Japanese  Maple

15/3/02

I've recently bought some maples seedling which are growing well.
The Japanese Maple is not the best suited to the hot Australian summer and so can prove to be a challenging subject.
I've found my little trees do well bagged over as like I do for propagation- thus creating a small green house which I then place in a very shaded spot. I have seem many of this specie, burned in the summer time and have learnt from this.
I don't know a great deal about the science attached to this plant and will do research as soon as time permits.
I do know a nice little fact however. When these grow new leaves after winter, the leaves have a red appearance for the first few month.
We'll see in a year or two.
