Chapter 10: What were you thinking?
As AJ sat in bed restless he stared at the ceiling. Jessica was now gone. He heard her when she had gotten up to leave. Actually he had been awake the whole time but he just pretended to be asleep. She had an audition to get to that morning for a spot in a Victoria�s Secret commercial. She also had two photo shoots to do later. One for a calendar and the other for a magazine. She would be gone for most of the day and like before she left a note on the night stand. When he had come home the night before Jessica had been awake. She started going over the list of things they needed for the wedding and they had both decided to have a formal and an informal wedding. The informal one was to happen Friday and the formal a couple months from now when they could make arrangements for everything.
Besides, the photo shoots Jessica was also going to be planning some stuff for the wedding today which would also take up most of her time. AJ lay in bed as if he were dead and limp. He would have today all to himself. Barry probably wouldn�t need him until tonight and Jessica wouldn�t be home for hours. Finally a day he could have for himself. Just then the phone�s loud ring disturbed his thoughts. �Hello?� He answered. �AJ, man have you completely gone crazy!? Please tell me you are not really going to marry Jessica. Just tell me it�s a big misunderstanding.� Kevin spat on the other end of the phone.
�Sorry can�t do that, I�m getting married.� He told him. �What? Have you completely lost your mind? And of all days Friday? Most people usually wait for a marriage you know like a year, 8 months, 3 weeks. But not one day! What were you thinking? I mean, you really want to marry this girl?� Kevin asked. �Well yeah Kev. Generally when you ask someone to marry you, you mean it. I know what I�m doing.�
�Do you? I mean do you really, really know what you�re doing? Because man I have to tell you Jessica is not exactly the kind of girl I thought you would want to spend the rest of your life with.�
�I need this Kev, you know? I need this marriage in my life. I need to have something stable and solid in my life and this marriage will be that for me. I want this.�
�I understand the whole stable solid thing. But AJ, can�t you find stable and solid with someone you actually love?� He asked him.
�Kevin I can�t really talk about this right now. I just don�t have time to defend my relationship to you. You can either be their Friday or not, it�s up to you. I have to go now though, okay.�
�Okay, bro, and... congratulations.�
�Thanks. Talk to you later, bye.� AJ said hanging the phone up. He laid back down on his bed looking at the ceiling. As he turned over to try to actually get some sleep the phone rang loudly again. �Kev, listen...� AJ started as he answered the phone. �AJ hi.� Barry said on the other end of the phone. �Oh, hi Barry. Thought you were someone else.� He said realizing his mistake. I was wondering, how do you feel about snow?�
�Snow? I guess it�s okay, why?�
�Well some clients of mine are having a small party in their cabin in the mountains. I swear you will make it back by midnight tomorrow. We might make it back before midnight even. They have a small private jet that can bring you up to the mountains but you will have to drive the rest of the way.�
�What do you mean I'll have to drive the rest of the way? Won�t you be their?�
�Well yeah, but I�m already here. I had a meeting early this morning with them and I left Serenity back at the house.�
�Oh.� AJ said in a sigh, as he knew what was coming next.
�Serenity�s already ready, so all you have to do is pick her up and go to the private airline. The directions to the cabin or in the car when you get there okay.� Barry said.
�Okay.� AJ breathed. After getting the directions to the airlines he picked up Serenity. She had her hair up in a bun and she had on jeans and a pink furry sweater. When they arrived at the privately owned airlines he told the front desk guy who he was and they boarded the plane immediately.
It was much smaller then either one of them had expected. As the plane became closer to the mountains little snow flurries started to appear in the window of the plane. The plane soon landed and a medium sized jeep was waiting for them. The pilot tried to explain to them where they were headed but AJ figured he could figure it out on the map. He couldn�t believe, only 2 hours ago he was asleep in his bed planning his relaxing day and now he was in a jeep in the mountains, in the middle of what seemed to be a light snow storm. �Do you know where were suppose to turn off at?� Serenity asked as she looked at the map. �Yeah, I'll find it.� He replied.
�Do you have any idea at all where were headed?� She asked.
�Yeah, that�s what the map is for.�
�Yeah, but can you read the map?�
�Yes, I can read a map Serenity, I�m not quite that dense.�
�You don�t have to get an attitude?�
�I�m not getting an attitude, I�m just trying to concentrate.�
�Do you want me to take over driving for you?�
�No! Don�t you ever stop. I can drive on my own.�
�Well I just thought it would be easier if we took turns driving.�
I�m doing fine by myself.�
Just then his cell phone began to ring. �Hello?� He answered while driving. �AJ, I know we got off on a bad start yesterday but I just wanted to say I�m sorry. If in some way I insulted you...� Linda told him on the other end. �No, no I�m sorry I was just kind of stressed out yesterday.�
�Well I�m sorry if I pushed you. I also wanted to wish you congratulations on your engagement.� She spoke.
�Geez, she told everyone.� AJ exclaimed. Serenity looked at him strangely and shook her head. �Excuse me?� Linda replied. �Nothing, never mind. Thank you Linda, I really do have to go now though.� He told her. �I understand, I know you�re busy. I'll talk to you later dear, good bye.� She said letting him go. �Bye.� AJ said hanging up the phone. �Who was that?� Serenity asked. �No one.� The irritated man replied. �Okay, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.� She replied back. �Okay, it�s hard enough trying to find this place without your annoying voice so could you just be quiet for one minute?� AJ said sharply.
�Fine, we don�t have to talk.� The dark haired girl spoke dryly. After 3 hours of driving they stopped at a gas station for gas. AJ bought a bag of potato chips and asked Serenity if she wanted anything but she didn�t answer, she was ignoring him. As the trip started again after a while Serenity fell asleep. AJ looked over at her. She reminded him of something pure while she slept.
