Prince George Invitational Tournament
W 2-1
First Round: Chiefs start the season on a winning note with a victory over a solid Freeman side and advance to the tournament final. Freeman creates the better scoring opportunities during regulation, but Chiefs send the match to overtime thanks to numerous spectacular saves by keeper Justin Burnett. Cheatham opens the scoring for Monacan in the 19th minute as he collects a ball 30 yards from goal and maneuvers to finish from the top of the penalty area. Freeman draws level midway through the second half on a header off of a long throw-in. The run of play is fairly even in the 4 overtime periods. Finally, in the 4th overtime and 98 minutes into the match, Horner converts a penalty kick for the victory.

Finals: Chiefs come up short in the Prince George invitational championship game. The match is much closer than the final score would indicate as the run of play was fairly even throughout. Maggie Walker gets its first goal 16 minutes into the second half on a wicked deflection off of a free kick that leaves keeper Justin Burnett with no chance. The final two goals are into an open net the last minute of the match as the Chiefs push everyone forward in search of a goal.

L.C. Bird
W 2-1
Chiefs get off to a good start in the Dominion District with a victory over L.C. Bird. Monacan dominates possession and scoring opportunities throughout the match but has difficulty finishing on a narrow bumpy pitch. Finally in the 43rd minute Golob's shot is handled by a Bird defender in the area and he proceeds to convert from the penalty spot. In the 69th minute, Johnson sends a wanting ball forward that finds a streaking T.J. Byrd who finishes nicely to the far post. L.C. Bird converts a counter attack three minutes from full time to deny the clean sheet. Logan Stykemain stands out in central defense for the Chiefs.

HUGUENOT
W 1-0
Ross Danzeisen rescues Chiefs by heading in a Matt Golob corner in the 72nd minute of this match. Prior to that, Chiefs control possession but their finishing is an exercise in futility as they shoot straight at the Huguenot keeper (20 saves), fire wide and high on multiple attempts, have a goal disallowed for obstruction and blow a penalty kick over the bar. Credit to Huguenot as they are a much improved side from previous years both in terms of tactics and technical ability.

In the middle of the second half, Clover Hill dominates play for a 15 minute stretch with lots of possession and quick accurate passing. Their goals come from close range in the 56th and 59th minutes. Chiefs regroup and pull one back in stoppage time as Hunter Cheatham plays a ball across the area to Patrick Glynn who touches past his defender to score from 8 yards.

Chiefs lose heartbreaker in the 2nd overtime after giving a great team effort in this match. First 10 minutes sees Chiefs with possession advantage but Lancers keep numbers behind the ball preventing any serious threat. Lancers create two excellent chances in the 9th and 13th minutes as sloppy play in the Chiefs defense requires Robertson to make two stellar breakaway saves. After the first save, Rash clears a certain Lancer goal off the line on a corner play. Chiefs then begin to create chances and score in the 33rd minute as Byrd finishes a perfect set up from Cheatham. After the break, Chiefs continue to create chances. Golob finishes from close range after a run through the right defense in the 47th minute. Glynn closes the scoring for the Chiefs on a similar run and finishes from 10 yards in the 67th minute. Lancers deny the clean sheet in the 73rd minute, heading in a nice goal on a corner kick.

Chiefs look dangerous early, but squander 4 excellent scoring chances in first 5 minutes, including a penalty kick. Chiefs proceed to dominate possession for the remainder of the half, but Skyhawks keep numbers back and make penetration in the final third difficult. Skyhawks finish the one quality chance they create in the 26th minute, and take a one goal lead into the half. Chiefs maintain composure in the second half and score 4 quality goals. Just after the break, T.J. Byrd collects a pass played across the top of the area and finishes low into the net from 8 yards. Rash gives the Chiefs the lead in the 64th minute coming all the way forward from left back to short side the keeper from a very sharp angle. Chiefs breathe a sigh of relief in the 78th minute as Golob maneuvers nicely and finishes with a low hard strike from 15 yards. Cheatham closes out the scoring in stoppage time with a similar finish.

MIDLOTHIAN
W 3-2
Chiefs come up big on this night to get back in the thick of the District playoff race. Credit the Chiefs team defense on this night as the marking in front of goal was solid whenever the Trojans worked the flanks. Trojans create several corner kicks early which are all defended well by the Chiefs and keeper Burnett. Trojans tally first in the 33rd minute on a low strike that goes in off the far post. Chiefs respond three minutes later as Stykemain plays to Butta on the right flank. His low cross eludes the keeper leaving Golob an easy tap in. In the 2nd half, the match becomes physical after Chiefs take the lead in the 48th minute, as Cheatham's low corner caroms in off a Trojan defender just inside the near post. Trojans draw level in the 67th minute on a PK after a foul at the top corner off the area. The game winner comes 5 minutes from time as Danziesen times his far post run perfectly to bury a Cheatham free kick into the back of the net.

