| Allosaurus was the main meat-eating dinosaur of the late Juraasic in North America. It may well have fed on such well known dinosaurus as Apatosaurus, Stegosaurus and Dryosaurus. Allosaurus prbably found Apatosaurus too big to kill, but allosaurus may have fed on its dead body because an Apatosaurus skeleton has been found with Allosaurus thoot marks on some tail bones. The first specimen of Allosaurus to be found was a sigle broken tail bone discovered in Colorado in 1869. Of course, this was not enough to reconstruct the whole animal! Some more bits and pieces were found in 1877, and these were then named.Anearly complete skeleton, collected between 1883 and 1884, was called Antrodemus in 1920 but was later shown to be the same as Allosaurus.Allosaurus was 40 ft (12m)long and 16 ft (4m) height it was one of the biggest meat-eaters. |
