Theresa -submitted by Cindy I was 17 when I had her. Sept 3, 1990 Labour Day I was at my boyfriends parents (I would stay there on the week ends and my parents during the week.) I woke up at 9:00a.m I could hear myself moaning in my sleep. My mother in law to be asked me If I was OK. I said I'm in pain. I went to the washroom and I was spotting . She told me I was probably in labour! I was due the next day. Oh My back hurt , my legs ached I couldn't sit or stand for long I was so uncomfortable. So when my boyfriend -19 (father of baby-future hubby) Woke up I told him I m in labour. He said he had to go to work and told me to call the doctor.... Well around 4:00p.m I think I called the doctor and she said when the contractions get stronger or if my water breaks to go to the Hospital. Well Iwanted to shower but my inlaws bathroom was getting fixed so if we needed to shower we had to go to the Grandparents next door (on a farm next door is a few minutes away) So I didn't go because I was afraid to go buy myself.... So around 6:30p.m my mother in law was making dinner and my contractions felt about 5 minutes apart so being 20 minutes from the hospital we get ready to leave to the hospital. I called my mom first to tell her But I know she going to go to Bingo so I told her to ahead and go to Bingo and I'd call her later.......... Anyhow Off we go to the Hospital we used my hubby's Aunts new car and I was sooo worried my water might break and ruin the appolstry lol Anyhow we get to the Hospital I get into a room. My mom is there. I'm there for about 3 hours before the doctor sees me. And of course my doctor tells me she will be away this day not to go into labour)(So I get an on call doctor!) Time went fast though. So the doctor comes in he looks like he just Butchered a Cow -White T-shirt-stains...) and Boy is he Grumpy even he nurses say he is in a bad mood! He examines me and realizes the baby is too high so he says wait till the next day -Well after he leaves my water breaks!!! so they get me up to x-ray where I have to stay perfectly still -YA RIGHT!!! Huge pain!!!!! So the doctor plans for an emergency c-section cause the baby is high and my birth Canal is too narrow!!! So I freak cause I've never been in a hospital over night or had anytime of operation -I never even broke anything!!!!! So they get me ready and they put me to sleep I wake up my mom is there she tells me I had a Girl! (which is what I was hoping for) A few minutes later I said I had a Girl?????? lol Of course my bf is at work and His dad calls to tell him but he can't leave. So he tries to come and see me at like 3:00a.m but the Security guard didn't believe he had a baby (picture tall guy ,long har,.leather Jacket,Long earrings.....) So he was mad and he was up most of the night but he came at 8:00a.m bright and early for him He brought me a stuffed Pink Kangaroo with a baby Kangaroo in the pouch! I'm in the hospital 7 days and then the baby -Theresa and I live at my moms for a year...........(week ends at the inlaws to be)
Ryan -submitted by Cindy Due Oct 3, 1994 age 21 Doctor thinks baby is too big to try natural he wants to scheduale a c-section for Sept 22. I said NO my daughter's birthday is Sept I don't want 2 kids birthdays the same month if I can help it I'll wait till closer to the due date...... So Oct 3 goes by-nothing...... On Oct 5 I lose my mucus plug I thought I called the doctor and they tell me to pack my bags and come to the doctors he checks me out and said Yup go to the hospital tomorrow 6:00a.m for a schedualed c-section cause baby is wayyy to big to have natural (still too small inside) OK So we are there like 6:30a.m to get prepped section is for 8:00a.m Well 8:00a,m comes and goes no doctor he had an emergency so I have to wait till noon now... noon comes and goes NOPE another emergency I feel fine so my BF and I go for a walk up the hall. Nurse tells us 4:30p.m is now the time......... NOPE So Finally 5:00p.m comes (i'm starving and dying of thurst!) haven't had anything to eat since 5:00p.m he day before!!! Can't have any liquids I m allowed to only put water in my mouth then spit it out...... gggggggrrrrrrrrr So I go into the operating room I get knocked out. have my baby boy 5:15p.m Thursday Oct 6. He is 9 lbs 2 oz. BIG baby!! Ok fine The next day the doctor is worried cause he hasn't had a bowel movement yet and he's not eatting...... But that can be normal in some cause of the shock so we wait The next day he is in NICU and green Bile is coming out of his mouth and his belly is getting extended. I cry the whole time . So Saturday the baby doctor says he needs to go to another hospital a childrens hospital cause he thinks his Bowel is blocked So all day the doctor is on the phone calling the Childrens hospitals in the areas! On that is close had a flu bug they are closed another one close is Full. So he called another one 2 hours away OK they can take him. So Sunday night 9:00p.m a Helicopter