13 MATOACA W 13-5 Monacan starts slowly in their first game of the season as they spot Matoaca 2 runs in the first, 2 runs in the second, and a run in the third to fall behind 5 to 0. The Chiefs get their offensive game going in the bottom of the third as they explode for 12 runs, sending 17 batters to the plate, to blow the game open. Amanda White leads the Chiefs with the big hit in the third, hitting a bases loaded, base-clearing double. Matoaca cannot mount a charge as the Chiefs hold them scoreless over the last three innings. Monacan adds one run in the bottom of the fifth before the game is called for darkness.
    Pitching: Hopkins 1 inning, 2 SO, 2ER; Redfearn 2 innings, 3SO, 3ER, Win; Williams 2 innings, 4SO, 0ER, Save.
    Offense: White, 3 RBIs; Denton, 3-4, 2 RBIs; Cherenzia, 1-4, 2 RBIs; Gibson, 2-3, 1 RBI; Redfearn, 1-1; Carter, 1-2; Novikoff, 1-4.
16 DINWIDDIE W 5-0 Monacan pulls out a hard fought win with good pitching, solid defense, and good execution of the fundamentals. Taylor Redfearn and Megan Williams combine to hold Dinwiddie to just one hit as Monacan wins its second game of the young season. Dinwiddie holds the Chiefs to only three hits, but Monacan takes advantage of every opportunity, pushing three runs across the plate in the third and two more in the sixth with aggressive, smart base running and timely hits.
Pitching: Redfearn, 3 innings, 3 SO, 0 ER, Win; Williams, 4 innings, 10 SO, 0 ER, Save.
Offense: Walsh 1-1, 1 RBI; White 1-2; Cherenzia 1-3; Carter 2 RBIs; Redfearn 1 RBI.
20 at THOMAS DALE W 7-5 The Chiefs spot Thomas Dale a two run lead in the bottom of the first, but then score three runs in the top of the second and are never challenged thereafter. Monacan adds a run to its lead in the third and puts three more on the board in the fourth on Jessie Gorhams three run home run. In the bottom of the fifth, Thomas Dale makes a final futile attempt to get back in the game as they too hit a three run homer. Megan Williams, who came in the fifth to relieve Taylor Redfearn, shuts down Thomas Dale in the bottom of the sixth to preserve the win.
    Pitching: Redfearn 4 1/3 innings, 4 runs, 2 hits, 5 SOs, Win; Williams 1 2/3 innings, 1 run, 1 hit, 5 SOs, Save.
Offense: Gorham 2-4, Dbl & HR, 3 RBIs; Denton 2-3, RBI; Carter 1-3, RBI; White 1-3; Novikoff 1-4.

23 at Matoaca W 12-5 The Chiefs allow Matoaca two runs in the bottom of the first, but then score two runs in each of the next three innings to take a 6-2 lead. Matoaca pushes two more runs across in their half of the fourth, and the Chiefs answer with another run in the top of the fifth. In the top of the seventh, Monacan blows the game open scoring five runs to take a 12-4 lead into the home half of the last inning. Matoaca is only able to score one more run as Monacan takes the win. Mandy Hopkins leads the Chiefs with four RBIs on two hits. Megan Williams pitches the first three innings and the last three innings, as Taylor Redfearn pitches the fourth.
    Pitching: Williams 6 innings, 3 runs, 2 hits, 16 SOs; Redfearn 1 inning, 2 runs, 0 hits, 1 SO.
    Offense: Hopkins 2-2, 4 RBIs; Gorham 1-4, 1 RBI; White 1-3, 1 RBI; Gibson 1-2, 1 RBI; Denton 2-4; Redfearn 1-2; Carter 1-2.
24 VARINA L 4-0 The Chiefs can not get their offense going, garnering only three hits. The Blue Devils score 2 unearned runs in the top of the first on some untimely Monacan errors, and push two more unearned runs across the plate in the top of the third to grab the win.
    Pitching: Redfearn 3 2/3 innings, 4 runs, 4 hits, 5 SOs; Williams 3 1/3 innings, 0 runs, 2 hits, 8 SOs.
    Offense: Cherenzia 1-3; Gorham 1-3; Novikoff 1-3.
