With the whole school humming the new hit "Mongrels Anthem" it was time for the Mongrels to go into the studio. The Mongrels Anthem single was recorded in Liam Welwood's bassment by Chad Alsager on Chad's 4-track recorder. It took the band around 23.6 tries to get through the song well enough to record. This particular version is very rare and included the back up vocals sang by everyone in the room.
During this time the Maidstone High School Math Teacher Mr Bodnarek was revolutionizing the way people looked at Math classes. While doing assignments in class he would allow music to play ifrom CD's he had made himself (This was before most Maidstone folk knew that a burner wasn't on a stove). If a class got over an 80% average each student would choose a song to be featured on the new classroom mix. Sure enough the Mongrels Anthem was there. Before long the song was being played over the intercom at noon hours, in Mr Bods Math Classes and has even been heard at school dances, much to the discust of the majority of the school body. Now back to Mr. Bodnarek, also known as DJ Bodrock. See Mr Bodrock was a DJ turned Teacher, so you know he knew where it was at when the word "remix" was mentioned. At home one night DJ Bodrock Remixed two new versions of this already stale song. The first was....well...uhhh...a little iffie. It consisted mostly of samples from Shaggy's big hit "It wasn't me" and sounds of thunder while dubbing in "songrel, songrel, songrel". The second however was a masterpiece of epic proportions. DJ Bodrock speed the song up to twice it's normal speed making the song nice and quick, not the slow sketchy speed that was a token of the then new Mongrels. Bodrock also hired Alvin and the chipmunks to sing vocals, which was a feat within it's self. These remixes never quite gained the popularity the original did, and served more as a novelty. |
