Mousehole Cave Trip.....June 2003
During the summer of 2003, we visited Mousehole Cave a total of 4 or 5 times.  It is not a hard hike to the cave, however, the cave offers up many challenges to anyone who attempts to explore it.  The cave itself does not contain many feet of passage, but does contain some vertical challenges.  Mousehole is not a highly decorated cave either, but it does remain relatively untouched as its location is hard to find for the uninformed.  If you know where this cave is an plan to explore it, only go with someone who knows its makeup and exercise caution while using the proper equipment.  On this trip, we started out by going to a mine that used to be the home of a famous fugitive here in Utah.  Several years ago, I was hiking up a canyon and came across this mine.  Upon entering it, a man dressed oddly came chasing me with broom telling me to get out of his house.  This was in the year 2000.  I was freaked out by the guy and his female companion, who told me about how we in the valley needed to be polygamists and so on.  Either way, he turned up later on the new, being the man who kidnapped Elizabeth Smart.  After visiting his old home/mine, we continued to mousehole, where the exploring began.
Here's a picture of Jeff crawling in the mine.  He is exiting the area where a few small passages break off.  I am not certain what was mined there, but the mine is extremely small and has only one place where you can stand upright.
Here I am crawling into a small passage under the rockface.  We found small candles in this section, as this cave is often slept in by hikers.
Here is the view looking out from the mine.  The mine goes in about 100 feet total, and has about 150 feet of passage.
