13 L.C. Bird W 7-2 Monacan triumphs over L.C.Bird in their season opener 7-2. Cooke pitched 5 superb innings surrending only 4 hits and striking out 8. Jones pitched the last 2 innings for the save. Jones led off the game with a base hit and ended up scoring on a wild pitch. The Chiefs scored 3 runs in the second with a Jayne base hit, followed by a Cooke single and a 2 out single by freshman, M. Williams. The inning was capped by a bases clearing double by Jones.

15 CLOVER HILL L 1-0 The home opener for the Chiefs provided the crowd with an old fashion pitching duel. Monacan lost a tough one 1-0. Brant Jones and Evan Cooke combined to limit Clover Hill to just one run. The Chiefs were stopped by the pitching of Hebert who went 7 strong innings for Clover Hill. Monacan squandered many scoring opportunities during the game and came up short.

Monacan used 4 pitchers - Cooke, Jones, Taylor and Clements to 2-hit the Falcons. The Chiefs offense was aided by 11 walks and they added 9 hits. Line score from the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

23 DINWIDDIE L 6-5 The Chiefs are downed by Dinwiddie 6-5 in a non-district game. Monacan fell behind by 2 runs in the 1st inning but bounced back in the 3rd by scoring 4 times. M. Williams started the inning with a hit by pitch, B. Jones followed with a RBI single then E.J. Stewart singled home Jones, another based hit by J. Lawrence brought home Stewart and B. Peggs ended the Chief's scoring with a RBI single. Unfortunately, Dinwiddie rallied for 3 runs in the top of the 4th to defeat the Chiefs. Line score from the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

27 James River L 1-0 Monacan loses a heartbreaker to James River 1-0. Brant Jones pitched a 5-hit complete game with 6 K's yeilding only one unearned run in the first inning. The Chiefs were held to 5 hits by James River's D. Marrs. Monacan's best scoring opportunity came in the 5th inning when Michael Williams was thrown out at home on a deep fly hit by Jones to right field.

29 COSBY L 8-1 Monacan's hitting woes continue as the Chiefs lose to Dominion District newcomer Cosby 8-1. Stewart, Jones and Blankenship stay hot accounting for all 7 Monacan hits. The Chief's only run came in the 6th inning on a solo home run by Josh Blankenship. Evan Cooke pitched well going into the 5th but tired and was relieved by Brant Jones and Josh Clements in the 6th and 7th.

  5 MIDLOTHIAN L 3-0 Monacan falls to Midlothian 3-0. UVA bound Tyler Wilson pitched a one-hit complete game against the Chiefs. The lone hit came off the bat of Brant Jones in the 6th inning. Jones also pitched 6 strong innings giving up 2 earned runs with 7 strike outs. Evan Cooke pitched to three batter in the 7th inning and set them down 1,2,3. The Chiefs head into this week's Skyhawk Invitational at L.C. Bird with a 2-5 record. No line score available from the Richmond Times-Dispatch on-line.
  9 Skyhawk Invitational @ L.C. Bird W 9-3 vs. Colonial Heights. Monacan opens the Skyhawk Invitational Tournament with a 9-3 victory over Colonial Heights. The Chief's bats woke up pounding out 12 hits, led by E.J. Stewart with 3 singles and Brian Peggs 2 hits, one of which was a towering home run to centerfield. Ryan Jayne was also 2 for 2. The big blow came from a bases loaded double by James Lawrence to put the game out of reach. Evan Cooke scattered 7 hits going 5 innings for the win. Brant Jones pitched the last two innings in relief. No line score available from the Richmond Times-Dispatch on-line.
10 Skyhawk Invitational @ L.C. Bird W 12-0 vs. Meadowbrook. The Chiefs will play in the finals of the Skyhawk Invit. after a 12-0 dismantling of the Meadowbrook Monarchs. A 15 hit attack paced the Chiefs in the 5 inning contest. The 3rd inning proved to be very productive, as Monacan plated 8 runs. E.J. Stewart remained hot as he went 3 for 3. Brant Jones capped the outburst with a grand slam home run. Brian Peggs pitched a wonderful game yielding no hits. Peggs was hitting his spots with his curve ball and kept Meadowbrook off balance all game.

11 Skyhawk Invitational @ L.C. Bird L 2-1 Championship vs. Benedictine. The Chiefs lose another one run game in the championship to the Cadets. Benedictine managed only 2 hits but that was enough to down the Chiefs. Brant Jones pitched a strong game going 7 innings giving up 2 first inning hits. The Chiefs lone run was produced by a Ryan Jayne single followed by a stolen base and a James Lawrence base hit.

