The Day Arrives |
|
|
|
The Big Day was finally upon us. I had not slept a wink, and Val was supposed to get up at 7 to start getting ready. We both got out of bed finally at 8:30 and I got us appointments at Linda Tam Studios if we came over right away. I threw my clothes on in under 5 minutes and was out the door walking briskly over to 5th & E. 54th. Val was to follow in a cab. I arrived and was going to have my hair done. BOY do the ladies here know how to flatter you to get big tips. As I was getting my hair done the lady said I reminded her a lot of Catherine Zeta-Jones. I WISH. She even kept holding up this picture, "See your face is shaped the same" When we left I told them I would tell Michael they said hello LOL. Val arrived a little later for her manicure and was on her way back to the room by 9:45, she hopped a cab, and when she returned to the room, she found out that our shower only put out SCALDING hot water, so she opted for a bath after getting a pretty bad burn to her foot.
Now at this point I am still under the dryer waiting to get my hair combed out. Lo and behold, I leave the studios at 10:45. And I have no makeup and am not dressed to go to the studio. I wound up running the whole way back and returned back at the room at 10:55. We are supposed to be meeting Vincent at 11:00. Man was this not the morning we planned. AND we had not eaten anything LOL. I got dressed quickly, and of course in the process got foundation on my sweater smack dab in the middle of my cleavage. I get it off best I can, and say forget it, they will have to take me with the stain on my shirt. We run down to get a cab and are on our way. |

The Tour |

Our cab pulled up to ABC studios, we could see a very little reception area, with 2 legs visible sitting on a couch in the vestibule. **PITTER PATTER** We approached the building, and Vincent looked up and saw us entering the door. For those who have met him, you know how hard it is to not just take him all in at once. And I was supposed to talk. I must have stared for a little bit taking in each feature. I remember one of my first thoughts was DAMN no jeans!! LOL In retrospect, I guess they would not have been suitable for a nice restaurant.
The wondrous one was clean shaven, Black Knit long sleeve sweater, that lucious Brown suede jacket, dark beige wool slacks, and black loafers. Yes his hair was ever so silky black with a hint of graceful age. He smelled wonderfully fresh. And though Val didn't get her butt shot, there was a brief line ROFL |

As I entered the building, Vincent said, Are you Valerie, to which I laughed and said no I'm Janet, looking back for Valerie, She was still breathing. Figures he already had our names wrong. He approached us sort of nervously himself, saying he had just arrived and thought we would be nervously waiting for him (I can't believe we actually had the man waiting for us) We then had a sort of awkward moment with him approaching Valerie to attempt to sort of greet her with a hug, to which she shook his hand. So NOW am I supposed to shake his hand or hug? Such quick decisions in life stress us the most, don't they? I went in for the kill with a hug, probably should have given him that obligatory cheek kiss too LOL I then turned to sign Valerie and I in, and we were then given these Visitor Passes to wear. WELL 3 guesses as to where my visitor pass went, and the first 2 don't count. You got it, right smack dab in the middle of my chest. Whew, some things just work out ok. We then walked around the corner to the elevator talking about where we are from, and that the drive from Maryland is not too bad. He was so nice and kept asking us if we were OK, with that voice and those caring eyes. He told us he was not sure if anyone would be in his dressing room. Sometimes day players use the dressing rooms of the actors which are not in for the day. He had not been there for the last week. I was thinking, guess we won't get to see the RaiRai shrine. He asked if we were ready to meet some actors, to which I kidded around and said I most wanted to meet Gordo.
We then approached the entrance door of AMC dressing room area. There was a reception area to the right, where Vincent sort of disappeared. I looked at this gentleman sitting in a chair, and did NOT even recognize him. Vincent comes out with him and says You guys know Bill Christiansen, uh Christian? (Another name faux pas LOL) Thank god Val recognized him as Derek Frye. He was very nice, asking us about where we were from. When I told him Elkton, MD, he said he had his teeth fixed down there. ??? I had no clue and said I wouldn't trust a dentist in my town. He said no no I am just kidding I think it was Elliott City. He mentioned he was familiar with the area cause he got a ticket on I95. He then talked to Val about Houston, telling us one of his first jobs was at the Alley Opera Theatre (which is an outdoor arena). Vincent then asked if we wanted our pics with him. We kinda joked around with him as he turned his baseball cap backwards. Vincent takes a pic with Val's camera, and it says NO DISK SPACE. So I take my camera out and we finally get the pic. Bill then asked if we wanted our pics with Vincent. To which I am sure we gleefully squeeled YES. |
