2009 Rules of Play
1.
The Monday Night
Golf League will play United States Golf Association (USGA) Rules, except for
the local rules listed below.
A. A ball
lying in its own "fairway" may be "rolled", not more than
one club length, to provide a preferred lie, not nearer the hole.
B. Anywhere
"through the green", a ball which is embedded in its own pitch mark
in the ground, may be lifted, cleaned and dropped without penalty, as
near as possible to the spot where it originally lay but not nearer the hole.
C. The
Monday Night Golf League shall play matches from the following tees: Flights
A,B,C from the blue tees and Flights D, E from the white tees all season.
The league
committee encourages all players to utilize Rule 27-2, Provisional Ball,
anytime the player believes that his ball in play may be lost or out of
bounds.
2. The
League will consist of 10 teams. Teams
will be redrawn each year based on player’s averages from the previous year.
New players will be flighted as closely as possible to their playing
ability. All players will remain within
the flight they are placed for the duration of the year, unless it is decided
by the committee to re-align. Teams will
be composed of five (5) players, classified by flights, "A”, “B",
"C", "D", and "E". All flights will play straight up, no
handicapping.
3. Dues
for each member of the League will be Thirty-Five
Dollars ($35.00) for the season.
Dues are payable no later than April 20, 2009. All dues are non-refundable.
4. All league
matches must be played by league night.
If you are unable to play on league night, you may play your match prior
to Monday if your opponent agrees and you must play head to head. Matching of scorecards is prohibited. You must sign, date and turn in your
scorecard for matches played early at the pro shop. There is no limitations to
how early you play your match as long as it is played no later than the
scheduled Monday night.
5. Each
team will have a captain, to be determined by the team. In the event that a player(s) is unable to
play his regularly scheduled league match (non-playoff match) a substitute may
be made from the sub list. Each player,
or the team captain, will be responsible for obtaining an appropriate substitute
from the sub list (player’s flight or lower may be used. For example, a C Flight player may choose a C
flight sub or a D or E Flight sub). Only players from the sub list, or players
who have been determined eligible by a member of the Rules Committee, are
eligible to substitute equal to or higher than their designated flight. Neither subs nor the combining of teams will
be permitted during league scrambles.
All ties in league scrambles will be broken by reverse order on the
scorecard. In the event that a player(s) is unable to play his regularly
scheduled league match (non-playoff match), and no substitute shows, a ghost
round will posted. All ties in league
scrambles will be broken by reverse order on the scorecard.
6. Ghost rounds will be posted for any player
unable to play his regularly scheduled league match (not applicable in
playoffs), and no substitute shows. A
ghost round will be posted from the median flight score that day. If two scores
represent the median, one will be randomly drawn from the two to represent that
flight’s ghost round. The absent player will not receive two (2) attendance
points and forfeit the total (medal) point.
The remaining three (3) points will be awarded by the INDIVIDUAL SCORING
procedure with the absent player receiving whatever points the ghost player
earns in the match. If both players are absent, and not subs show, no points
will be awarded.
7. In the
event a league member is absent three (3) matches during league season, the
League Officers may declare such player ineligible for further play. The League Officers may assign another player
in his place on the team or allow a ghost round to complete the year.
8. Matches
will be scheduled for tee-off from 4:30 p.m. through 5:45 p.m. IF YOU
ARE GOING TO BE LATER THAN 5:15pm, PLEASE CALL CLUB HOUSE AND/OR YOUR
OPPONENT. No forfeits will occur
prior to 5:45 p.m. on league night; the starter house clock will rule. Since all matches must be played with at
least one other league member, any player whose opponent has not shown should go
off with the last group. If the opponent
shows, prior to 5:45 p.m., the player will return to the first tee to begin the
match.
9. Regularly
scheduled league matches must be played on the scheduled nine holes as
indicated by the league schedule. No "mulligans"
will be permitted during league play.
10. In case of inclement weather, the
decision to suspend play will be the responsibility of the club staff. The club staff’'s decision will stand. One makeup day is scheduled at the end of the
first half, if needed.
11. Each
member’s league averages will be computed and posted weekly on the bulletin
board in the pro shop and on our web page:
www.geocities.com/mondayelks
12. A score
sheet shall be provided each week and shall be placed in a conspicuous place
for the recording of scores and points for each match. A signed scorecard by each player must be
turned into the league secretary or deposited at the score sheet provided. At least one player should record the
score(s) and points on the score sheet provided. However, it is each player's responsibility
to see that his score is recorded properly.
Once a score has been posted, it will not be changed. CHECK YOUR SCORECARD BEFORE IT IS SIGNED
AND RECORDED. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR SCORECARD IS; (1) CORRECT, (2) SIGNED BY
EACH PLAYER, (3) TURNED IN AT THE SCORE SHEET AND (4) POSTED ON THE SCORE
SHEET.
13. INDIVIDUAL SCORING
A. If neither opponent is in attendance, no
points will be awarded.
B. Each
member in attendance who COMPLETES his round will receive two- (2) show up
points.
C. Absent
golfers receive no show up points and forfeit total (medal) point but may earn
points from the ghost round in that flight.
D. A
player will win, lose or tie a point for each three holes played. A fourth point may be won, lost or tied for
medal score for the nine-hole match.
E. If your
opponent (or sub) does not show by 5:45 p.m., you MUST play with a league
member (or approved player) to validate your round. Your scores will be match
against your flight’s ghost round (the median round in your flight that night)
to earn the remaining 4 points.
F. All
points are awarded at the completion of the round. If the round is not
completed, no points are awarded.
14. TEAM SCORING
A. Each team will play eighteen (18)
matches.
B. Nine (9)
matches will comprise the first half of play. The team with the most
accumulated points at the completion of these eleven matches shall be the
winner of the first half of play.
C. Nine (9)
matches will comprise the second half of play. The team with the most
accumulated points at the completion of these eleven matches will be the winner
for the second half of play. .
15. PLAYOFF
All playoff
matches will be played on the BACK NINE, unless otherwise determined by the
committee. If at the end of any playoff
match there is a tie the following procedure will apply:
1. A
three-hole tiebreaker will be played starting on the sixteenth hole and ending
on the eighteenth hole. This tiebreaker
will be played for the point. The team
with highest point total at the conclusion of the three-hole tiebreaker shall
be the winner of the match.
2. If a
tie still exists, the team with the lowest stroke total for the three-hole
tiebreaker shall be declared the winner of the match.
3. If a tie exists after Playoff rule 1
and 2, start with Playoff Rule 1 again until the tie is broken.
Should two teams
tie for winner of either half of play, these two teams must play a nine-hole
playoff match under normal rules of league play to determine the winner. The tie breaker procedure outlined above will
apply should any tie exist at the conclusion of the match.
16. PLAY DAY
A play day will be held on Monday, April
6, 2009 with the format to be determined at that time. June 22, 2009 is scheduled for a first half
make-up day. If it is not needed, it
will be an open night that players can play second half matches early if they
choose.
17. USE OF DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES
During Monday Night League matches, players
may use devices that measure or gauge distance only. However, the use of a
distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions
that might affect a player's play (e.g. gradient, wind speed, temperature, etc)
is not permitted regardless of whether such an additional function is used.
(adopted 4/2008).