17 Manchester L 13-5 Monacan drops a Dominion District match-up to Manchester 13-5. Three home runs helped Manchester in the victory. The Chiefs scored 2 runs in the third inning. Singles by Stewart and Jones set the table, then back to back fielder choices drove in 2 runs. Monacan scored 2 in the 5th, singles by Stewart and Jones followed by an RBI hit by Lawrence netted another pair of runs.

He had a base hit in the 3rd for another RBI. The Chiefs pounded out 10 hits. Jones pitched a 3 hit complete game.

24 Clover Hill W 10-9 Monacan's 12 hit attack overcomes Clover Hill 10-9. Jones led the hitting in the 1st inning with a solo home run. The Chiefs had a big 3rd inning, scoring 5 times; singles by Cooke, Williams, Jayne and Lawrence, doubles by Blankenship and Peggs. The Chiefs took a lead 5-3 but Clover Hill tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd. The Chiefs would go ahead in the 6th with a single by Blankenship, a triple by Clements and a bunt by Cooke. Clover Hill answered in the bottom of the 6th with 3 runs going ahead 9-8. The Chiefs scored 2 runs in the 7th for the come behind victory. Stewart singles, Jones doubles and a sacrifice fly by Lawrence tied the game at 9 apiece. Then a single by Blankenship gave Monacan the go ahead run. Monacan held Clover Hill to no runs in the bottom of the 7th for the win. Cooke got the win with 4 nice innings of relief of Jones.

  1 HUGUENOT W 12-2 Monacan hammers Huguenot 11-2. The Chiefs were down 1-0 going into the 3rd inning. Monacan plated 7 runs in the 3rd, highlighted by a Jones grand slam and a 2 out 2 run double by Montgomery. In the 6th inning, the Chiefs scored 4 more for the win. A 2 RBI double by Clements and a RBI double by Montgomery. The pitching duties were shared by Taylor, Peggs, McCollum and Oliver.

  3 JAMES RIVER L 8-5 Monacan loses to the #1 ranked team in the state - James River, 8-5. The Chiefs fell behind early by giving up 4 runs in the first. Monacan rallied in the bottom of the 7th by scoring 4 runs: a double by Williams, an RBI single by Jayne, followed by a 3-run homer by Lawrence closed the gap to 3. But a ground out ended the Chiefs hopes.

  8 Cosby L 4-3 Monacan loses to Cosby 4-3 in a critical Dominion District match-up. The Chiefs went ahead in the top of the fourth 2-1 on a double by Cooke, a single by Peggs and a suicide squeeze by Huntley. Unfortunately, the lead was short-lived as the Chiefs gave up 2 unearned runs in the 5th inning. Jones pitched well giving up 6 hits in the loss.

15 Midlothian L 12-1 Monacan drops a game to Midlothian 12-1. The Trojans put on an offensive show, hitting 4 home runs. The Chief's hitting was flat all game long. Monacan's final game of the year is Thursday vs. Manchester.

17 MANCHESTER W 3-2 The Chiefs end the season with a terrific 3-2 victory over Manchester on Senior Day. Evan Cooke brought a no-hitter into the 7th inning and came away with the victory. Brant Jones' home run in the bottom of the 4th gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. In the 5th inning a clutch 2-out hit by Clements netted Monacan 2 runs. Cooke got the compete game win. The Chiefs end the 2007 season 10-10 overall, 8-8 in the district.

    13 L.C. BIRD L 3-1 The Chiefs opened strong against the Skyhawks of L.C. Bird, taking a 1-1 tie into the 7th inning before falling 3-1. Jake Tuzzo pitched a complete game for the Chiefs, while also going 1 for 3 at the plate, hitting a triple. Garrett Cortright added 2 hits while Bruce Bower, Ryan Oliver, and Will Bays had 1 hit apiece.

    15 Clover Hill L 10-2 The Chiefs battle on the road to tie the game 2-2 in the top of the third, but can't hold on against Clover Hill. Jake Tuzzo led the Chiefs with a big 2 out single to drive in both runs, in addition to 2 diving stops at 2nd base. Bruce Bower continued his hot bat with 2 hits, while Jordon Calfee, Chris Turner and Ryan Oliver all had one hit. Will Bays turned in a strong pitching performance, finally shutting down the Cavaliers over the final 1 2/3 innings.

On offense the team registers ten total hits led by Jake Tuzzo, Will Bays and Logan Staib with two apiece, while Mike McCollum, Cam Shaw, Garrett Cortright and Jordon Calfee each had one hit.

