14 at Douglas Freeman W 2-0 Chiefs advance to the final of the Price George Tournament with a solid 2-0 victory over Douglas Freeman. The first half sees Jackson Horner and Matt Gerry doing the hard work in the middle of the field, preventing Freeman from mounting any serious attack. Chiefs score in the 19th minute as Eric Edwards maneuvers the ball deep in the area, fires a shot that deflects off the near post to a wide open Hunter Cheatman who finishes easily from 5 yards. Chiefs withstand strong Freeman pressure in the first 10 minutes of the second half and then regain control. In the 70th minute Matt Golob plays a perfectly weighted ball through two Freeman defenders to a streaking Hunter Cheatham who seals the win with a low strike from just inside the area.
Monacan --------------------- 1 1 - 2
Douglas Freeman --------- 0 0 - 0
Scoring: Cheatham 2.
Saves: Grover 4.
15 Maggie Walker at Prince George L 2-1 Chiefs come up short in this hard fought match. Monacan opens the scoring in the 6th minute as Eric Edwards controls a long ball in the penalty area and drops it to Matt Golob who drills a shot from 20 yards to the top right corner. Three minutes later Maggie Walker draws level on a close in header off of a corner kick. The winning goal comes in the 11th minute as a Maggie Walker winger dribbles across the pitch and strikes from 20 yards out. Monacan fails to find the equalizer despite an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal for the match. The back lines for both sides turned in strong efforts as quality scoring chances were few for either team.

Monacan ---------------------  1 0 - 1
Scoring: Golob 2.
Saves: Grover 4.
23 ATLEE W 1-0 Great overall team victory for the Chiefs against a quality Atlee side. Back line efforts of Danziesen, Glynn, Prince, Gerry and Marr are key to the victory and result in a clean sheet. The Chiefs look dangerous in the attack in the opening minutes but can't convert. After a scoreless first half, lightning strikes in the 62nd minute as Golob flicks a deep throw in towards the top center of the area where Cheatham volleys home a rocket from 15 yards.
Atlee -------------------------- 0 0 - 0

Scoring: Cheatham.

28 at Midlothian L 3-0 Chiefs give up early goals to the Trojans in the 4th and 6th minutes and never recover in their opening district match. Two minutes into the second half, Midlothian adds a 3rd goal on a Penalty Kick. Chiefs are outplayed for the next 30 minutes. Several excellent saves by Adam Grover and a clearance off of the goal line by David Robinson prevent the Trojans from adding to the score.
Monacan --------------------- 0 0 - 0
Midlothian ------------------ 2 1 - 3
Saves: Grover 14.
30 L.C. After the break, Pfluger scores an unassisted goal in the 53rd minute as he steals the ball from a Skyhawk defender and finishes nicely from 8 yards. In the 42nd minute, Chiefs get breathing room as Golob plays a ball forward to Cheatham who finishes from just outside the area. Then Edwards scores two quick goals in the 58th and 59th minute to complete his hat trick. Gerry closes the scoring in the 68th minute after dribbling half the length of the pitch thru several defenders. Chiefs back line of Robinson, Glynn, and Danzeisen is rock solid the entire match as Huguenot never seriously threatens.

18 at Manchester W 1-0 Chiefs find a way to win this evenly played and spirited match. First half sees play mainly in the middle third of the pitch with the Chiefs having a slight advantage in scoring opportunities. The break arrives with neither side finding the net. Both teams create better quality scoring opportunities in the second half. Finally, in the 80th minute, Cheatham crosses from deep in the right corner. Gerry streaks in from the top left of the area and heads home just inside the near post. Monacan survives several minutes of stoppage time before celebrating this hard earned district victory.

20 JAMES RIVER W 5-3 Chiefs come through with great overall team effort, and perhaps the greatest individual finishing display in the history of Monacan soccer by Hunter Cheatham. In the 5th and 10th minutes, Cheatham finishes a pair of nice through balls by Edwards and Golob to give Monacan the early advantage. The first half hat trick is complete in the 25th minute as Cheatham finishes a direct free kick brilliantly from 25 yards, bending the ball with the outside of the boot into the upper 90. Rapids pull one back in the 36th minute. After the half, Cheatham's 4th comes on Golob's 2nd assist in the 45th minute. Rapids respond with their second in the 47th minute, and make a game of it in the 61st minute after converting a penalty kick. Cheatham seals the victory in the 80th minute with one final spectacular effort. After receiving the ball 40 yards from goal, he dribbles through and around three Rapids defenders, then beats the keeper clinically with a low strike to the far post.