27 at Powhatan L 12-0 Powhatan proves to be too much for the struggling Chiefs as the Indian's pitcher tosses a no-hit shut out, allowing no base runners.
    Pitching: Williams 4 innings, 8 runs, 6 hits, 5 SOs; Hopkins 2 innings, 4 runs, 4 hits, 3 SOs.
    Offense:
30 MANCHESTER L 4-2 The Chiefs fall short in their first District match-up of the season. Monacan allows the Lancers to score one unearned run in the top of the first, another in the third, and two more in the fifth. Although Monacan cant mount any real comeback, the Chiefs are able to get on the scoreboard pushing one run across the plate in the bottom of the sixth, and then adding another in the seventh.
    Pitching: Redfearn 3 innings, 2 Runs, 3 Hits, 3 SOs; Williams 4 innings, 2 Runs, 1 Hit, 4 SOs.
    Offense: White 2-3, 2 DBLs; Redfearn 1-3, 1 RBI; Guglielmo 1 RBI; Williams 2-3; Keith 1-1; Novikoff 1-2.

4 at Midlothian L 2-1 The Trojans are able to score one unearned run in the bottom of the first, but the Chiefs defense stiffens behind the strong pitching of Taylor Redfearn and Megan Williams, who only allow one hit apiece, to hold Midlo scoreless over the next four innings. Midlo is able to push a second unearned run across the plate in the bottom of the sixth to take a 2-0 lead. However, Monacan refuses to fold as pinch-hitter Khalie Carter delivers a leadoff triple in the top of the seventh and Rachel Guglielmo (pinch running) scores on Amanda Whites RBI fly-out to center to cut the Trojans lead in half. The Trojans stifle the come back and hold on for the one-run victory.
    Pitching: Redfearn 3 innings, 1 Run, 1 Hits, 1 SO; Williams 3 innings, 1 Run, 1 Hit, 7 SOs.
Offense: Carter 1-1, triple; White 1-2, RBI.
6 JAMES RIVER W 8-4 Monacan spots the Rapids 4 runs in the top of the second; but the Chiefs cut the James River lead in half in the bottom of the inning. Monacan adds another run in the bottom of the fourth before blowing the game open with 5 runs in the home half of the fifth. The big blast in the fifth comes off the bat of Jessie Gorham who laces a single to right center that scored two runs. Megan Williams comes on with two outs in the top of the second and holds the Rapids scoreless to get the win.
    Pitching: Hopkins 1 2/3 innings, 4 runs, 3 hits, 1 SO; Williams 5 1/3 innings, 0 runs, 1 hit, 12 SOs.
    Offense: Carter 3-3; Novikoff 2-2; Gibson 1-2, 1 RBI; Gorham 1-3, 2 RBIs; Denton 1-4, 1 RBI; Walsh 1-2; Mavilia 1 RBI.
18 at L.C. Bird L 2-1 Monacan jumps to a one run lead in the top of the second when, with one out, Jessie Gorham singles, moves to second on Kelly Gibsons sacrifice bunt, and scores on Jessie Cherenzias single to left center. With two outs in the bottom of the third, Bird ties the game on two singles and a Monacan error; then takes the lead with two outs in the bottom of the fourth on a walk, a stolen base, a Monacan error, and a single. The Chiefs could not take advantage of their numerous opportunities to blow the game open and put the Skyhawks away. Monacan strands 15 runners leaving the bases loaded in four of the seven innings.
    Pitching: Hopkins 2 2/3 innings; 1 run; 3 hits; 1 SO; Williams 3 1/3 innings; 1 run; 2 hits; 8 SOs.
    Offense: Cherenzia 2-5, RBI; Novikoff 2-2; Walsh 2-3; Denton 2-4; Gorham 2-4; White 1-2.
20 CLOVER HILL L 5-2 The Chiefs jump on top of Clover Hill in the bottom of the first, scoring one run on Amanda Whites RBI ground out to third; but the Cavaliers storm back to score three runs in the top of the second. Monacan adds one more run in the bottom of the second on Jessie Gorhams RBI single to left; but can't push any more runs across the plate as the offense stalls. Clover Hill adds two more runs in the sixth to take the District match up.
