Golden-rain
tree
Koelreuteria
paniculate
Firstly, I must admit, I have found no
evidence that this tree is suitable for Bonsai work.
The golden rain tree has a wide, funny shaped leaf. It also has the
weirdest seed pods you will ever see. The seeds themselves, look, and
are about the same size, as lobster eyes!
I will have to add photos as I could never explain the weird beauty of
this tree. It is, naturally about a small to medium tree in height. I
started out by finding two seedling growing where they shouldn't and so
saved them from being ripped up like weeds.
I don't know how they have taken the winter. They show little
difference to the day I found them. I am waiting for there growth to
"kick off" again to see if they made it through alright.

My little tree is looking great!! It
has exploded with the warmer days. The picture above is it as it was
earlier today. It looked like the picture below for a couple of months
and only recently gained all the new foliage.

I now have one seedling that is growing well. I have since placed it in
a medium/small pot by itself so, with any luck, it should grow on happy,
without competition. The photograph above is my golden rain tree today.

With new seeds that I planted, I have had some success! Now, I have two
shoots at the end of the cold, thus I feel hopeful that I will gain new
seedlings.

I, the other day, had some bad luck with my two seedlings. The weather
this time of year can be too much. Both suffered from frost and I lost
one.
I am now taking measures to avoid losing the other by the same means.
