GEORGE WYTHE
forf
Chiefs actually win this game 32-0 but later have to forfeit when a player was found to have been academically ineligible.
As to the game itself, Chiefs score three second-quarter touchdowns en route to a Homecoming blowout win. Kadero Watson runs for three touchdowns and a total of 66 yards on just four carries. Meanwhile, Monacan holds the winless Bulldogs to just 70 yards of offense. Olumide Akanni registers three of the team's six quarterback sacks.
Times-Dispatch coverage (10/16)
As to the forfeit, Monacan Activities Director Pat Ferguson told the Richmond Times-Dispatch in November that he had checked the player's grades three times since August, and each computer check showed the player had the required five credits from last year. A recent check showed the player was one credit short. "I don't know what happened," Ferguson said. "This has been a real mystery." The player competed in losses to Mills Godwin and Matoaca, the victory over Wythe, and a loss to Midlothian. He did not play afterward, Ferguson said.

Tough loss for the Chiefs against their arch-rivals. Trailing 7-0 at halftime, Monacan comes out to tie -- almost -- on QB Linville's one-yard run, then misses the extra-point. Midlo scores next 10 points. A late Linville-to-Nicholas TD pass tightens the score but Monacan can get no more.
Linville finishes 8-for-20 passing for 95 yards, one TD and one interception. Defensively, Chiefs give up only 20 yards passing but only 251 yards on the ground. Midlo and Monacan now both 2-2 in district play.
Five turnovers lead to 45 points in the first quarter en route to one of Monacan's worst losses in history. Chiefs gain only a total of 29 yards in falling to 2-3 in the Dominion District and 3-5 overall.

Preview
Richmond Times-Dispatch
Sept. 3, 2004
Coach: Danny Parsons
2003: 6-1, 9-1
Offense: Parsons takes over for Keith Daniels and inherits an inexperienced bunch led by T Brian Kelly (6-6, 310) and G Ryan Freeman (6-0, 225, Sr.). RB Kadero Watson (5-10, 170, Sr.) should receive plenty of carries. The QB spot is up for grabs. Track star Paul Nicholas provides speed at WR.
Defense: LB Freeman is the lone returning starter. Kelly will anchor the line. Lineup includes juniors and seniors, but most are inexperienced. Ten starters lost from last year's outstanding outfit tell the story.
Prognosis: Eighteen starters were lost from a team that was snubbed by the Division 6 playoffs. Game time is needed and wanted by Parsons for his bunch. But starting with Mills Godwin and Matoaca is no picnic. Look for the Chiefs to improve as the season goes on. (Predicted 5th place in 8-team Dominion District.)

PRINCE GEORGE
L 0-16
Chiefs shut out the Royals in the second half but fall to 16 first-half points. Defensive highlight comes when defensive back Bobby Swanson runs down a Prince George ballcarrier at the PG 10-yard line after a 60-yard gain; Monacan defense stiffens and keeps the Royals out of the end zone.

L 6-27
The fiorst half's only score comes on a James River interception. Chiefs take the lead on a third-quarter touchdown pass from Jordan Snyder to Johnathan Papillion, who takes the pass at about midfield and makes a great 50-yard run for the score. The extra point puts Monacan up 7-6. But James River comes back with a touchdown to take the lead, then adds two in the final quarter for the win.

Godwin takes a 19-0 halftime lead of a game rescheduled from the first week of the season. Visitors maintain the lead until the closing minutes. Starting at midfield, Chiefs advance to the 20-yard-line on two Jordan Snyder passes, the first to Gabe Gugliemo on a good catch and the second to Dexter Epps.