comes and they take him to the Childrens Hospital -This is the day before Canada's Thanksgiving Day. I can t go yet because the maturnity ward for the moms is full. So I have to get discharged I told the nurse I'm out of there too! She said Yes tomorrow morning I'll be discharged (i'm waiting for them to say No and then there would be a Fight! but no they say Yes.....) So 7:00a.m the doctor comes to discharge me . My inlaws pick me up and off we go to the Childrens Hospital 2 hours drive I m in PAIN!!!!! and very uncomfortable but I don't care. So we get to the hospital and they bring me to the baby. The doctor has seen him and is going to do a biopsy tomorow to see what's going on... So Now I need to find a place to stay. They hospital tells me there is a nurses residence up the road I can stay there for the night (everyone is gone home for Thanksgiving) So my mother in law stays with me.and for a week. Then by the hospital was a Ronald McDonald House we stayed at the rest of the time it was a few miutes walk from the hospital. My mom stayed with me for the second week and my BF stays during the week ends cause he is in College. at 8 days old they operate on my baby to remove the dead part of the Bowel and give him a colostomy (bring the Bowel out through the tummy-Where he has to poop in a bag)- For 3 months. He has Hershsprung Disease (which is hereditary disease we know nothing about and mostly in boys) We are there for 2 weeks. And finally we get to go home. I also have a year year old that I only saw a few times then who is being passed around between her grandparents.. He has to have the Colostomy bag until he is 3 months old which is after Christmas ( I pray it's not his last Christmas!!) So I never had any poopy bums for 3 months! So January he goes back for a 4 hour operation to put his bowel back in and reattach it. And Everything is fine he is there for 4 days and home. So boy did I look forward to poopy Diapers and loved every smelly minute of them after that!! Although for a year we have to go to the doctors 2 hours a way every few weeks for a while them every month then at 3 years they said he is 100% but still it could happen again around 6 years if he gets plugged up again. Now at 9 years almost I still ask if he's gone to the Bathroom often......
Cheyenne Nicole -submitted by Melanie 6 lbs. 3.5 ozs 20 1/2 in long Well, I was 8 months pregnant and didn't feel the baby move at all. I went into the doctor and they could get the baby to move. So they took out a zapper thing and shocked my stomach. Nothing happened and they did it again. Nothing happened. They did it one more time and finally the baby moved a little bit. They scheduled a ultrasound and found nothing wrong. So they next couple weeks went fine. I woke up on November 11,2001 at 4 in the morning cramping. I thought okay we are contracting a little bit. I timed them and they were 5 minutes apart. I called the mid-wife and she told me to come to the hospital. So I woke my husband up and told him its time. He come right out of his sleep and said your s***ing me. I said its really time and we have to go to the hospital. So we start driving and every minute the contractions get worse. I was already asking for drugs before I even got there....lol. They hook me up and everything and they said your 3 centimeters dilated. I thought oh my god it hurts this bad this early. I told them I want a epidural when I hit 4 centimeters. I get the epidural and 2 hours later I was complete. My mid-wife was mad because she said I will go slower if I get a epidural. Proved her wrong. I start pushing and the baby's head is out and she is blue like I never seen before. The cord is wrapped tight around her neck. They get it off and they get her to breathe. Then I hear them screaming prep the OR and call the doctor now. I didn't know what was going on. I just know I felt my mid-wife's arm completely in my gut. It hurt bad. She told me that I was bleeding to death due to the cord being ripped from the placenta. I replied can't I just stand up and it will come out...lol...She said no it would make it worse. So the placenta is stuck in me causing me to bleed to death. I start getting dizzy and going in and out of it. I remember grabbing someone's fingers and trying to break them because I was sick of arms being pushed in me. Finally, the doctors comes rushing in and says honey I need to try one more time to get it out and if I can't you have to go to surgery. So he trys with just two fingers and it comes right out. Thank god. It was the scariest thing I ever went through and my husband was scared to death. The good things that came of the birth is my beautiful healthy daughter and now stitches......Wahoo....I went home and then my daughter gets sleep apnea and ends up in the hospital on a heart monitor and breathing monitor. She wears this machine non stop for 6 months and finally it comes off. Now she is perfectly healthy and happy 1 1/2 year old.
