The Lady Chiefs lose another close game, this time in the 9th inning. Megan Williams allowed just 2 hits while striking out 14 and walking 6. The Lady Chiefs scattered 5 hits, highlighted by Jessie Gorham's double. Adding to the Lady Chiefs batting woes were the 9 runners left on base. Unfortunately, Prince George scores their winning run after a hotly disputed "safe" call at 3rd base following a pick-off attempt. The following base hit allows that runner to score, ending the game.

L.C. BIRD
L 3-0
Another disappointing district loss, this time to Bird, has put the Lady Chiefs in a difficult position in the standings to earn a playoff spot. While the defense has been near perfect in every game, the batting troubles continue to haunt the players. Only 2 hits in this game -Beadles and Bertovich both had lead-off hits but were stranded on base. Bird started off the 6th inning with a solo homer and followed it with 3 walks and 2 additional hits to score 3 runs to secure the win.

Jordan Beadles went 2-3, 2 RBI; Tori Linville 3-4, triple, 2 RBI; Lauren Gooden 2-3, two doubles, 2 RBI; and Brianna Bertovich 2-4 were the hitting leaders for the game. Megan Williams continues to impress allowing only 3 hits and striking out 10 in this mercy-rule game. Line score and highlights from the Richmond Times-Dispatch not available on-line.

Huguenot
W 17-0
Despite Huguenot's best efforts, Tori Linville pitched a perfect game allowing no hits, walks or base runners while striking out 11 in this mercy-rule shortened game. Kudos to the infield for playing an error free game. Ashley Duncan led the hitting with a 3-3, 4 RBI day while Jordan Beadles and Brianna Bertovich both had 2 hits apiece. The Lady Chiefs took advantage of numerous Huguenot errors for the win.

JAMES RIVER
L 9-3
A cold, rainy, and miserable day only added to the Lady Chiefs troubles during this district game. Tori Linville allowed 5 runs on 6 hits in the first 2 innings which was too big of a deficit from which to recover. A valiant effort in the six inning yielded 2 runs but runners were stranded on 2nd and 3rd at innings end. Brianna Bertovich leads the team hitting going 2-3, 2 RBI and Tori Linville went 1-2, RBI and scores.

Cosby
L 2-1
Arguably the most exciting game played this season. A true pitching duel between Megan Williams and Cosby's Whitney Haller with both allowing only 3 hits. The international tie break rule put Tori Linville on 2nd base to start the 10th inning, she stole 3rd base, and then scored on a hit to right field by Brianna Bertovich. Cosby's half of the 10th also started with a runner on 2nd base, bunted over to 3rd, and then a triple to score the baserunner, followed by a throwing error to score the batter to end the game. This is now the fourth district game that the Lady Chiefs have lost by only one run.
Monacan ------------------------- 000 000 000 1 - 1 2 1
Cosby ----------------------------- 000 000 000 2 - 2 4 0

Highlights: Bertovich 1-4, RBI.

Midlothian
L 4-3
The 5th inning in this district loss will go down in history as the one in which everything, yet nothing, went our way! Senoir Lauren Staten started the inning with a walk and the next eight Lady Chiefs managed to score 3 runs on no hits. Timely walks and Midlothian errors gave us hope for a huge upset over the district leaders. Alas, Midlo came back in the bottom of the 5th to score 3 runs on 2 hits and slew of fielder choice plays, essentially giving Midlo 5 outs for the inning. Midlo scores their winning run in the 6th on a lead-off walk and then scores on an error Brianna Bertovich continues to be the hitting machine for the Lady Chiefs with 2 hits today.
Monacan --------------------------- 000 030 0 - 3 2 1

Brianna Bertovich, Lauren Staton, Ashley Duncan, all single and Jordan Beadles hits a 2 RBI double to left center. Megan Williams pitches a top-notch game allowing only 3 hits and no walks. The Chiefs were unable to get anything going in the top of the first, sending only three batters to the plate, while the Blue Devils were able to score one run in their half of the inning to grab a 1-0 lead. Kelly Gibson led off the second with a base hit to center for Monacan, but she was forced out at second on Jessica Cherenzias fielders choice two batters later and Cherenzia was then stranded at first as the inning ended. Varina put five more runs on the board in the bottom of the second to take a commanding 6-0 advantage. In the third, Jessica Sears delivered a one out single, but she too was left on base as the Chiefs couldnt provide any additional offense in the inning. In the fourth, Gibson lead off with a walk, went to second when Cherenzia walked, but was then forced at third on a ground ball to short as the Chiefs comeback attempt was thwarted by the Blue Devils with the Chiefs leaving two runners on base at the end of inning. Kim Keith added another one out single in the top of the fifth. Mandy Hopkins pitched the first two innings for Monacan, and took the loss; she was relieved at the start of the third by Christi Caputo.
Pitching: Hopkins 2 innings, 6 runs(R), 5 hits(H), 1 strikeout(SO), 3 walks(W); Caputo 2 innings, 4 R; 1 H; 2 SO; 2 W; 1 hit batter(HBP).

In the third, the Chiefs tied the game at 1 when Jessica Sears singled and came around to score on a passed ball. Bird added a second run in their half of the fourth on 2 hits but the Chiefs answered in the home half of the inning when Carter Snavely, Kelly Gibson, Kim Keith, and Mandy Hopkins worked four consecutive walks off the Skyhawks pitcher. Bird retook the lead scoring one run in the fifth on 2 hits. Monacan again knotted the score in the bottom of the sixth when Keith and Hopkins walked, and Deanna Bailey stroked an RBI single to right center. Although the Skyhawks reclaimed the lead in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs on two hits, including a double, the Chiefs refused to surrender. Sears led off the Chiefs last at bat with a walk, but was doubled off at first when Kristen Scampoli smacked a hard line drive to the Skyhawks third baseman. Erin Walsh led off the second with a double down the left field line and six Monacan hitters (Carter Snavely, Cherenzia, Gibson, Mandy Hopkins, Jessica Denomme, and Jessica Sears) added singles as the Chiefs pushed four runs across the plate in the inning. The Monacan defense again held in the bottom of the second as the Cavaliers left two runners on base when the inning ended. L 17-11
Three Monacan batters drew walks in the top of the first, but all were stranded as the Chiefs could not garner any additional offense. The Monarchs took advantage of two infield singles, two bloop fly singles to the short outfield, and a walk in the home half of the inning to grab a four run lead after one. Both teams went three up, three down in the second. The Chiefs again stranded three base runners in the third. In the bottom of the inning, Meadowbrook added five runs to take a 9-0 lead. The third inning ended on a Monacan triple play when, with the bases loaded, the Monarchs batter hit a lazy fly ball to short and the runners on third and second left their bases without taggingthe shortstop flipped the ball to the third baseman who stepped on the bag and then tagged the runner from second. Monacan erupted for nine runs, to tie the game, in the top of the fourth on three singles from Christi Caputo, Rachel Guglielmo, and Jessica Sears, four walks and three Meadowbrook errors. The Monarchs retook the lead with a run in the bottom of fourth on a lead off single, a walk and a passed ball.