W 5-0
Chiefs dominate this match and cruise to victory. Chiefs substitute liberally, allowing many leg weary players from the previous night's match much needed rest. Cheatham opens the scoring early with a low shot from the right side that clangs in off the right post. Glynn scores the second in the 22nd minute on a nice individual effort, dribbling about 30 yards and through two defenders before finishing from close range. Golob and Cheatham proceed to hit the woodwork before the break. Glynn scores again 4 minutes into the second half, short siding the keeper from about 8 yards. Chiefs create many more chances the next 25 minutes but shoot mostly right at the Huguenot keeper. Then in the 72nd minute, Gomez dribbles in from the left to sneak one past the keeper from close range. A Youngblood penalty kick closes out the scoring 4 minutes from time.

Chiefs start this match in good form but let it slip away in the latter part of the first half. Monacan opens the scoring in the 13th minute as Golob plays forward to Cheatham who is left with an easy tap in after a misplay by the keeper. The lead is short lived as the Rapids answer a minute later. Rapids add two more before the break on a corner kick and a short strike after a failed clearance. Chiefs fail to mount a comeback in the 2nd half as the Rapids add a PK and a final goal from the run of play.

L 2-1
Chiefs play well in this match but come up short. The first half sees tight play in the middle of the pitch with only one real scoring chance for either team. Unfortunately it goes to Cosby in the 26th minute, as they make the Chiefs pay for a mistake in the back with a breakaway goal. Play opens up in the second half with end to end play and good scoring opportunities for both sides. Burnett makes two excellent saves before Cosby gets their second in the 71st minute. Chiefs respond 2 minutes later as Horner heads home a Cheatham cross into the top corner of the net. Chiefs then push numbers forward but fail to equalize.

Midlothian
T 2-2
Important result for the Chiefs as they keep their district playoff hopes alive with a draw and overall great team effort at rival Midlothian. Chiefs start well in this match as Rash comes forward from left back in the 7th minute to penetrate deep into the left side of the area. His ball across the goal mouth eludes the keeper and Trojan defenders to find Golob for a finish from close range. Midlothian answers in the 16th minute on a set play. Chiefs counter just before the half as Burnett's long clearance of a Trojan attack finds a streaking Golob whose early volley from 25 yards dips in perfectly over the charging keeper. The Trojans equalizer comes in the 53rd minute on a header from short range. Drama ensues in overtime with both sides creating chances. The moment of the match comes early in the second overtime, as the Trojans are awarded a Penalty Kick which is parlayed by a diving Burnett and subsequently cleared away. Burnett comes up big with several other great saves during the match.

Victory for the the Chiefs coupled with results elsewhere earns Monacan a tie for 4th in the district, meaning they will have a tournament play-in game with Midlothian Monday night at Clover Hill. Monacan is able to play possession soccer at will throughout this match. First goal comes in the 5th minute as Golob's driven corner kick is headed in by Horner. Then Cheatham assists on Wallace's goal from 15 yards in the 17th minute. Five minutes later Glynn is allowed to curve in a nice 30 yard strike over the keeper. After the break the Chiefs hit the woodwork twice in the first 5 minutes before Cheatham finishes from the left channel. Chiefs add two late goals as DiSalvo buries a Penalty Kick after Danziesen is taken down in the area, and then Wright deftly deflects in a Clark Direct Kick. Keeper Robertson bravely saves the three quality scoring chances the Lancer's create during the match. Dominion Distirct play-in game at Clover Hill. Match starts badly for the Chiefs as a Trojan cross in the 3rd minute results in an own goal on a failed clearance by a Chiefs defender. The Trojans continue to apply pressure to the Monacan goal for the first 20 minutes of the match before play evens out. Midlothian gets their second goal just before the half on a header from close range. After the break, the run of play remains even. Trojans get their final goal in the 68th minute after some confusion in the Monacan defense. Chiefs don't quit as they respond on a direct kick. After the break, the Rapids dominate the first 15 minutes, applying relentless pressure to the Monacan goal. Play then evens out for the final 15 minutes and Chiefs hang on for the win.
