dedicated to my grandfather: Roy Thomas Wilkins
The above picture is the only picture that I have of my grandfather. The picture was taken in Mississippi; where my grandfather lived. I'm sitting on my grandfather's lap and my brother, Daniel, is sitting on my father's lap, Roy David. My father was named after his dad Roy Thomas and later when my brother was born he too was named after both of them with the name of Roy Daniel.
I didn't know my grandfather that well but to this day I miss him and talk to him often. He also sent me birthday cards and I would talk to him on the phone when my parents would call him. I only have one birthday card and one Christmas card that he sent to me and they are one of my most treasured things in this world.
My grandfather died when I was in Junior High school and I was unable to attend the funeral because is was so far away and I would have missed to many days of school. But my mom and dad brought me back a flower from one of the wreaths and it was a white carnation; which is why the graphics on this page are of carnations. To this day I still have that carnation pressed into an album.
With all of that being said I want to send this message out to him and everyone that comes here to read this page. GrandPa, I love you very much and miss you too. You are very special to me and I know we talk often in my dreams and in my mind and I wish you were here today so I could tell you all this face to face. I love you, Love...Becky