Caden Ray -submitted by Hilary June 2, 2000 8 pounds 7 ounces 21 inches The Adventure: Jonathan and I found out about the pregnancy September 19, 1999. I had the usual symptoms-the fatigue, sickness, etc. I went to a family planning clinic the 27th and it was confirmed-6 weeks along! I couldn't believe it. We were not expecting to have any kids of our own. We wanted to adopt. It seems God had other plans for us. :) Well, I started seeing an OB in Hillsboro and trying to find out all I could on pregnancy and birth. I searched the internet for hours at night gathering info. We had a rough time the first two trimesters. I had all day sickness for about 4 months. :( My OB worried that the baby wasn't growing as it should and I had 3 sonograms. Jonathan and I were a little worried every time she said I was so small. But at every session he was healthy. I didn't begin to show until around 5 and a half months. Even then you really couldn't tell. I had to get different clothes though since my hips DID widen! Until delivery, I was still small. This made us all think Caden would only weigh around 6 lbs. Big surprise!!! To complicate matters, we were trying to find a house 2 hours away to buy. We spent all of our free time driving back and forth looking at land and houses. I felt so miserable. We were forced to consider purchasing a mobile home as we didn't have enough money or credit to qualify for a site built home loan. The first company we contacted only gave us heartache. The second one came through. We finally moved in January. I couldn't find a suitable OB at our new residence so I decided to look into a homebirth with a midwife. We searched around a few weeks, and the Lord rewarded us with the best(we feel) two midwives anyone could hope to encounter! They worked with us concerning our desires for a natural birth. Marty and Joyce really made this experience more enjoyable. Jonathan and I both felt so comfortable with them. Very christian demeanors. I remember at one point close to pushing Joyce prayed for me. That really helped me get through the tough parts of labor. While I do not want to ever experience birth again, if I did get pregnant, I would definitely choose a home birth. I cannot say enough positive things about it! If you would like to know more about my experience with homebirthing or have questions, don't hesitate to email me! I will try to be as helpful as possible.
Destiny Nicole -submitted by Rachael Born March 25 1998 Due March 27 1998 I was 16 years old and living with my parents her father was off somewhere else. I wake up at 4am on the 24th of March with a bad backache so I take some tylenol and go back to sleep on the couch. The back pain went on all day long I thought I had pulled a muscle. Dinner time comes around and I start having contractions so we skip dinner and head to the hospital. I get there at 7:30pm, they get me set in a room and I'm 4cm so they break my water. I didn't want meds I wanted to do it natural. I did however take a shot of something at 6cm and was goofy hungry and ready to go home. By the time I'm 8cm they say last call for a epidural and finally the nurse and mom talked me into it. As soon as I get the epidural they check me again and I'm a 10! The doctor comes running in joking about having missed the birth and was quickly trying to set everything up. I start pushing at 12:15am and at 12:37am Destiny was born very blue and not breathing with a apgar of 4 they rush her off with out telling me if I had a boy or girl or what was going on. I finally got to see my baby girl at 4am. Destiny came into the world weighing 5lbs 13oz and 18 inches long. Only 5 hours of labor!
Hannah Marie's -submitted by Rachael Born August 30 2001 Due September 7 2001 Hannah started out as trouble. At 30 weeks I was in the hospital on bedrest for preterm labor and was on bedrest until 36 weeks. After 36 weeks she decided she liked it in my tummy! My OB decided to induce on August 30. I went in at 5am! I was dialted to a 3 and already in labor. They hooked me up the the pitocin and got me my epidural. My epidural didn't take right I was only half numb! So they up'd the epi some more and then up'd it again! It didn't help. Finally they adjusted it a bit and up'd it some more and I was good to go! At 2pm I was a 10 and ready to push. After only pushing for a few minutes the doctor said your muscles aren't working right because of the epidural. He said we need to use the vaccum. So they get it all hooked up and the next contraction Hannah was born! Pink, screaming and giving my OB the what for. Hannah weighed in at 6lbs 3ozs and was 17 inches long. Only 6 hours of labor!
