Chapter5
A big breath of air came from AJ�s lips. He must of been holding his breath, but he hadn�t even noticed. His eyes widened a little as a blank expression appeared over his face. The expression was unreadable as he blinked. His mouth moved mechanical a few times but nothing seemed to come out.
�Mr. McLean, Like I said before the decision is completely up to you.� The officer told him as the doctor put the papers back into the envelope.
Softly AJ�s voice came back to him. �Can...can I...can, can I just...just see her?� He asked with short pauses between his words as he stuttered a little.
�Sure, that�s fine. After all, you are her parent� The officer told him.
�I mean, can I see her without taking her home? Can I just meet her?� He asked, this time his voice rising above the sound of a whisper.
�Yes Mr. McLean. That can be arranged, that�s fine. All you have to do is say when.� The officer told him.
�How about now?�
�Sure, we can go see her now if you like. Now, would be just fine.�
�Okay then, I want to go.�
�Okay, You can just follow me down there. You came in your own car?�
�Yeah.�
�Well, then we can go right now. It�s not too far from here. Thank you Dr. Sykes for your help, I�ll see you later Sir.� The officer shook the doctor�s hand. �Well if your ready Mr..McLean, we can start on our way.�
�AJ stood and walked out the door. When he came back into the waiting room Howie was reading a magazine. He looked up to see AJ following a police officer.
�Hey, how did things go?� He asked looking up from his magazine. �We have to go, I�ll tell you in the car.� AJ told him looking over at the officer then back at Howie.

�So where are we going? What happened?� Howie asked when they entered the car.
�She�s... she�s mine. Were going to see her.� He pronounced.
�Were going to see her? AJ don�t you think you should think this out? I mean are you ready to take on the responsibility of a child? I thought...�
�Chill Howie.� AJ said cutting him off. � It�s not like I�m going to take her home today or anything, I haven�t decided on anything yet. I know I have to think this whole thing out a lot more. I just...I just wanted to see her. That�s it, just see what she looks like, see her face.�
�Oh. So...AJ what are you thinking right now? I mean, how do you feel?� Howie asked realizing AJ�s life had just changed from the news.
�I don�t know D. I mean, I�m a dad. That�s....that�s crazy! Who would have ever thought I would ever be someone�s dad? I really don�t know what to think. The first thing that came in to my head was how does she look? What is she like? I just, wanted to see her, ya know.�
�Yeah.� Howie added as he looked out the side window.
