2 Dominion District Tourn. at L.C. Bird DOMINION DISTRICT (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
The top three seeds easily advanced into the semifinals in the Dominion District tournament. Top-seeded Catherine Slagel of Midlothian, who had a first-round bye, defeated Shannon Hay 10-3. No. 2 Nan Lawson of James River beat Genneh Armstrong 10-1, and Annie Geczi of Clover Hill, the third seed, won her matches by a combined 20-2.
Jane Meyer of Monacan was an upset victim twice, however. The fourth seed in singles as well as doubles, Meyer lost to unseeded Hayley Tucker of Clover Hill 10-3. Later in the day, she and partner Ashley Dierson fell to Clover Hill's Annie Geczi and Brittney Craddock 10-4.
The matches will continue at L.C. Bird today with the singles semifinals at 3 p.m. Doubles quarterfinals and semifinals will follow. The singles final will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m., and the doubles final will be at 5 p.m.
