Chapter 1 So what do you think? What do I think about what? About Sally Peterson. What about Sally Peterson? What I just told you. About her dating Roger just after him and Caroline broke up. I mean, its only been a week and she was with him for like 2 years. I mean thats a long time, and then to have one of your closest friends to just start seeing him only after a week of your brake up...thats crazy. I think shes a slut. Oh....yeah, thats pretty bad. Dont say the word slut though. Destiny. Have you heard a word Ive just said? Yeah, Roger and Caroline broke up. Your not listening to me. Macy, Im trying to hear what Mrs. Sherwood is saying. Its the same old thing, blah, blah, blah. Macy please, shhh. Okay, fine. The red haired girl said as she sat back and tuned back into what their boss was saying. Mrs. Sherwood was the head of Deaker Janitorial corporation. She was a stern uptight women that was very impatient. Now, onto other news. There has been a new job opening and we now are handling Dozer music studios. So we will need at least three people to work with Harold at that account in the evenings. The short women announced. Oh my gosh, a studio. We have to take that job. Destiny whispered to Macy excitingly. Dozer studios. It sounds stuffy. Besides, do you really want Harold as a boss? Macy said looking over at the older man with stringy, wet looking, gray hair that covered his face. Its not stuffy, and Harolds not that bad. Hes just been working here for a long time. Its a real music studio. Macy, we have to work there. I dunno, a music studio. I mean the account were handling in the evenings right now is pretty good. Its really small, and we get free chocolate on Wednesdays. Macy, will you forget about the free chocolate. The Bushess Brake room is okay, but this is a music studio. Music is like my life. Just working at a place like that would be so cool. Working at a place like that... as a janitor. Even if I cant work their as a musician just being close to the music...it would just be so cool. So who would like to take the positions? Mrs Sherwood added as she finished. Destiny quickly raised her hand. Okay, Destiny is one, who else? She asked. Come on Macy. Destiny shrugged. Do I have to? She whined. Macy, after saving your butt several times, sticking up for you and helping you out, this is the one thing I ask of you. Please. She said as she held the last word of her sentence over. Ahh, k. Macy said as she extended her arm. Miss Roberts, so nice of you to volunteer. We need one more. Mrs. Sherwood said sounding sarcastic. Perry, glad to see you want to help. She said as she spotted a guy with his arm raised. Well you three have it then. You will start tomorrow, report here in the afternoon and Harold will drive you there and explain your duties to you. Now onto other things. The pale women started. Ugh, were going to be working with Perry. See, I know I shouldnt have let you talk me into this. Macy whispered. Please. Perrys cool. Weve worked with him before. We talk to him all the time at home. Yeah, but living in the same building with him and working with him are two different things. I think he has a thing for me or something. Your such a complainer, Perrys cool. Well have fun, youll see. Destiny finished. Macy just rolled her eyes and tuned back in to what Mrs. Sherwood was saying. Destiny and Macy had been best friends for two years now. Destiny had lived in New York for three years. She moved their right after high school to start college. Her dream was to be a professional musician. She lived in the dorms, and for a year everything went well until she lost her scholarship after her grades dropped low for a semester. She had no way of paying her bills and no family to speak of, so she had to quite school and find a job. She met Macy while looking for an apartment. Since they were both looking for a place to live they decided to become roommates so they could split the cost for rent. Macy also got her a janitorial job at the same place she was working. The girls seemed to be opposites but the one thing that they did have in common was that they were both orphans. This one thing alone brought them together, and they decided to be each others family. Hum, so what should we eat tonight? Macy asked Destiny as they entered their apartment. I dont know, how about Maccaroni and Cheese? She asked her. Hum, I was thinking of something more like a large pepperoni pizza, large box of bread sticks, and coke. The red haired girl said as she fell onto the couch. Pizza? We just had Burger King last night, we cant always have take out. Were using all our money up on food. The