| . June, 2001 - Cory had his last four shunt surgeries, a stroke due to hemorrhaging and blood clots and had his shunt removed. He has done good without the shunt although there is a lot of brain damage and scar tissue which is resulting in quite a bit of cognitive loss. Social conversations are minimal at best and we are having a lot of behavioral challenges. Cory does have a new fluid filled space which showed up on his MRI in January of this year. October 29, 2003 To bring everyone up to date since about 2 years ago. He is 12 now and is going through puberty. He is finally toilet trained which is a milestone and we thank his puberty onset for that at least. I know he misses Patrick a lot He continues in his TMI school program at his school (Keith Bovenschen) and kind of goes up and down progress wise. He will be Superman for Halloween this year. December 2006 2006 was a hell of a year for us. Cory & I (and the rest of the family) lost his grandmother/my mom January 22nd on the day after Patrick's birthday and Patrick gained his grandmother in heaven. She took a fall at the foster care home she had just moved into and within hours she started losing consciousness and her blood pressure started dropping. The docs said that she could've been bleeding internally. She took her last breath just before 7am the morning after Patrick's birthday. I truly believe she waited until that morning so that Patrick would be there to greet her as he was a little busy celebrating his birthday in heaven on the 21st. She had tears in her eyes before she took her last breath so I know she saw Patrick waiting for her. We're now living in my mom's old condo and Cory now attends Peters school. He is doing well adjusting and is growing quite tall (about 2 1/2 inches shorter than me. He continues to get his IVIG infusions once a month and it has helped him stay healthier. I'm just trying to cope with my Rheumatoid Arthritis and continue to work still at Meijer. It's a job. Well, I'll try to update in the new year. |
