The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.

I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.

We must view young people
not as empty bottles to be filled, but as candles to be lit.

A Little Backstory

We began homeschooling our children 4 years ago. It is not something I could ever have imagined us even considering, but now I wouldn't want our life any other way.

It  was a thrill to assist our children to take their first steps and to watch their enthusiasm as they identified the colorful magnetic letters on the refrigerator. We should have seen the possiblities then.

The privilege of being at home with my children was quickly forgotten when they were finally all in school and I enjoyed my quiet days knowing that someone else was taking care of their education. Then the time  would come to pick them up from school.. We would rush home, rush to snack, rush to do homework (through the tears), rush to have dinner ready, and then rush them to bed, only to begin the next morning the same way. The rushing only intensifying if there were events after school. We were so busy getting to the next scheduled event that I never had time to teach them  about life or to better learn who they were and were becoming.

After 3 years of that life, God revealed a vastly different path for us; one that is less travelled. We are enjoying every step of the journey.
The year is going rather well, particularly when compared with past years at the same point. The girls are really striving to do  their best in their work this year.
It is such a joy to see them taking pride in their work.

Taylor is doing very well in math and piano. She is currently reading a series of books called Royal Diaries. They are historical fiction and she is learning a lot through them.

Hailey is continuing to work on her art. Her designs are quickly filling up a notebook. She recently finished reading Anne of Green Gables and it now tops her list of favorite books.

Emma is doing great in her writing assignments. Her sense of humor really comes through in her writing. She recently won 1st place in her division in a flute competition.

HAPPENINGS
I believe that school makes complete fools of our young men, because they see and hear nothing of ordinary life there.
Petronius (Satyricon)
I learned most, not from those who taught me but from those who talked with me.
St. Augustine
I suppose it is because nearly all children go to school nowadays, and have things arranged for them, that they seem so forlornly unable to produce their own ideas.
Agatha Christie
It is nothing short of a miracle that the modern methods of instruction
have not yet entirely strangled the holy curiosity of inquiry; for this delicate little plant, aside from stimulation, stands mainly in need of freedom; without this it goes to wrack and ruin without fail.
