Chapter 7 AJ slowly fluttered his eyes open. His head hurt, that was the first thought that came to his mind. The second thought was where was he? �AJ, thank God your okay.� Kevin said as he came by his bed side. �Brian he�s waking up, he�s okay.� �AJ just take it easy, what do you remember?� Kevin asked him. �Remember?� AJ questioned closing his eyes again. �AJ, don�t go to sleep. Brain get the doctor, tell him that he�s awake.� Kevin instructed. �AJ, AJ?� He slowly opened his eyes again. �I�m fine Kevin geez! See, I�m awake, my head just feels like it�s been hit with a sledge hammer.� He said blinking a couple of times. �What happened?� He asked looking over at Kevin. �Mr. McLean.� The doctor announced as he entered the room. �How do you feel?� �I feel like I�ve been hit by a semi truck.� �More like a Cadillac. I want you to look straight at me for a moment.� The doctor said as he shined a small bright light into his eyes. �Mr McLean what is the last thing you remember?� AJ thought for a minute, trying to figure out how he had come to be where he was now. �I was...I was meeting Brain and Kevin.� He said looking over at them. �I was meeting them... somewhere and ...and The CD player wasn�t working right. And then...and then... that�s it.� He finished. �You were in a car accident. The passengers in the other car are okay. There doing fine. You blacked out for a little while though. Got a nasty bump on your head. I�m going to check your pulse now.� The doctor said as he grabbed AJ�s arm. �Mr. McLean do you feel any dizziness or any nausea?� He asked him. �No, just really sleepy� He replied looking at him strangely. �Okay, your going to be alright. The tiredness is to be expected. You got a concussion to your head. You also have two bruised ribs. You seem to be doing very well though. We're gong to keep you here over night for observation. If nothing changes by tomorrow we�ll let you go home. For now you just need to rest though, okay.� The doctor told him patting his leg. �K doc.� AJ said as he watched the doctor move towards the door. �He�s going to need plenty of rest so he shouldn�t have too many visitors tonight. I�m going to give him some medication for the pain, so he should be alright with that. Besides that, your friend appears to be fine. He should be home by this time tomorrow.� The doctor told Kevin. �Thank�s a lot, appreciate it.� Kevin said as the doctor exited the room. �God AJ you freaked me out for a minute there.� Brain told him giving him half a hug. �Hey, I�m alive. I�m okay.� He smiled. �Yeah, but do you know how long you were unconscious? You were out for five hours. The doctor told us the longer you were out the worse your chance was for full recovery. AJ you could have had brain damage.� Kevin said looking over at him. �Well no chance of that happening, I already have Brain damage.� AJ joked. �Not funny.� Brain said looking at him with a frown. �When the hospital called Kevin, we both just freaked.� Brain told him. �The hospital called you guys?� �They called me. My number was in your wallet.� Kevin told him. �I�m going to go call your mom and tell her your okay. She was just about to catch the next plane to LA.� Brain told him. �You guys called my mom...oh lord. Why did you have to go and freak her out for?� AJ asked. �We didn�t know when you were going to wake up....or if you were going to.� Kevin explained. �Brain tell her not to come. Tell her I�m fine.� �Yeah, I will. I�ll tell your guest your okay too.� He said as he walked out the door. �My guest?� He questioned. �Remember how I told you the hospital called me and told me you were here?� Kevin asked as he sat in a chair next to AJ�s bed. �Yeah.� �Well my number wasn�t the first number they called. They called another number they found in your wallet. But they got the voice mail so they left a message, and then they found my number and called me.� �Who�s number did they call?� �She�s been waiting for you all day AJ. Even though she couldn�t come in here to wait for you to wake up. The doctor told us only two people at a time could be in the room so she�s been in the waiting room. She hasn�t moved...not even to eat.� �Who is it Kevin? Don�t tell me it�s Jessica. I thought I threw all of her stuff away.� AJ sighed. �No, actually it�s Serenity.� |
