisses on her face as the puppy jumped into her lap. Justin walked over to join the two playing in the yard. When he kneeled down next to Keeley she turned and threw her arms around his neck. “Thank you, thank you!” she exclaimed gleefully. When she pulled back from him she planted a kiss squarely on his lips.

Justin laughed and replied, “I’m glad you like your surprise!”

“Are you kidding? I love him!” She reached over and hugged Justin again.

“I just figured he could keep you company while I’m in the studio. Plus, I figured we could use a fierce guard dog.” The both turned to look at the puppy and laughed when they saw it chasing after a butterfly.

“Oh yeah, he’s sure a killer!” Keeley said.

“Well let’s get him inside and introduce him to his new home,” Justin said as he reached down and scooped the wriggly little bundle of fur into his arms.

‘Isn’t that just too sweet,’ the man thought as he watched the happy couple carrying their new puppy inside. ‘You know, this could really work out to my advantage.’ Once he was sure Justin and Keeley were inside the house he started his car and quietly sped away.

The next morning everyone had congregated at Justin and Keeley’s house to meet the newest member of their group.

“Awe, he’s so cute,” Monica said as the puppy pounced on her feet.

“Do you know what you’re going to name him?” JC asked.

“Um, we’re not sure yet, but we have a couple ideas,” Justin said.

“Oh yeah, what do you have in mind?” Joey asked. He was too busy to look up because he was playing tug of war with it.

“Well, we were thinking Max, or Riley, or possibly Andy,” Keeley told them. “I think he has a little too much energy right now, does anyone want to walk him with me?”

“Sure, I’ll go,” Monica said, and stood up.

“Me too, I’d like to stretch my legs a little,” Cari joined in. Together the three of them walked out of the living room with a wagging-tailed pup following behind.

After the girls had left Lance turned to Justin and asked, “So what happened last night?” He looked intently at Justin. Three other heads quickly turned as well.

“I’m not exactly sure. Keeley was getting us something to drink and she saw someone watching her through the window, but when I went outside to check on things I didn’t see anyone.” Justin’s brow creased with concern.

“Do you think someone was really out there?” Joey asked his friend.

“Well, she wouldn’t make it up, that’s for sure,” he replied.

“Maybe her eyes were just playing tricks on her,” Chris added.

Justin didn’t respond, he just sat there deep in thought.

“Did you call the police and report it?” JC asked.

“No, I figured since I didn’t see anything when I went out there, there was really no reason to call the cops.”

Suddenly Lance turned and faced Justin with fear in his eyes. “Those guys from the island are in jail right? I mean they weren’t released on bail or anything?”

“Nah man, don’t worry about that. Those guys will be locked up for a long time; it’s all over. Besides if they were released or anything we would be notified since we have a restraining order out on them,” Joey told them. The look of fear eased on Lance’s face. Justin though, still appeared a little uneasy.

The girls strolled down the street as they chatted. Every few paces they had to stop, due to the puppy needing to smell everything.

“Well at least now you won’t be lonely when J is gone right?” Monica asked her friend with a smile.

“Yeah, you know it’s funny but I think I’ll feel a lot safer with this little guy around, even though I know if anyone broke in he would probably help them carry out the TV and lead them to the valuables.”

The group chuckled at the mental image they got in their head. When once again they had to stop so the puppy could investigate Keeley rolled her eyes in exasperation and reached down and scooped up the puppy into her arms. The pup was not having any of that though. He wiggled and wriggled until finally in defeat Keeley set him back down on the ground.

“Well so much for a walk. I don’t think this is going to work guys, maybe we should head back,” Keeley said. She smiled at her friends apologetically. They’d only made it to the end of the block.

“Don’t worry about it,” Monica said reassuringly. She reached over and took the puppy’s leash from her friend to give her a little break. Keeley looked at her gratefully. She had a feeling this little puppy was going to be a handful.

“Well I think I like Riley the best,” Justin said. He and Keeley were sitting in the middle of the bed with the puppy in-between them. They’d been discussing names for a while.

“Then Riley it is,” she replied. Just as she said Riley the puppy’s head shot up and looked at her.

“I think he likes it too!” Justin said with a chuckle.

“Well, it’s past your bedtime Riley,” Keeley said as she picked the puppy up and carried it over the crate next to their bed. She placed the puppy inside, fluffed the blanket a little and put a little stuffed lamb inside next to Riley. “Goodnight sweetie.” She stood up and walked over and flipped the light off before climbing under the covers.

No more than 30 seconds later they were startled by a sorrowful howl coming from inside the crate.

“Oh no,” Justin said with a groan.

“Maybe if we are quiet, he’ll fall asleep,” Keeley offered hopefully. The two laid there in silence, praying that the new member of their family would quiet down. No such luck.

After about five minutes of listening to the continuous crying Keeley rolled on her side to face Justin in the dark. “Babe, maybe we should just let him sleep with us.”

“No way, we start that now and he’ll never leave us alone!” he replied firmly. “Besides I thought I was the only guy you wanted to sleep with,” he added with an evil grin.