    Pitching: Hopkins 1 1/3 innings, 3 runs, 3 hits, 1 SO; Williams 5 2/3 innings, 2 runs, 3 hits, 11 SOs.
Offense: Gorham 2-2, RBI; White 1-3, RBI; Gibson 1-2.
21 at Dinwiddie W 5-3 The start of the game is delayed due to rain, lightning, and thunder, but despite the elements the Lady Generals jump to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Monacan ties the game in the top of the second, but Dinwiddie adds a run in the home half of the third to regain the lead 2-1. Both teams score single runs in the fourth. However, the Chiefs refuse to give up. As the rain again starts to fall in the top half of the seventh, Monacans first three batters walk to load the bases. Amanda White then strokes a single to right that scores two runs; with the third run of the inning coming home on a wild pitch. Megan Williams, pitches a complete game to get the win, striking out the last Dinwiddie batter to preserve the Monacan comeback victory.
Pitching: Williams 7 innings, complete game, 3 runs, 3 hits, 10 SOs.
    Offense: White 3-4, 3 RBIs; Redfearn 2-3; Denton 1-2; Novikoff 1-3; Guglielmo 1-4.
24 POWHATAN L 3-0 Neither team can mount an offensive threat for the first five innings as both pitchers dominate. In the top of the sixth, the Indians take full advantage of some unfortunate Monacan miscues scoring 3 runs on just one hit. The Chiefs get their first hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth, but the runner is thrown out at third while trying to take two bases on a sacrifice bunt. With two out, Monacan adds a second hit in the bottom of the seventh, but the runner is stranded.
Pitching: Williams 7 innings, 3 runs, 1 hit, 15 SOs.
    Offense: Gibson 1-2; Denton 1-3.
27 HUGUENOT W 15-0 Maria Novikoff leads off the Chiefs half of the first inning with a base hit and scores on Mandy Hopkins RBI single and the Chiefs never look back. Monacan is never challenged by the overmatched Falcons as the Chiefs add six runs in the home half of the second inning, three runs in the third, two runs in the fourth, one run in the fifth, and two runs in the sixth to easily take the lopsided win.
    Pitching: Redfearn 2 innings, 0 runs, 0 hits, 4 SOs; Hopkins 4 innings, 0 runs, 3 hits, 9 SOs.
Offense: Novikoff 1-2; Gorham 1-2, double, RBI; White 2-2, double, 3 RBIs; Gibson 2-2; Guglielmo 1-1; Hopkins 2-3, double, 2 RBIs; Keith 2-3, RBI; Mavilia 1-3; Carter 2-3; Walsh 1-2, RBI; Bookman 3-3, 2 RBIs; Williams RBI.

2 at Manchester W 8-7 The Lancers get their offense started early, scoring one run in both the first and second innings, and then adding 4 more in the third, to take a big 6-0 lead after three. But the never give up Chiefs finally get going in the top of the fifth, putting three runs on the board to cut Manchesters lead in half. Monacan adds three more runs in the sixth to tie the game at six. The game remains knotted until the eighth inning, when Jessie Gorham leads off the Chiefs half of the inning with a bloop single to left. Taylor Redfearn lays down a perfect bunt just in front of the plate, as Gorham advances to third on an errant throw to first; she then scores when the Lancer first baseman boots Amanda Whites grounder. Megan Williams, who comes on in relief of Redfearn in the bottom of the third, pitches a perfect eighth to preserve the comeback win in the Chiefs first extra inning game of the season.
    Pitching: Redfearn 2 2/3 innings, 6 runs, 2 hits, 5 SOs; Williams 5 1/3 innings, 0 runs, 2 hits, 9 SOs.
Offense: Novikoff 3-5, RBI; Redfearn 2-4; White 1-4, 2 RBIs, double; Hopkins 1-5, RBI; Denton 1-2; Carter 2-3; Gorham 3-4; Mavilia 1-3, RBI.
