A Recent Trip...June 14, 2003
First, let me apologize for the lack of pictures on this website.  I would ask that everyone use a little imagination for this one.

On the 13th of June, Daryn gave me a call asking when our next adventure would be.  It had been about a week and both him and I needed some good caving.  I mentioned going out the next morning at about 6:00 AM, our normal meeting time.  We hoped to beat the heat and every other problem that comes with visiting the mountains on a Saturday Afternoon.  We had dabbled on a location about 8 miles north of my house.  Later that evening, I called Daryn to call it off.  I was exhausted from a busy day, so we decided, crazily enough, to go at noon on Saturday.

By noon, the temp. had already reached 90 or so, and our decision on our adventure seemed anything but smart.  We changed our plans at last minute, and went to Battle Creek Canyon in Pleasant Grove.  Our goal was to find caves, but more to just have fun.  We knew that there was a big waterfall up the canyon, so we got excited about the cold water hitting us on the head. I had hiked to the falls twice before, but never before that.  We hiked to the falls, got our heads wet, and continued up the trail.  So far we only saw the one little cave off to the left of the trail, which is just a glorified hole.  We hiked up the trail to a point where a small stream intersected it.  The stream was in a narrow canyon, with no trail.  This seemed unexplored enough for us, so we went up.  It was a pain to crawl through this narrow canyon of 5 or six feet mainly because it was so green and lush that we had to crawl over the thorns and weeds.  After Daryn practically died from seeing a snake(non-poisonous), we continued a little farther.  The canyon kept getting wierder.  First, we found a wall of wood.  This wasn't just a wood pile, but an actual wall of wood, where sticks had been woven together to make a wall about 8 feet high.  It was in the middle of the stream, which was small to begin with.  After that, we kept hiking, through the inch or two of water in the stream, to a point where found a strange looking log.  Daryn crawled down to it, noticing that there were deep scratch marks all over it.  We exited the canyon shortly thereafter due to it getting more difficult to hike through.  We met back up with the main trail, and that was when the real fun began.

Daryn and I, went to the stream to get some water for our nearly empty bottles.  We both put our heads in the water and got cold rather quickly.  It felt good, so we decided to follow the stream to see if we could find any caves along it.  We tried to walk on rocks, but what we thought were moss covered rocks, turned out to be just moss.  In a few minutes, we were up to our knees in water.  At this point, we didn't even try to stay out of the water.  As we continued down the canyon, we came across a small waterfall.  The fall was about ten feet long, with a gradual slanting rock under the fall.  At the bottom, a large pool of water that appeared to be deep and free of rocks awaited us.  Daryn flung off the backpack and asked me to hold it for a second.  Before I knew it, Daryn was sliding feet first down the waterfall and landing in the pool below with a splash.  Laughing, he got up and urged me to do the same.  What pursued after this was two guys sliding down every waterfall possible.  The ones we couldn't slide down, we put our heads in.  Either way, it was a fun end to a long hike.