Steven Freeman comes in to pitch in the fourth and shuts the Rapids down until yielding to Jake Tuzzo in the seventh, who picks up his first save. Ryan Oliver picks up three RBIs to lead the Chiefs while Bruce Bower drives in the go ahead run with two outs. The Chiefs had 13 hits, led by Ryan Oliver and Bruce Bower with 3 apiece, Michael Tizard and Logan Staib with two each, and Jake Tuzzo, Mike McCollum, and Cam Shaw all with one each.

Ryan Oliver has a huge game with three hits and four RBIs, while Bruce Bower, Logan Staib and Will Bays all add two hits each. Michael Tizard, Jake Tuzzo and Jordon Calfee round out the hitting all picking up one hit a piece.

Eight different Chiefs hit safely in the game as Benedictine plays tough all the way to the end.

Midlothian takes advantage of pitching and defensive woes to score nine runs from the third inning on to stop the Chiefs' two game win streak. Ryan Oliver and Logan Staib both stand out at the plate with two hits a piece.

Led by strong pitching from Jake Tuzzo and a grand slam home run from Logan Staib, the Chiefs defeated the Lancers 8-3. Down quickly 2-0, the Chiefs fought back to take the lead for good in the fourth. Both Ryan Oliver and Logan Staib had two hits, while Michael Tizard, Bruce Bower, Jake Tuzzo and Garrett Cortright all had one hit a piece.

    19 L.C. Bird W 8-3 The JV Chiefs honored the victims, families and entire Virginia Tech community touched by the 4/16 tragedy by wearing Virginia Tech hats for the game. Led by strong pitching from Cam Shaw and Logan Staib's second home run in as many games, the Chiefs defeated the Skyhawks 8-3. Tied 3-3 after four innings, the Chiefs exploded for five runs in the fifth, three coming on Staib's home run. Ryan Oliver remained hot at the plate with three hits, while Jake Tuzzo drove the ball hard adding two hits. Michael Tizard, Bruce Bower, Mike McCollum and Cam Shaw rounded out the ten hit team attack by all adding one hit a piece.

    24 CLOVER HILL W 5-4 The Chiefs won a hard fought victory over the visiting Cavaliers 5-4 by extinguishing a 7th inning rally with the tying run on third base. Jake Tuzzo pitched six strong innings and Cam Shaw picked up his first save by pitching the 7th. The Chiefs jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the first, then went up 5-2 after five innings Clover Hill battled back for two in the sixth but could get no more. Cam Shaw and Jordon Calfee came up big in the fifth, with Shaw driving in one run with a double and Calfee singling in two runs. Ryan Oliver again led the offensive attack with two hits. Adding one hit a piece were Michael Tizard, Bruce Bower, and Jake Tuzzo.

    30 DINWIDDIE L 7-4 The Chiefs lose a tough extra innings game to the Dinwiddie Generals at home. Down 4-0 entering the sixth, the Chiefs fight back to tie, but could score no more. Dinwiddie picks up three in the 11th inning to earn a split in the season series between the two teams. Cam Shaw pitched eight outstanding innings for the Chiefs, while Jake Tuzzo had two of the Chiefs' five hits.

      3 James River L 13-0 Monacan loses on a rainy day on the road at James River. The Chiefs could never get on track while the Rapids played a solid game making several outstanding defensive plays in addition to collecting 12 hits. Robert Watts shown for the Chiefs on this day, hanging tough on defensive despite taking a ball in the throat, while going 1-2 at the plate.

      8 COSBY W 3-1 The Chiefs and Titans play another close game, reprising their 3/29 nail biter. Led by Cam Shaw and Jake Tuzzo's pitching and a nine hit attack, the Chiefs win 3-1. Ryan Oliver hits a two run home run in the first, while Cam Shaw and Robert Watts add two hits a piece. The Chiefs turn a huge bases loaded double play in the third with Ryan Oliver and Roberts Watts making perfect throws. Josh Faison and Dustin Woody combine on a double play which ends the game with the tying runs on base.

    15 MIDLOTHIAN L 11-2 The Chiefs played a close game through three innings but saw things unravel in the fourth. Midlothian broke the game open with a strong fourth inning and became the first district team to take two from the Chiefs this year. Logan Staib leads the Chiefs by going 2-2 at the plate with a RBI, while Jake Tuzzo, Kyle Smith, Chris McConnell and Brandon Blair all add one hit a piece.

    17 Manchester W 11-1 The Chiefs start strong in their final district game of the year and win big on the road at Manchester, sweeping the season series from the Lancers. Jake Tuzzo pitches a complete game four hitter as the team turns 12 hits into 11 runs. Roberts Watts leads a strong hitting attack going 3-4 with two RBIs, needing just a home run to have hit for the cycle. Jake Tuzzo added three hits and two RBIs while Logan Staib gets two RBIs on his two hits. Jordon Calfee caps off the scoring in the seventh by hitting his first home run of the year.
