Michelle Branch
What was your big break?
Well, my "big break" was when I met my manager by accident! He was on vacation in my hometown, Sedona, Arizona and I gave him a demo tape. That was a year and a half ago.
Was your family supportive of you career decision?
Definitely!! I think I have the most supportive family! My parents agreed a couple years back to let me be home-schooled so I could focus on my music and have more time to be creative. Without that I don't know how I would have recorded and gotten this far in such a short period of time!
What did it mean to you to have the opportunity to open for singers like Hanson, Diana Krall and the "Girls Room" tour? Was it at all overwhelming?
It wasn't overwhelming but VERY exciting. It was great seeing how real tours worked without being involved in them or putting them on yourself so that it was enough to be stressed out!! haha. It was very inspiring. I learned something from each person I played with. Actually right now I'm getting ready to open two HUGE festivals here in Arizona. One is the Jackson Browne concert and another is B.B. King!! I'm looking forward to it. And as you see the artists I open for are all very different from each other so it's just really cool!
Do you prefer to preform in front of large audiences or smaller, more intimate ones?
You know, It's just nice to have an audience whether it's one person or 1,000! Although I've been playing such small crowds the last couple of years that now I'm really excited to get out there and play for a larger crowd. There is a different energy with both and I really don't have a favorite :)
What's the inspiration to writing your own lyrics?
I've always written poetry. It wasn't a decision I made, it just sorta happened I guess!
What has been the most rewarding thing from this whole experience?
I do have to say that it's when I get e-mails from people who say that I've inspired them to follow their dreams. That's when I feel the most rewarded.
What is the down side to being a professional singer?
Nothing so far. Everything has it's good and bad points and singing (music) is my life! The good outweighs the bad by far!
You're only seventeen and you've already recorded your first album, performed in front of thousands and on top of that you still attend highschool. How do you keep everything balanced?
Actually I'm home-schooled so it does make it a bit easier. Sometimes I do feel totally overwhelmed but then I think of why I'm doing this and it's worth it. I'm lucky to be this busy really!!
What are your future career goals?
Definitely to continue with my music. If I don't make a career as a performer I'd still have to be involved in some way. Maybe on the business end, or in the studio or as a writer. As long as I'm happy and with music I'm sure I always will be because that's who I am!
Do you maintain your official site? What can we expect to find on it? My official site is not maintained by me, however my webmistress and I work very closely on it's contents. The internet is a very powerful tool. You can find message boards, chat rooms, latest news, pictures, audio, video, you can even order my CD through mail order (by printing the order form) and VERY soon there will be exciting news posted up there!
Where can my readers buy a copy of your debut cd Broken Bracelet?
Well as of right now you can find it in a couple of stores throughout Arizona (look in merchandise section of my webpage for complete listing) or through mail order at my site :)
How can my readers get an autographed photo of you?
Well, they can send a note with their name etc... and an autograph request
to:I'm With The Band
P.O. Box 20425
Sedona, AZ 86341
or when they order my CD they can put in a little note to ask me to sign it and I will :)
Thank you for taking time out of your extemely busy schedule. We wish you continued success with you career and I know this won't be the last we hear of you.
