Star Trek: Earth Strike
Episode 6: Clash of Titans

The alien ships dove and swooped as they unleashed the power of their weapons, their paths weaving a complex pattern in attempting to avoid the answering fire from the Borg cubes defending the Earth. Unimaginable energies clashed as beams licked forth to flare against defensive shields or strike home damaging their targets.

The Borg cubes spun on all three axis bringing all their mighty firepower to bear against the ships of the attacking fleet. Each cube, however, maintained their position in the defensive network. Federation orbiting weapons platforms and stealth mines loosed their destructive cargoes. Phasar beams sizzled across space, photon and quantum torpedoes sought targets with which to join in mutual demolition.

The defensive fire took an awful toll on the attacking aliens; individual and even whole squadrons of the smaller ships disappeared in hellish explosions. The larger vessels seemed invulnerable to whatever attack was thrown at them, but neither did they strike out themselves.
The Borg, however, were not impervious to the attentions of the aliens. Though they continued to spin, presenting first one then another of their defensive screens to the enemy, they stayed in place, absorbing incredible amounts of energy from the attacking fleet.

For some minutes it seemed that the Borg would win out as the alien fleet shrank dramatically in size. Eventually, however, some threshold was reached as the capabilities of the huge cubes to absorb the energies directed against them was exceeded. In quick succession four of the cubes exploded in a massive chain reaction that sent shockwaves through the very fabric of space-time. Jagged fragments and shards of debris spread out into orbit, flared against the green shield or became streaks of fire as they entered the atmosphere.
The green shield flickered as the remaining cubes repositioned themselves to compensate for the missing nodes of their network. The shield seemed noticeably paler on the viewscreen of the Enterprise.
The bridge crew watched as two more cubes detonated. Captain, said Data, my projections of the current trend of the battle indicate that the Borg will shortly be destroyed while the alien fleet will retain considerable firepower.
They are sitting ducks! Exclaimed Worf, his knuckles white as they gripped the edge of the weapons console.
Data frowned, studying his screens. I read no evidence of waterfowl.
Perhaps the Borg could use a little help. Observed Spock.
    Weapons status? Picard asked Worf.
Phasars and photon torpedoes ready. The Klingon replied.
Picard to all Federation vessels, the captain said, motioning to Worf to open channels, all ships engage the unknown fleet! Spare no effort; the fate of the Earth is in our hands!
The rag-tag formation of Starfleet ships, freighters, science vessels, passenger liners and service vehicles formed a cone with the Enterprise at its point and dove into the infernal maelstrom that surrounded the Earth!
