| Nutty Putty Trip....June 2003 | ||||||||||||||||
| Sometime in June of 2003, Daryn and I took a couple of trips to Nutty Putty. One for fun, the other to take another kid there for the first time. Anyone who likes caving and lives in Utah has been to or atleast heard of Nutty Putty. Located in the middle of the desert, this cave offers challenges to all that go, no matter how experienced. The cave itself is composed of two main passages, the maze and the big slide area. It is famous for the birth canal, a small wormhole passage that people often get stuck in due to its thin nature. I have been through it, and it is a challenge. Nutty Putty is often filled with people, but if you go at the right times of the year, you will find yourself only having the company of a dozen people or so. I suggest a winter visit, as the cave is always hot inside and this makes coming out much more interesting. The cave has little aesthetic interests, so little care needs to be used to avoid destroying speliotherms. It is not recommended to take small children or people with medical problems into the cave as it is very strenous. If you would like directions, please contact us. This is one cave everyone can and should know about. Warning: Do not use the ropes in Nutty Putty to negotiate the drops. These ropes are old and worn out, and could break at any moment. The drops can be free climbed. |

| Here is a good shot of Daryn crawling through a section in Nutty Putty. Most of the cave can be stood up in, however, some areas require a bit of crawling. | ||||||||||||||||

| Here is a shot of Daryn lounging at the top of a small wormhole/tunnel. This climb proves to be difficult to all who try, as years of people climbing it have left few handholds and a lot of smooth rock to slide down on. The cave proceeds in the direction of Daryn's light. | ||||||||||||||||

| Here I am crawling through a section of the maze. On this trip, Daryn and I limited ourselves to a section of the maze so we could further explore its side passages. Most of the cave has been explored, but some smaller passages are left relatively untouched by visitors due to the doubt of their destination. On this trip we found nothing. | ||||||||||||||||