4 MIDLOTHIAN L 4-2 The Chiefs find themselves playing from behind again, as the Trojans jump on Monacan early, scoring one run in the top of the first and three in the second. The Midlo pitcher holds the Monacan batters at bay until the fourth, when Amanda White leads off the inning with a single, and scores on Amanda Dentons triple. Denton is able to score when Erin Walsh hits a fly ball to shallow center, which is caught, and the throw to the plate sails high over the catchers head and goes to the screen. The Chiefs cannot muster any more runs as the comeback bid fails. Megan Williams comes on in relief in the second and pitches 5 1/3 scoreless innings to keep Monacan in the game.
    Pitching: Redfearn 1 2/3 innings, 4 runs, 4 hits, 2 SOs; Williams 5 1/3 innings, 0 runs, 2 hits, 7 SOs.
Offense: White 3-3; Denton 1-3, triple, RBI; Walsh RBI.
9 at James River W 8-7 James River grabs the lead in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs; the Chiefs cut the Rapids lead in half in the top of the second. James River adds two more runs in the bottom of the second and Monacan scores one in the top of the third to give the Rapids a 4-2 lead after three. The Chiefs take full advantage of some James River miscues in the top of the fourth, scoring 3 runs to take a slim 5-4 lead. The Rapids score two in their half of the inning to re-gain the lead 6-5 after four. In the sixth, Monacan pushes three more across the plate to jump to an 8-6 advantage; but James River cuts the Chiefs lead to one in the bottom of the sixth. Monacan is held scoreless in the seventh, taking their one run edge to the bottom of the inning. Megan Williams, who got stronger as the game went on, strikes out the side as the Chiefs hold on for the District win.
Pitching: Williams 7 innings, 7 runs, 10 hits, 15 SOs.
Offense: White 1-5; Redfearn 1-2; Guglielmo 1-3; Denton 1-5; Walsh 1-2, RBI; Carter 2-3, RBI; Bookman 1-2, RBI; Mavilia 1-2, 2 RBIs; Gibson 1-3, RBI.
11 L.C. BIRD W 6-4 Bird jumps on the Chiefs early, scoring three runs in the top of the first. Monacan scores one in the bottom of the first and another in the third to cut the Skyhawks lead to one. Bird adds another run in the fourth to go up 4-2, but the Chiefs push two across the plate in their half of the fourth to knot the game at four. Monacan then adds two more runs in the home half of the fifth to take their first lead of the game, 6-4. The Chiefs pitching and defense stiffen, holding Bird scoreless in the last three innings capped by Amanda Dentons outstanding shoe-string catch in right field to grab a hard fought District win.
Pitching: Williams 7 innings, 4 runs, 3 hits, 9 SOs.
Offense: White 1-3; Redfearn 1-1; Denton 1-4; Walsh 1-3, RBI; Carter 1-2; Bookman 1-1; Cherenzia 1-2, RBI; Gibson 1-3; Hopkins RBI.
16 Clover Hill L 5-4 In the bottom of the first, Clover Hill puts the first run of the game on the scoreboard in this, the Chiefs last District match-up. The Cavaliers add another run in the second, but Monacan storms back posting three runs in the top of the third to take a 3-2 advantage. In the fourth, Clover Hill adds three runs of their own on some untimely Monacan errors, to regain the lead at 5-3. The Chiefs can only muster, in the fifth inning, one more run in their last three at-bats as they fall to the Cavaliers for the second time this season.
Pitching: Williams 6 innings, 5 runs, 3 hits, 6 SOs.
Offense: White 3-4; Denton 2-3, RBI; Hopkins 1-4, RBI; Walsh 1-2, RBI; Cherenzia 1-2; Gibson 1-3.
18 at Atlee W 3-0 Make-up game from March 21st. Both teams pitchers start strong holding their opponent scoreless through two innings. In the third, the Chiefs take advantage of some timely hitting and smart base running to push a run across the plate to take a precarious 1-0 lead. In the fifth, Monacan is able to take advantage of another opportunity to score a second run; and then adds a third in the sixth. Megan Williams pitches seven strong innings allowing only one hit and Erin Walsh leads the offense with a double.
Pitching: Williams 7 innings, 0 runs, 1 hit, 13 SOs.
Offense: White 2-4; Redfearn 2-3, RBI; Denton 3-4, RBI; Carter 1-2; Mavilia 1-3; Walsh 1-2, DBL; Gibson RBI.
