Undefeated Chiefs, now ranked No. 5, keep rolling with an extra-inning win. Chiefs score seven runs in the eighth inning. Starter Codemo, a sophomore who kept the Blue Devils at bay for seven innings, gets the win. Hoyle works the eighth.

Chiefs score seven in the second inning, highlighted by Terrier's two-run home run, and score in every inning thereafter, culminating with Cary's two-run homer in the fifth. Win gives Monacan sole possession of first place in the Dominion District.
Moore pitches a six-hitter with 8 strikeouts. Chiefs pound out 12 hits. Cary 2-for-4, 3 RBIs, HR. Terrier 2-for-4, 2 RBIs, HR. Anderson 3-for-4, 3 RBIs. Myers 2-for-3.

22 at Manchester L 2-3 No. 3-ranked Chiefs (8-1) lose their first of the season, despite a four-hitter by Moore.
Monacan gets six hits, including Rohman's two-run home run in the top of the sixth that provides the team's only scoring and ties the game at 2. But Manchester comes back with what would prove the game-winning run in the bottom of the 6th. Manchester's Charlie Winkler hit two home runs in the game.
Monacan, which had been averaging just under 10 runs a game, was the region's last undefeated team.
24 CLOVER HILL L 8-9 Chiefs lose their second straight one-run game after starting out 8-0, despite a furious closing effort.
Monacan trails just 2-1 going into the fifth. But Chiefs give up 5 runs in the fifth and 2 in the sixth, entering the bottom of the seventh down 9-2. Chiefs rally to score 6 of the 7 they need to pull even. But they can get no closer. Corallino goes 2-for-3, with a run and 2 RBIs for Monacan.
29 MIDLOTHIAN W 10-1 Chiefs end a two-game slide with an 11-hit pounding of arch-rival Midlothian. No 6-ranked Monacan scores 3 in the first inning, then adds five in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Cary and Myers each homer for the Chiefs. Moore, who struck out 8 hitters, and Rohman, who came on to pitch in the seventh, combine on a five-hit shutout.
May
1 VARINA L 3-4 Varina scores two in the sixth and two in the seventh to upset the Chiefs. For Monacan, Arnold goees 2-for-4 with an RBI.
5 at Midlothian L 1-2 Bad luck Chiefs, once undefeated, lose their fourth game in the last five, all by one run. Midlo scores solo runs in the third and fourth innings off Rohman. Caroallino, who has a double, drives in one for the Chiefs but they can get no more. Rohman, 2-for-3, has Monacan's only other hits.
Loss drops Monacan from a tie for third, one game back, to fourth place, two games back.
  6 L.C. BIRD
(No. 1 in Metro)
L 2-3 Unbelievable string of bad luck continues for the once-undefeated Chiefs, who lose their fith game in the last six, each by one run. This one came against the No. 1-ranked Skyhawks, whose only loss this season came from the Chiefs.
No. 7 Monacan takes the early lead, scoring once in the first on Rohman's 390-foot home run and once in the second on Corallino's single, Cary's double and McReynolds' sacrifice fly.
Meanwhile, Moore pitches brilliantly for the Chiefs -- in six of his seven innings. All five of Bird's hits, and all three of Bird's runs, come in the fourth inning. Only one of the five hits escapes the infield: Two are bunts and one is a swinging bunt. A Monacan error aids Bird's cause.
Loss eliminates the Chiefs from contention for the Dominion District regular-season title. "We can still make the (district) tournament and get hot again," Coach Bill Reeves tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch. "We just need to get that hit to win that first one-run game, then things will start to topple."
Skyhawks go short for win; Bunts executed against Chiefs, Richmond Times-Dispatch, May 7.
8 HUGUENOT W 10-0 Arnold and Hoyle combine for no-hitter against over-matched Falcons. Chiefs get six hits in four-inning game. Rohman triple, 2 runs scored.
Doubleheader, won by identical scores, was scheduled after earlier rainout.
8 HUGUENOT W 10-0 Codemo and Jones combine for two-hitter against over-matched Falcons. Chiefs get eight hits in four-inning game, including Bertovich solo home run. Coralino 2 doubles, 2 runs, 2 RBIs.
13 at James River W 10-0 Easy win -- 6-run 5th ended game by slaughter rule -- leaves Chiefs in contention for district playoff spot. Monacan pounds pound out 11 hits in winning third straight game by 10-0 score. Arnold 3-for-4. Rohman 3-for-4. Myers 2-for-3.
Four teams will qualify for next week's district tournament. The contenders, with one game left (Monacan has two left): Bird 9-2, Manchester 8-3, Clover Hill 7-4, Midlothian 7-4, Monacan 6-4.
15 MANCHESTER W 10-4 Big late-inning win for the Chiefs, who score eight runs in the bottom of the sixth. Win leaves Monacan (7-4 in Dominion District) in position to tie Manchester (8-4, season concluded) for second place.
Chiefs take a 1-0 lead in the first inning but Manchester goes up 4-2 after the fifth, setting up the Chiefs' explosion. It was Monacan's fourth straight win and fourth straight win in which it scores 10 runs.
Anderson 2-for-4, HR, 3 RBIs. Meyer 1-for-2, 2 RBIs. Jones 1-for-3, 2 RBIs.
Top four teams make district playoffs. Standings one day before season's end: Bird 10-2, Manchester 8-4, Monacan 7-4, Midlothian 7-5, Clover Hill 7-5, James River 2-9, Huguenot 0-10.
16 JAMES RIVER W 9-5 Fifth straight win puts the Chiefs (8-4) in a tie for second place in the Dominion District with Manchester. Teams will play each other in next week's tournament, one as the No. 2 seed and the other as the No. 3 seed.
Monacan, trailing 3-2, scores 4 runs in the bottom of the third inning, then 2 each in the fifth and sixth innings. Power-hitting Chiefs get five home runs, two of them from Thomas Cary.
Anderson 1-for-3, HR. Corallino 1-for-2 HR. Cary 2-for-3, 2 HRs. Terrier 2-for4, HR.
20 vs. Manchester L 3-7 Dominion District tournament semifinals at L.C. Bird. Manchester scores 4 in the bottom of the second on the way to ending the Chiefs' season. Two teams had tied for second in the district with 8-4 records.
Manchester stretched its lead to 7-0 entering the seventh (and final inning). Chiefs outhit the Lancers 6-5 but did not score until Myers' three-run homer in the seventh.
Monacan, ranked No. 6 in the metro area, finishes 14-6. Unranked Manchester is 10-10.