Chord -submitted by Jody I went to the doctor's for a prenatal appointment and they said my blood pressure was still high(I had preclamsia) and that they wanted to induce me. So they told me to go home and get ready and be at the hospital at 6 pm. So I came home called hubby(he was at work)and told him that they were going to induce me. So he came home early and did then we went to the hospital. This was March 21 by the way. They started to induce me with the gel. But by the next day(March 22) I sitll haven't diolated any so then they put this 1/2 pill looking thing in my cervex and slowly I began diolating. March 23 they started the potocine(sorry sp?)I was going to try and go without any med's or epideral's but since my blood pressure was high from the preclamsia and when I was younger I had epilipse the doc's talked me into getting the epideral(because high blood pressure can make you have seziures espiecally if you have a past history of epilipse.) but I ended up having two because the first one only numbed half of me. Late on the 23 I started pushing for what seem like forever but nothing was happening and they told me well we can either keep trying or do a c-section and by then I was so tired that I said go ahead with the c-section and by 12:14 am on the twenty-fourth of March I had Chord at a whoppping ten pound's seven ounces and twenty-three inches long.
Jarod -submitted by Jody I was going to try for a vbac but they informed me that this baby was looking big too(they kept an eye on me since I had one big baby)and they said you might want to do the c-section. So I opted for a planned c-section. I could have choosen the second, third or fourth of Jan for the date. I choose the third because that was also my hubby's b-day. So at 5:30am we were admitted to the hospital. Almost as soon as we got there I started feeling stronger contractions but they weren't bad. They put me on a monitor and asked me how long I have been having these contractions. I told them since I came in LOL(I think it was me being nervous that made me have the contractions lol) Then we went into the OR and at 7:14am I had Jarod. He was big but not like his older brother at eight pound tweleve ounces and twenty-one inches long.
Richard "Brent" -submitted by Nicole On Tuesday, September 5th 2000 I had my OBGYN appointment since I was 33 weeks. It was a normal check up and everything "looked" great. After Rick and I left my doctor's appointment we got the baby crib. We also had my last child birth class that evening. Everyone was bringing a potluck with it being the last class. Rick and I went and my back started bothering me. I remember my child birth instructor Katie Dixon joking saying, "If you were to go in labor at least you are already at the hospital." We all laughed it off and went on. Later on after we got home from the child birth class Rick & I decided to put the crib together. We were up until midnight doing so which is when I had my very first contraction. I didn't think anything of it and blew it off as a braxtion hick contraction. So we went ahead to bed. I never imagined how my night was begininng... At 4:30a Rick had got up to go to the bathroom and when he got back in bed I was starting to doze back to sleep when I felt a gush of water. I got up and ran to the bathroom. I remember sitting on the toliet and it felt like it was forever. Then Rick asked me if everything was okay because I had been in there without saying anything for awhile (few minutes). Then I said the famous words "It's time." He jumped up and ran into the bathroom and I told him to get me the cordless phone. I called my mom first. I told her what was happening and she told me to call the doctor. So I called my doctor's office and they paged him. They also told me to go ahead to call the hospital and let them know I was coming in. So I did so. The nurse on the phone at the hospital was telling me to take a shower and it would be awhile before I would have my baby. Then my other line rang and it was my doctor. He told me not to shower and to get to the hospital since I was only 33 weeks. Everything happened so quickly. I got to the hospital and they already had a room set for me. After getting my IV I asked if Katie Dixon (my child birth instructor) was there yet. Luckily, she had just got there. We joked a bit about how I ate too much the night before and that is what put me into labor. After awhile I remember getting my epiderual and shortly after that I was told to push. Richard Brent Horton Jr was born on September 6th 2000 at 10:15a at 33 1/2 weeks premature weighing in at 4 pounds 7 ounces and 17 3/4 inches long. I didn't get to hold him after he was born because he would cry I knew something was wrong. They rushed him to the NICU where I would see him 3 hours later. The first time I got to see my little baby boy was 3 hours later in the NICU. He had wires all over him and IV. He was so tiny. It was then that I realized what all that was happening. I had never heard of premature babies but now I had one and that was scary. Brent stayed in the NICU until he was 9 days old. He had lost some weight going all the way down to 3 pounds 9 ounces and the day he was discharged he was 4 pounds 9 ounces (2 ounces more then when he was born). He had to see several doctors and had some health issues after being discharged but nothing that we couldn't over come...

