Prologue She hid, unable to move. Could he see her under the bed? She didnt think so, she hoped he couldnt. She heard his voice start to grow louder, he was angry, very angry. He wanted money, she got that much out of the conversation. Although it wasnt much of a conversation, it was mostly him screaming at the women. She stretched her head from underneath the bed to get a closer look. She could only see the womens face though, not the man. She only caught the back of his head. She saw the expression of fear on the womens face. As long as she had known her, it was a face she had never seen before. She also caught sight of the tears rolling down her cheeks. As the mans feet moved closer to the bed she pulled back, so that she could only now see his boots. They were dark snake skin boots and they were pealing at the toe. For some reason she noticed a scuff mark on the heal of one of them. She then heard things breaking. Why was he doing this? She didnt know. She was just so scared. She wanted to scream or let out a cry of some sort but she had to be quiet or he would hear her. The women had told her to stay under the bed and stay quiet. Whatever happens, stay quiet, no matter what. Those were the last words she had told her. The last words she had heard her lips whisper. The foot steps were starting to move away from the bed now. She then saw a lamp crush into pieces on to the floor. Some of the pieces came close to her hiding spot. She silently started to cry. The women was now pleading... pleading for her life? Pleading for him not to hurt her? She wasnt sure of which one. She then heard a bump against the wall. The women let out a slight cry. Then she heard a slapping sound. She heard more slapping and thumping sounds follow the first. She closed her eyes and tried to wish it away. Wish the whole horrible experience away. BOOM! She then heard a loud sound...the loudest sound she had ever heard in her life. It was so loud it hurt her ears and it caused her to jump and catch her breath as her heart felt as if it had fallen into her stomach. It was a wonder she didnt make a sound herself. Maybe because she was too paralyzed by fear. She saw the womens head and body hit the ground. It tumbled down with such force like a tree that had just been cut down. She fell so swiftly it almost seemed like something had left the womens frame before she hit the ground. After she fell she was lifeless as she lay. She couldnt see her face though. Why was she just laying there on her side? Why wasnt she moving at all? She saw the mans boots start to move away from the bed again, and then she saw them start toward the hall. The sound of the front door closing followed. She was only left with the sound of her own breath and heart beat. The apartment was completely silent. Was it over? Was it really over? She wasnt sure. What if he had just gone to get something. What if he was coming back? She continued to hide under the bed. Her heart was now pounding in her ears and she couldnt remember a time when she had heard it so loudly or so clearly before. As if it was someone elses heart she was hearing pounding loudly in there chest. She decided she would wait a while longer before she came out. After ten minutes had passed, she decided she would touch the women and see if she was okay. She came close upon the women and tapped her shoulder, but she didnt move. She then pushed her, but she still didnt move. She then figured it was time for her to come from underneath the bed. She came from underneath on the side and slowly started to the front, where she lay. Very cautiously she walked, listening very closely. So closely that one tiny sound would have sent her right back under the bed in a flash. She rounded the bed coming around to her. She then let out a horrible cry when she saw her face. Her mother was dead. |
