Preview
Richmond Times-Dispatch
Sept. 1, 2006
Coach: Danny Parsons 2005: 1-6, 2-8
Offense: Chiefs QB Darien Brothers (6-2, 190, So.) commands attention from basketball foes. Will he do the same on the football field? Backfield mates Rodney Buise (5-5, 165, Sr.) and J.C. Wiggins (5-10, 175, So.) are green, too. Reece Gordon (6-6, 190, Sr.) is an imposing target at WR. Gs Shane Smith (6-1, 250, Sr.) and Eric Stanard (6-2, 200, Sr.) and T Justin Gilbert (6-6, 265, Jr.) return on the line.
Defense: An athletic group that is young and inexperienced has to do better than give up the 281 points last year's unit allowed. Stanard (DE) and CB Mark Morris (5-11, 150, Sr.) are the only starters returning. Gilbert and Smith occupy the tackle slots. Gary Lee (5-10, 210, Sr.) is the biggest of the linebackers.
Prognosis: Picking up more victories will be a difficult task for the Chiefs because so many players are starting for the first time. Monacan was 2-2 after four games last year then went into an 0-6 skid in the district. This year's schedule sets up the same way.