“Well he is cuter than you ya know, better kisser too,” she replied mischievously. She pounced on Justin and began tickling him in the ribs. After a moment she relaxed on his chest. “Please,” she said, trying her best to sound pitiful.

“No.”

“Pretty please?” she asked while climbing up him so they were face to face.

“Nuh uh,” he replied with a smile. She leaned down and kissed his jaw.

“Are you sure?” She leaned down again and gently kissed his eyelids. All he did was shake his head in reply. She kissed the tip of his nose and then replaced her lips with her own nose so they were tip to tip.

“Just this once?” she asked pleadingly. The puppy still hadn’t let up; in fact his cries were growing louder by the minute. She looked into Justin’s eyes and noticed their twinkle.

“Ok, ok, but just this once,” he finally gave in.

Keeley leaned in and gave him a quick peck on the lips before replying, “Push over!” Giggling she jumped off the bed and let Riley out of the crate. She picked him up and brought him back to their bed. Placing him down at the foot of it, she climbed back under the covers. A couple moments later she felt the bed move next to her. She reached out to feel Riley’s soft fur snuggled in between she and Justin. In no time the puppy’s breathing was slow and deep, he’d fallen asleep.

“Babe, I’m going to be in the studio all day long,” Justin called as he rushed down the stair and into the kitchen. He grabbed a banana out of the fruit bowl and rushed to the garage door.

“It’s ok, Cari and Monica are coming over in a little while. We’re going to have a girl’s day.” Keeley sat on a barstool with an amused smile watching her boyfriend rush around the kitchen frantically. He was running late as usual.

“Ok, have fun,” he yelled over his shoulder as he dashed into the garage.

“You too! Have a good day,” she hollered back. A moment later she heard the garage door open and Justin’s car peal out and speed off.

She got up and pulled the blender out of the cabinet. She set it on the counter and flipped on the radio. She was singing along with Eden’s Crush when she heard a knock on the door.

“Coming!” she yelled as she danced down the hallway and opened the door. “Hey girl,” she said as she grabbed Monica’s hand and twirled her around. “I love this song!”

Laughing, Monica allowed her friend to pull her into the kitchen. She took a seat on a barstool nearby as Keeley went back over to the blender.

“I’m making fruit smoothies, want one?” Keeley asked her friend as she peeled a banana and plopped it in.

“Sure, sound’s good,” Monica replied. Just as Keeley hit the blend button they both heard the doorbell ring.

“Hey, would you get that?” Keeley yelled above the noise of the blender. Monica nodded in reply and a moment later she returned along with Cari.

“Hey Cari!” Keeley said brightly after she turned off the blender. “Want a smoothie? There’s enough for all of us.

“Sure, I didn’t get breakfast, JC woke me up late,” Cari replied as she took a seat next to Monica.

“So where’s No name?” Cari asked as she looked around the kitchen.

“Huh?” Keeley replied. A look of confusion flashed over her face before she realized what Cari meant. “Oh he’s not no name anymore, we decided to name him Riley.”

“Awe that’s a cute name,” Monica said. “Where’s he at?”

“He’s playing in the backyard somewhere,” Keeley replied as she poured their drinks.

Cari and Monica got up from their seats and walked over to the back door. “There he is,” Monica said. Riley was in the back yard lying in the grass sleeping. “Jeez, what’d you do to get him to sleep?” Monica asked, remembering how much energy the little pup had the day before.

“Oh, he just had his breakfast. His little tummy’s full, but just you wait, in about an hour we’re going to have a hellion on our hands!” Keeley replied with a laugh. Her friends laughed along knowingly.

“Here ya go! Enjoy!” Keeley said as she walked over and handed her friends their smoothies. Do you guys want to go out front and drink these?”

“Alright,” the two replied.

Out in front the three girls sat on the porch and chatted while they had their breakfast. After a little while Keeley began to realize that Riley was being awfully quiet.

“You know,” she began, “Riley is being waaaay too quiet. Maybe we should go check on him.” The other two girls agreed and walked around to the fence that led to the backyard and quickly opened it, ran inside, and closed it again. They were all expecting to be ambushed by the puppy just as soon as they opened the door, they were mistaken.

“Man, Kee that is weird…wonder where he is hiding?” Monica asked when they didn’t see the puppy right away. They quickly began scouring the backyard to no avail.

“Do you think he dug his way out?” Cari asked. “Maybe we should check around the fence. You know how puppies like to dig up things.”

“Good idea,” Keeley said and they split up and began to search the fence line. Still nothing. Keeley was beginning to get upset. “Ok this isn’t funny. RILEY! COME HERE RILEY! HERE BOY!” They continued to look around, but the dog still didn’t show up. “Oh my gosh. I have got to go call Justin!” Keeley suddenly exclaimed and made a mad dash for the backdoor. The other two girls stayed outside to continue the search and decided to go and check out the front yard in case somehow he had gotten out and they were overlooking it.

Keeley was almost frantic as she quickly dialed the familiar numbers to Justin’s cell phone. She prayed that he had left it on. The phone began to ring. Finally Justin answered after a few rings.

“Hello?”

He heard Keeley’s panicked voice fill the line, “Justin, Riley’s gone!”
