| Why Green? Our country was dragged kicking and screaming into an immoral war, a war the people didn't support based on a premise (WMD) that the facts didn't support. (Oil is the real justification.) Why hasn't Dubya been impeached? We are the leaders of the pack of westernized nations hell-bent on destroying our world and ourselves along with it. We are eating oil at an alarming rate in our SUVs and super trucks which have replaced more-sensibly-sized cars and trucks, in solo commutes that have morphed into hours-long travels twice daily. We are encasing our homes and our food in oil-based plastics and vinyls, which hold in the tremendous array of chemicals we use to maintain our plastic-controlled environment. Cancer's chemotherapy, once fearsome and rare, is now being advertised as a common, normal, expected occurrence in the lives of relatively young citizens, much like headaches might be expected with the stresses of everyday life. |

| Why Green? Because we can do so much better for ourselves and our children. And we can do better by the rest of the world. We cannot all survive at Americans' current standard of living. At this level the world might possibly support a few billion people, without necessitating fighting over scarce resources. If we accept a lowering of the standard, we may sustain a population of up to eight billion. But the Earth's human population is expected to rise well beyond that in the next half-century, and we are at or very near Peak Oil right now. Why Green? Because we don't have much time to set up a just and equitable future. |
