| Dragon Species: Reptilian Mammal Size: 8-10 foot Weight: 800-1200 lbs Appearance: The dragon comes in many different colors and patterns, except in the case of neon colors. The coloring seems to happen randomly with no evidence of genetic inheritance from parents. The males are ususally darker in shades than the females. The dragon has a leathery appearance, both up close and at a distance. The animals coat is accually very smooth and taunt around bone and muscle. The smoothness alllows the animal to fly quicker and smoother than most birds. It sheds it's skin 5-8 times a year. This skin canbe reused if cured before it begins to rot, only one thing is strange when the skin is shed, the skin is not patterned. It turns a dark color usually brown or dull green. Habitat: Orginally living on the coasts, the dragons were only half the size of those today. As the animals evolved, they left their coastal homes and settled along the Adok Mountains. They now migrate from the mountains in the winter and settle near the desert. The Adok's serve as the location for hatchlings to be born and develope. Food: The dragon is an omnivore.Their main source for meat is fish, but they can eat anything up to the size of a cow. They prefer meat to be very fresh and will not eat prey after 5 hours. If the dragon kills a large prey they will eat it all at once and may go as long as 3days before eating again.A dragon could live on plants, but disdain even trying. The plants they do eat include, wheat, grass, oak and pine bark, and apples. No other types of fruit because it is too sweet. Use: The dragon is used for protection, transportation, and friendship. Attitude: As an untamed hatchling the dragonis fierce, aggresive, and dangerous. As it grows and is trained the dragon becomes loyal and willful, but totally trustworthy. History: The dragons have been on this planet since long before humans came here.To begin with all were wild and migrated from the desert in spring to the Adok Mountains. In the late autumn they migrated back to the desert. Close to half a century ago warriors had annual hunts of the creatures. One right after hatchlings were coming out of their caves and when the dragons were migrating to the Adok Mountains. Killing a dragon is seen as a sign of one's bravery and daring. Since that time though the dragons have been seen for their worth and are used by warriors and scientists. There are sadly not enough dragons for every individual to have a dragon and probably will not be for a long time. Other Information: Capture and training of a dragon is alot of work. No dragons have ever been successfully been bred in captivity. Being domesticated seems to make them very different from those that are wild. All dragons are born in the wilds of the Adok Mountains. To begin with the dragons hatch in a set of sealed caves. The caves are sealled by female dragons to help keep the eggs warm and allow them to mature. The hatchlings eat their egg shell for their first meal. It gives the strength needed to dig and claw their way out of the caves. When the cave in unsealed the hatchlings are tired and hungry. Most hatchlings are unable to find food outside the cave. And half used to die after a few days.Nowadays, a group of dragon trainers go to the mountains and wait with drugged food at the enterances to the sealed caves. The locations of these caves are kept secret to protect the dragons from poachers or people who would steal them for unjust puposes. The trainers come back every few hours to check the cave enterances. If the hatchlings are out and have eaten the food, the real work begins. The trainers look over the hatchlings and either label them male or female. They take only half the hatchlings from each cave to ensure some will fly to the desert and return the next year to mate themselves. The average cave holds about 7-10 hatchlings and there are usually 8-10 caves. This leads to a maximum of 50 hatchlings/ minimum 30. The trainers take the hatchlings picked to a stronghold called Dragonia. There they are domesticated and trained. The dragon is trained for about 5 monthes. When the dragon is big enough it is given to a dragonrider of its choice to be fintuned in it's training and skills. The dragons are used to explore other worlds through the sky portals. They have two natural abilities, thses include the ability to teleport short distances when in trouble and they can talk to all people and other dragons mentally. |