And it sucked but it is all worth it now!!!
Colin Michael -submitted by Jennifer D For the last month of my pregnancy I chose to be at home on bedrest. I worked as a special education teacher for behavior disordered high school students. A few of my students were often physicaly aggresive and one was threatening to hurt the baby, so I got my OB to put me on bedrest. My blood pressure was high and we thought it was due to stress at work. The highest it got was 160/100 and we were all worried about my health and the health of our son. At 38 weeks, my OB decided to induce. She was tried of watching my blood pressure go sky high when ever I sat or stood up. She concluded the baby was putting too much pressure on my artery, since my bp was normal when laying down. I was sent to the hospital on April 14, 2003 at 6 p.m. The maternity ward was packed so the pitocin drip was still not started when my OB came to break my water at 6:30. She broke my water and soon after the pitocin was started, but the contractions did not really start until 9 p.m. At 11 p.m. I asked for an epidural while my husband lay snoring on the couch and was not being a really good labor coach. I was able to get sleep on and off during the night, which was good. I wasn't fully dilated until noon on April 15th. I pushed for two hours with no progress when my OB finally told me I had two choices. The baby's heart rate was dropping and they needed to get him out. I could opt for a forceps delivery, or go in for an emergency C-section. I opted to try the forceps first. It took a couple of contractions, but at 2:20 our first son was born. We named him Colin Michael, which mean "young one"(Colin) "Who is like God"(Michael).

Jamie Lynn -submitted by Tanya I went to the Doctor on July 15, 2003, (also my due date) and I was 3-4 cm dilated and 70% thinned out. He scraped my membranes at 4:30 and we went home. We went out to eat around 5:30 and the contractions started to really bother me. (having them all day) We were at home around 6:30 and decided to call the MIL and take the girls over there just incase. We got there around 8:00 and after that we went to Target to pick up some last minute things and while we were in Target, I had two really hard contractions so I called my Mom and let her know what was going on so she decided she would come over (she lives 1 1/2 hours away) While we were waiting for my Mom we started to time the contractions and they were 7-5 mins apart. My Mom got to the house around 10:40 and by that time the contractions were about 3 mins apart. Geoff called the Hospital and they said to come in so we headed to the hospital and on the way my contractions were now 1-2 minutes apart and really hurting. We got to the Hospital around 11:30 and I was at 6 cm. The Dr. came in and he decided to break my water and that made my contractions really hard. I lost track of time because I was in so much pain but it seems like right when he broke my water, I was ready to push. I told the nurse I needed to push and she went to check me and the baby was already coming out. I gave a couple little pushes but I was holding back because it hurt so bad but I knew I had to get through the pain so I gave one really long hard push and she was out. I did it with no pain meds!!! I can't believe I got through it. :o) Jamie was born at 1:46 am. Jamie was 8 pounds 8 ounces and 21 inches long. Well, the story does not stop there. I started to lose a lot of blood and the DR started pushing on my stomach and doing other things to get my uterus to contract down. That hurt more than the labor and delivery. He was doing that for about 45 minutes and put 30-35 stitches in to stop the bleeding but that didn't work so I had to go into surgery. I also started going into shock before the surgery from all the blood I lost. When I was in recovery, the DR. came and told me I might need to have another surgery to remove my uterus because it does not want to contract down and that he also added another IV incase I need a blood transfusion. I was put on pitocin to get my uterus to contract down and that seemed to help but no one would answer me when I would ask if I needed more surgery or more blood so I was getting really nervous and upset. I didn't find out that I didn't need to until right before I left the hospital. The Dr. put me on iron pills because my blood is low. My hemoglobin was at seven. I had to take the iron pills and prenatal pills until I saw him at my six week exam. I was really pale white and super tired. I do feel really good for all I went through. We got to go home on July 18 (with a lot of begging) and things are going really good now. The Hospital did a hearing test on Jamie and she passed so we are really excited.
