About the MOMS ClubTM of Burtonsville The MOMS (MOMS Offering Moms Support) Club is a nonprofit international organization that provides support to mothers who have chosen to stay home to raise their children. Our goals include providing moral support, supplying a forum for topics of interest to women, giving mothers more of a voice in the community, and performing service projects. Below is information on activities/events/services the Club offers: Club Social - Our chapter holds its monthly business meeting on the second Thursday of every month at 10:30 a.m. Board Meeting - Board members meet monthly to prepare the next month's calendar as well as discuss Club issues/concerns. Planned Events - Three to four events planned a week, some to name a few...park day, fire department tour, nursing home visits, visiting museums, apple picking, brunch bunch, dentist tour. Also, a weekly RSVP e-mail is sent to give everyone a general idea of who to look for at events. Roster - A complete list of club member names and contact information as well as children's names and birthdates. Yahoo! Groups - E-mail address is set up for entire list of club members to communicate. Sunshine Committee - Having a baby or need to be on bed rest? Meals are arranged to be delivered to your home once you have the new bundle(s) of joy or any special circumstances. Newsletter - A monthly note from the President, recommendations, advice column, business advertisements, monthly calendar of events and much more helpful/exciting information. Playgroups - Children of the same age are assigned a playgroup to become better acquainted. Mom's Night Out - A monthly relaxing, enjoyable night. Crafts - Children create a themed craft and they are normally sent overseas or handed out at the nursing home. Party - Parties are held at least twice a year (e.g., spring party, family picnic) as well as baby showers. Service Projects - Visit a local nursing home, collect unused/expired coupons to be sent to a Navy base in Japan, Collect school supplies for Wing For Joy Inc. and make lunches for The Elizabeth House to name a few. Annual Fundraisers - A summer yard sale is held every year and all vendor fees and auction monies are donated to a local charity. Cooking Club A mom sets up a menu and buys all the groceries so we can prepare a meal at her house for our family. We then divide the cost of the groceries between the moms who attended, generally between $15-$20 per family. We cook together while the kids play together. Walking Club A great way to get out and lose a few pounds, normally to a local park. Push your child around the park in their stroller or let them ride a scooter/bike. They enjoy the view while you burn off some calories. Brunch Bunch Prepare a small dish to share with the rest of us. Moms socialize with the children play. Family Night A night where all our families can get together at a local restaurant and enjoy a meal. Usually held when the restaurant is hosting kids night. Some locations offer clowns or crafts while others offer free kids meals. New Member Tea A time to gather all the new members and introduce them to each other and the board. Also a perfect time to ask questions and address any of your concerns. |