dark haired girl said as she sat in a chair. Using money on food is okay with me. The other girl replied. Not only is fast food expensive, its fattening. Its not good for you at all. Im okay with that too. Whatever. Destiny stated as she started for the kitchen. Besides, dont I deserve a pizza after giving my job up to work at a stuffy studio? Macy asked as she turned the TV on. Its not going to be stuffy. Youll see, itll be fun. We might even get to meet some famous people. I heard Eminem records there. Really? She sat up straight looking interrested.Well... not really, but I heard the Backstreet Boys have done some recording there. The Backstreet Boys. Oh lord! No wonder you wanted to work there. No, whatever your thinking its not true. Im over them, really. I just wanted to work in the studio. Sure you do. I remember when we first met, all you use to do was talk about that one guy, whats his name, EJ, JB, JJ? No AJ, and Im not into him anymore. Ive grown up a lot since then. Im not into the boyband thing anymore. He was just my little crush. Like that thing you have for Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray. I do not have a thing for Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray. Macy, who are you trying to fool. Okay, but at least Sugar Ray is a real band. The Backstreet Boys are just a boyband. Whatever. Destiny said as she rolled her eyes. Just then they heard a knock at the door. Whos that? Destiny asked looking at Macy. I dont know, why do you think people only come to see me? Maybe its someone for you. Macy announced as she started channel surfing. Destiny looked though the peep hole and slowly opened the door. Hey, anyone order a pizza? The short blond guy asked as he peered thought the crack in the door. Did someone say pizza? Let him in, what are you doing standing in the way! Macy exclaimed as she continued to flip through channels. Hey, Perry. Whats up? Destiny asked as she opened the door. Well thought it would be fun to eat dinner with my neighbors and new colleges at work. He said as he entered with a large pizza and Coke in hand. Im all for that, just put it on the coffee table right here. Destiny why you just standing there? Be useful, get some cups, plates, or something. The girl on the couch said as she followed the pizza with her eyes. Thanks a lot Perry, your really not helping my case here. I was just explaining to Macy why its good to eat healthy. Im telling you, both of you, we need to start eating more healthy. Pizza is not good for you. The dark haired girl protested. Sure it is, it has all of the four food groups. The crust is bread, the pepperoni is meat, the cheese is dairy and the pineapple is fruit. Perry said as he put the pizza down and went into the kitchen to get paper plates. You got pineapple? Macy asked excitingly. Yap. He said giving a sly smile. Ohh, hand me a plate! She said as she opened the box. Seriously, Macy we eat out all most everyday. Its not good. Not good for our bodies and defiantly not good for our wallets. Destiny said as she handed the cups out. Okay, okay your right. But Destiny you really need to start living a little. I mean, I dont think youve crossed the street even once without looking both ways girl. She said as she poured a cup of soda. Whats that suppose to mean? Its not like I want to get ran over. She said as she picked up her cup. Yeah, but youd probably still look both ways at 3:00 in the morning when theres no traffic at all. Listen, all Im saying is that you have to start taking risks sometimes. I mean its okay to play it cool but not all the time. You have to start loosening up. Try not being so up tight about everything, relax a little. She said as she stuffed pizza into her mouth. Im not up tight, Im loose...sometimes. Destiny protested as she poured soda into her own cup. Girls, girls, dont fight. So what do you think about the new job tomorrow? Perry asked as he ate his pizza. I cant wait! Destiny said as she started flipping through channels. Humm, I think Im going to miss my free chocolate.Macy said giving a sad look. Im excited too. Seems like Ive been at the Folgers place forever. Besides, I think its a lot more fun working with you two instead of those two old guys. Barney and Bob are so boring. If I get like that when I become 50, please tell me. Perry told them. Not to mention one of them is named after a purple dinosaur. Macy said with a smile That cant really help their image any. Destiny just shook her heard and tuned into what was on TV. For some reason she felt like tomorrow held a new beginning for her, and she couldnt wait to find out what it was. |