25 at Clover Hill L 7-1 Chiefs are no match for the region's 2nd ranked team on this night. Cavaliers score 4 goals in the first 19 minutes and never look back. Lone bright spot for Monacan comes in the 28th minute on a 30 yard shot by Jackson Horner that eludes the keeper and finds the back of the net. Cavaliers add 3 more to their total in the 2nd half.
Monacan ------------------- 1 0 - 1
Clover Hill ---------------- 4 3 - 7
Scoring: Horner.
Saves: Grover 12.
27 MIDLOTHIAN L 5-2 First 25 minutes sees even run of play until the Trojans create a goal off of a long ball forward. Trojans score an immediate 2nd goal after Chiefs lose possession in the back. Midlo is up by three after a 33rd minute goal. Then Cheatham and Golob tap off and give and go straight down the pitch until Golob's final pass puts Cheatham in on the keeper for a signature finish. Trojans score their 4th on a corner just after the break. In the 44th minute, Golob's free kick to the goal box is deflected out to an unmarked Cheatham who finishes calmly from 15 yards. Trojans close out the scoring 4 minutes later. Chiefs play hard the last 30 minutes but can not finish the opportunities they create. The efforts of Horner and Gerry in the middle of the pitch are outstanding this entire match.
Midlothian ---------------- 3 2 - 5
Monacan ------------------- 1 1 - 2
Scoring: Cheatham 2.
Saves: Grover 11.
May
2 at L.C. Bird W 3-2 Chiefs jump out to an early lead in the 7th minute as Pfluger fights for a ball in the center of the area that pops out to a wide open Gerry who finishes from 10 yards. The next 20 minutes sees the majority of play in Monacan's defensive third. Bird is rewarded in the 22nd minute as they draw level on a 25 yard volley. Three minutes after the break, the Chiefs regain control as Edwards comes forward from his stopper position and beats the keeper from a sharp angle to the near post. For the remainder of the match the Chiefs have the advantage in possession due to excellent midfield play. Cheatham gives the Chiefs breathing room in the 51st minute as he dribbles thru several defenders and finishes inside the far post from 12 yards. The Skyhawks pull one back on a Penalty Kick in the 71st minute, but fail to seriously threaten the remainder of the match.
Monacan -------------------  1 2 - 3
L.C. Bird ------------------- 1 1 - 2
Scoring: Edwards, Gerry, Cheatham.

4 HUGUENOT W 7-0 Chiefs dominate this match for their 6th district victory. Gerry opens the scoring in the 12th minute with a strike from 25 yards. Two minutes later, Golob finds Cheatham who adds a second from just inside the area. In the 21st minute Gerry plays a ball towards goal and Everett times his run perfectly to finish from close range. Glynn closes the first half scoring, coming forward from his fullback position to finish to the near post. After the break, Chiefs get an "own goal" in the 48th minute, then Clark plays a ball down the left flank that Golob tracks down and puts into the net. 11 MANCHESTER L 3-0 Chiefs have difficulty maintaining consistent possession in this important district match. Lancers threaten early, seeing Adam Grover save a point blank shot, and soon after having two shots carom off the crossbar. Monacan creates a couple of good opportunities later in the first half but can not finish. Manchester opens the scoring one minute before halftime. Lancers add two goals after the break as Chiefs attack can not create quality penetration in the final third. Manchester defensive tactics and marking are superb for the match.
Manchester --------------- 1 2 - 3
Monacan ------------------- 0 0 - 0

Saves: Grover 6.
16 at James River T 1-1 Outstanding effort, hustle and team play on the part of both sides in this important match with district tournament berths on the line. In the 4th minute, Grover comes out to save, then Robinson slides bravely on the goal line to deny a Rapids rebound shot. Golob, Cheatham and Gerry just miss on good chances in the first half. James River gets their goal in the 25th minute as Grover dives to deflect a shot that is finished by an on rushing Rapid at the far post. After the break, Chiefs draw level in the 66th minute as Cheatham plays forward to Golob who manuevers to create space and take a strong left footed shot from the top corner of the area. The keeper parlays the shot to the far post where a charging Danziesen finishes from 5 yards. Chiefs create the best chance in overtme as Golob dribbles through the Rapids defense from the top corner of the area only to have his shot deflect off the keepers leg and then off the near post. Danziesen, Robinson, Glynn and Prince are excellent in the back. Grover makes several good decisions to leave the net agressively to break up Rapid attacks, including one right at the end of regulation. A berth in the Dominion District tournament is still up in the air, as the Chiefs need to finish in the top four and are currently tied with James River for third and Manchester only one game behind.
