I started listening to my parents records when I was about 5. It was a way for them to keep me busy. Most of my first experiences with music were with country musicians such as David Allen Coe, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson. Then I dug a little deeper in their records and found the Doobie Brothers, Three Dog Night, The Who, The Woodstock Concert Album. Until Finally I found my favorite, Chuck Berry. He is still one of my Idols today. My parents bought me cheap guitars and drums and I just kinda played around. It wasn't until I was about 12 when music really hit me. My Uncle John came to stay in the summer and introduced me to the music that made me say "That's what I want to do and play." The bands were Van Halen, AC/DC, Judas Priest and the best for last "OZZY". My Uncle had an electric guitar and amp and would show me simple songs to play. The first song I learned was Iron Man. Then the next experience that catapulted me into music was my Uncle John took me to my first concert when I was about 13. It was Nazereth. Seeing live people behind the loud music really put me in awe. Thru the 80's I really got into the Hairbands, even had my hair long and teased. Then something awful happened. Nirvana came out and took all the fun and enjoyment out of rock n roll and made it sad and painful. So in the early 90s I started listening to country again. Now, most of my original music is like a big bowl of salad. All my influences tossed together. A little Chuck Berry, a little Zack Wylde, some Merle Haggard, then sprinkled with some AC/DC for fun. But if I had any one person to thank and attribute me being a musician to, it would be my Uncle. He brought the experiece to me. So have fun, enjoy the music, and hope to see you at a show. |
