James Paul McCartney was born in Liverpool, England on June 18, 1942. His father was a musician and that probably helped with Paul's early interest in music. When Paul was 14 his mom died of cancer but he didn't let that trauma stop him for success. Before the age of 15, he learned to play the guitar. Paul met John Lennon at a summer church picnic in 1957. John was already in a skiffle band called the Quarrymen. Paul joined and he and John became the main songwriters. |

Some years past and the band slowly moved from the Quarrymen to the Beatles. That is when Paul switched to the bass. The Beatles became popular quickly. By 1964, "Beatlemania" had spread to the U.S.A. and soon they were the most popular band in the World!!! |

But by 1968. the band began to have disagreements over the band's musical direction. Paul married Linda Eastman on March 12,1969 and he thought Linda's father would make a great new business manager. Well that made the band even angrier. Also at that time there were nasty rumors that the real Paul had died and the "Paul" now was actually a look alike. Soon after that Paul began to work on a solo album, like the other three members. He got the album, entitled McCartney, ready in early 1970, but didn't released it until April 1970. That was a full month before "Let it Be" was release and in a magazine interview promoting his solo he stated that he was no longer with the Beatles. Today Paul still tours and is still playing his music. He also got remarried and he and his wife just had a baby girl. |
