That's the hard to see tree in the
middle!
Red Ironbark
Eucalyptus sideroxylon
This is a nice native. It has a dark
bark, pale leaves, and pink/red flowers.
I chose it for this reason.
There is very little information on working with eucalyptus for Bosai. I
have heard that they are fast grower and need to be placed outside in
full sun. This can make them a very dependant tree needing more work
than most.
But being an Aussie, I gotta try it!
I will be placing more information of the tree itself soon.
This is the reason why I love this tree. It's bark is
so amazing.
I have recently gained a seedling of this tree and
re-potted it and begun to train it. As yet I must say, it is incredibly
hardy. I feel that any Aussie wanting to begin Bonsai work, this is
the plant. If you kill it, don't bother with another. It can handle
drought and really bad conditions. Although, I would recommend that you
look after it with much care.

I have finally added a picture of my
favorite new bonsai- a Red Ironbark I bought for AU$3.50. It handled the
first pruning very well and sprung back with new life. The only problem
is that it has already regained the few inches I cut off the trunk. It
will, hopefully, grow another branch further down the trunk so I can try
to train it from there.

I have begun the bonsai of the tree I bought for
AU$3.50 and it is looking great! I'm going to train it into a formal
up-right. It has a nook very close to the base where most of the branch
growth has occurred making this tree ideal for this type of work. I hope
to add a picture within the next few weeks.
