| Albertosaurus (sometimes called gorgosaurus) also lived right at the end of the age of the dinosaurs. dozens of bones and skeletons of Alberosaurus have been collected over the past hundrd years, and these have often been given different names. One example of this small skeleton which was found in 1923. It was first called Gorgosaurus because it seemed very different from Albertosaurus. The body seemed slimmer, and the head was lighter. It has now been shown that this was a juvenile Albertosaurus, and that as the animal grew up it became heavier and stronger. This shows how careful paleontologists have to be when trying to name fossils! |
