Fun ‘Sea’ Food Ideas
BEACH JELLIES
Needs overnight refrigeration
You will need:
85g packet of green or blue jelly
crystals, 2 cups of boiling water, 2 tbs. Fine biscuit crumbs, 12 jelly babies,
12 lifesavers or mints with holes in them, 12 paper umbrellas/parasols
· Line a 12-cup patty tin or muffin tin with two layers of paper patty cases or paper muffin cases.
· Combine jelly crystals and water in a jug.
· Stir until all the crystals have dissolved.
· Set aside to cool.
· Pour jelly into paper cases to three-quarters full.
· Refrigerate overnight.
· Sprinkle biscuit crumbs over half of each jelly.
· Lay a jelly baby on the crumb side of case.
· Place a lifesaver or candy with hole on the other half of jelly and put a paper umbrella through the centre.
CINNAMON SEA SNAILS
You will need:
Crescent roll dough or puff pastry, soft butter, cinnamon, and sugar.
· Separate the dough into triangles.
· Have the children spread the butter on one side, sprinkle the cinnamon and the sugar over the butter.
· Start with one end of the triangle and roll into a spiral.
· Bake as directed, let cool and enjoy!
Sandy Cinnamon Toast
· Make sandy cinnamon toast by spreading the bread with butter or soft margarine
· Sprinkle on a mixture of sugar and cinnamon
· Toast in oven or toaster oven
EDIBLE AQUARIUM
You will need:
Softened cream cheese, blue food colouring, Melba toast, crackers, goldfish (fish-shaped) cheese crackers
· Add a couple of drops of blue food colouring to the cream cheese
· Spread the blue cream cheese on to the Melba toast or crackers, put a few goldfish on top.
OCTOPUS BUBBLES
· Pour half a glass of pineapple juice.
· Add club soda to fill the glass.
· Stir and enjoy.
OCTOPUS TREAT
· You will need 2 round crackers (Ritz) per student, peanut butter, Mini M&M's and liquorice.
· Spread peanut butter on one cracker,
· Press 8 liquorice legs into the peanut butter.
· Add the top cracker, spread more peanut butter on top and add your mini M&M's eyes!
SEA STAR CHEEZIES
· The children take a star shaped cookie cutter and make sea stars out of bread slices.
· Spread butter on the sea stars and sprinkle with grated cheese.
· Then toast in the oven, cool and eat.
SINK AND FLOAT SALAD
· Take a baggie that zip locks.
· Put crushed pineapple on the bottom, then jelly, then grated coconut and last mini marshmallows.
HEALTY FRUIT PUNCH
· In a large serving bowl, combine 125ml can orange juice, 425g can fruit salad, the juice of 1 orange and the juice of 1 lemon.
· Stir gently to combine
· Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour.
· Just before serving add 750ml of chilled lemonade.
· Garnish a skewer or fancy party drink stick with fresh fruit (raspberries, blueberries, apples, oranges, strawberries, cantaloupe, etc.
·
Serves around 10.
OCEAN TREAT
· Crush some Graham crackers or favourite cookies and place them in the bottom of a cup
· Add blue or green Jell-O/Jelly.
· Once it starts to set push in gummy sea creatures and allow it to set the rest of the way.
· This makes a sweet to eat ocean life treat!
Tuna Fish Sandwiches
· Mix tuna, mayonnaise, and pickle relish together.
· Students can use a star cookie cutter to cut out ‘starfish’ from the sliced bread.
· Spread tuna mixture on bread, eat and enjoy!
Have a Sea food taste party
· Sample mini shrimp, shrimp toast, tuna salad, clam chowder, fish fingers, seafood salad, etc.
· Vote for your favourite by recording your choice on a class chart.
